What kind of pine pellets? Also, you just clean it out monthly? No cleaning up in between? Curious because we have sand in our coop and it’s a daily thing😩
Hi Patricia! We normally use pine pellets we buy from either Tractor Supply or a local feed store here in northern California. Even with 20 chickens we only have to clean the coop once a month. I would imagine sand would be difficult to maintain?
You need to explore the deep litter method. It can go a very long time and does not build up bad odors. Here's a couple very good articles about the benefits. Carolina Coops also has several videos on their TH-cam channel...there are lots of other YT videos on the topic also...just search it. Do not mix diatomaceous earth in with your deep litter...it interferes with the beneficial bugs and microbes that make the system really work. Imo a good bedding blend is using industrial hemp and pine shavings mixed with something like Flock Fresh or Sweet PDZ or similar with Zeolite in it...do some research... www.plamondon.com/wp/deep-litter-chicken-coops/ carolinacoops.com/chicken-coops/standard-features/deep-litter-beds/
@@rev5812 They are still in the same coop, and attrition has reduced the flock to 18. While the building is old and a bit shabby, it is about 6'x14', with an attached (and secure) 16'x18' outdoor run. Plenty of space for the hens.
Save your time for other stuff I’m the farm and do Deep Litter Method and only clean once every year or 2. Also, you only need 1 nest box for every 3-4 hens, you have way too many nest boxes.
Thank you so much for being detailed and getting straight to the point.
nice coop.
Very helpful. You might consider wearing respirators - especially your niece. Not the best to inhale the fine dust.
Helpful video. Thanks a lot ❤️
Very helpful and good info. Thanks!!
Ty for the video!❤️
Hey. How often should the chicken coop be cleaned?

We have the same in our coop. Any tips on flies?
Do Deep Litter Method and only clean once a year.
What are the dimensions of the coop? I have 24 laying hens and am looking to upgrade their coop. Curious to know how much space they will need.
Plz my 🏡home
did u end up upgrading their coop? if yes what was the dimension ?
you will need a 6 foot wide 10 foot long coop for that.

Why it was no sanitized here?
why the pine pellets? what's the benefit compared to just using the pine shavings?
There are benefits to both pellets and shavings, but we prefer pellets because they’re cleaner and don’t get tossed about like shavings.
Plz my home

Do me a favor all.... Wear a mask. I just started with chickens... It's a lot of dust for your nose and lungs!
