      @@Genarate-charlie because unlike suicide squad Batman actually fights ras al ghul to the very end instead of going out like a b*tch like he does in suicide squad and that is supposed to be Arkham Batman, the same Arkham Batman that bodied the entire suicide squad all by himself in assault on Arkham which is a Batman Arkham movie that wasn't even about Batman

    I just loved the stealth in this series. It doesn’t feel repetitive and actually forces you to think and strategize even if you already knew how to counter certain enemies. Especially the different locations make it the most varied because not all areas will have vents in good locations or even at all, same with perches. I loved the combat, the cosmetics, the environment, the detective mode, and the traveling with dive glide, grapple boost, and batmobile. But, imo, nothing will top the stealth in these games and I don’t think a game can match it.

    I love how well all the villains were written. Not just Joker. I love thug Penguin. The morally gray Mr. freeze. The obsessive melomaniac Riddler. Poison Ivy sacrificing herself to save the plants of Gotham was a great moment.

      Freeze only caring about his wife is soo good. Originally done by the cartoon i believe, then city before it made its way to the comics. Likewise the ice grenade started in City against Clayface was later used in the cartoon The Batman and then comics.

    It's the same kind of problem with the Arkham games that the Dark Knight Trilogy had with movies if you ask me: coast riding. TDK Trilogy with a dark, gritty, realistic take on Super Heroes was a huge hit. So future hero movies felt an obsessive NEED to copy Batman. Unfortunate for me. I personally prefer each hero and movie did their own thing with the character. Not every hero has to be Batman. Although this is also coming from a guy who LOVES campy movies like Mystery Man or the entirety of the Tim Burton/Joel Shumacher Batman movies.
    But it's a similar problem with the games I've noticed. Not so much in dark gritty tones but in the sense that other games try to copy what Arkham did in design, combat style, and characters. When instead they should've been very much so trying to be their own entity. I get that success can't help but breed copy cats in some fashion or another, but games really should try to do their own thing with their own IP's instead of piggy-backing off of Batman. That's only going to work so many times.

    • @DatPRGuy2017
      @DatPRGuy2017 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah in the early to mid 2010s so many games tried to mimic the Arkham combat. Some did it better than others but one common issue with most of these copycats was that the finishers/animations weren't as varied as Arkham or they'd have clumsily and jankier mechanics plus they inherited the Arkham problem where most of the boss fights suck

  • @ankuriboh
    @ankuriboh 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    One of the greatest things the Arkham games did was presenting iconic versions of the characters, perfectly capturing what made them intriguing in comics and matching great designs, voice acting, and characterizations. Even characters with less screen time like Two-Face still stole the show.
    There are two exceptions. First is Hush. Criminally underused and his story in Knight was basically an afterthought. Second is Bane. They got him right in Origins, but there was nothing of the comic book Bane in Asylum or City.
    I happen to own the novelization of Knightfall. It cut out a lot (Scarecrow’s alliance with Joker was cut out, for example), but Bane is presented as a serious threat who could be considered Batman’s arch nemesis. I loved that book as a kid and even today I don’t like Bane in Asylum or City.

    No other game has given me the sense of flow and rhythm in combat like Arkham does. It still feels amazing to this day getting a perfect free flow combat, no other series has combat quite like it to me, also the predator mode is top notch! My other introduction to batman was lego batman so I had two opposite tones of batman to introduce me more so it was perfect

    I loved all of these games, but I have only one thing that I wish we would've gotten. I wish there was a game that had an active Gotham with civilians and cars on the street. For example, if you swoop down and stop a mugging, the civilians get terrified and run away, but you get "Hero points" but if you use the Batmobile, crash into cars and buildings, etc you would get "Villain points"
    I know that would be very difficult to create and balance, but that's the one thing I would've hoped for.

    Combat in the Batman: Arkham series of video games is renowned for its fluidity, depth, and strategic engagement, setting a high standard in the action-adventure genre. Developed primarily by Rocksteady Studios, with subsequent contributions from Warner Bros. Games Montréal, the combat mechanics evolved significantly across the series' installments: from "Batman: Arkham Asylum" (2009) to "Batman: Arkham Knight" (2015). Each game built upon its predecessor, refining and expanding the combat system to provide players with increasingly satisfying and immersive experiences.
    At the core of Arkham's combat is the FreeFlow system, which emphasizes rhythmic, combo-based gameplay. This system allows players to seamlessly chain together attacks, counters, dodges, and gadgets, creating a visually stunning and dynamic ballet of martial prowess. Batman moves with precision and grace, effortlessly dispatching waves of enemies with a blend of martial arts, gadgets, and environmental takedowns. The animations are smooth and responsive, giving players a sense of being in full control of the Dark Knight's formidable abilities.
    One of the key elements that sets Arkham combat apart is its accessibility combined with depth. While the controls are relatively simple to grasp - involving primarily attack, counter, dodge, and gadget buttons - mastering the intricacies of timing, enemy patterns, and environmental interactions requires skill and practice. This balance ensures that both newcomers and seasoned gamers can enjoy the combat, while offering layers of complexity for those who seek to perfect their technique.
    Each installment in the series introduced new mechanics and refinements to keep the combat fresh and challenging. "Arkham Asylum" introduced players to the basics of FreeFlow combat, setting the foundation with a focus on timing and rhythm. "Arkham City" expanded the playable environment and added more enemy types, requiring players to adapt their strategies accordingly. It also introduced gadgets that could be integrated into combat sequences, adding another layer of tactical depth.
    "Arkham Origins," developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal, continued to build on the FreeFlow system while introducing new enemy types and variations on existing mechanics. The game explored Batman's earlier years in his career, providing a different perspective on his abilities and motivations. Despite being a prequel, it maintained the core combat mechanics that fans had come to love while offering its own unique challenges and storytelling elements.
    "Arkham Knight," the final installment in the main series, refined the combat even further with enhancements such as the Dual Play mechanic, allowing players to seamlessly switch between Batman and his allies during combat encounters. This introduced new strategies and gameplay dynamics, further expanding the depth of the combat system. The addition of the Batmobile also influenced combat scenarios, integrating vehicular takedowns and environmental interactions into the mix.
    Beyond the mechanics themselves, Arkham's combat is also praised for its cinematic presentation and attention to detail. Each punch, kick, and counter is animated with precision, accompanied by sound effects that amplify the impact of each blow. Slow-motion effects during critical moments enhance the dramatic tension, making players feel like they are part of an action-packed blockbuster film.
    The enemies in Arkham games are not just cannon fodder but pose unique challenges that require different approaches. From basic thugs armed with melee weapons to heavily armored foes and cunning masterminds like the Joker, each enemy type forces players to adapt their combat style. Learning enemy attack patterns, prioritizing targets, and using gadgets strategically are essential to overcoming tougher adversaries and maintaining high combo scores.
    Moreover, the environmental interactions in Arkham combat add an extra layer of depth and creativity. Players can use their surroundings to gain the upper hand, whether by performing stealth takedowns from gargoyles or using objects in the environment to stun or incapacitate enemies. This encourages players to think tactically and explore their surroundings during combat encounters, blending stealth and action seamlessly.
    The Arkham series also rewards players for mastering combat with progression systems that unlock new abilities, upgrades, and gadgets. As players accumulate experience points through successful combat and exploration, they can invest in enhancements that further empower Batman in battle. These upgrades not only improve combat effectiveness but also encourage players to experiment with different playstyles and strategies.
    In conclusion, combat in the Batman: Arkham games stands as a benchmark in the action-adventure genre, combining accessibility with depth, cinematic flair, and strategic engagement. The FreeFlow system, refined across multiple installments, allows players to embody the role of the Dark Knight like never before, seamlessly blending martial arts mastery with gadget-driven tactics. Whether facing off against hordes of enemies or iconic villains, Arkham's combat offers a thrilling and immersive experience that continues to captivate gamers and define excellence in superhero video gaming.

    I personally think the Arkham series did right by Batman's villains better than just about any adaptation out there. The boss fights themselves might have been a little all over the place in quality, but you at least could look at each villain and say "Yep, that's who it should be" without hesitation. Even if the villain got reinvented, it made sense how and why that was done. By the way, I think you should include Origins Blackgate in the discussion since it was basically a downsized Asylum in 2D, and a straight-up metroidvania at that. There's also a comic mini series between Asylum and City along with a pretty long online comic series. That's a lot of Arkham. Hey Jay, for your next degeneration, talk about the awesomeness of the Lego DC quadrilogy.

    I saw The Dark Knight and Batman Begins on flights to and from France, which led me to watch The Dark Knight Rises when I got back home
    There was an Xbox spring sale going on, and I remembered there existed a few Batman games from a while back
    Come to find out the Rocksteady Arkham Trilogy was on sale for a measly $13!! Asylum, City and Knight with all its DLC for $13!!
    I didn’t like much from France but I thank the hell out of those airlines for providing both Batman films on their screens, cause I wouldn’t like Batman so much without them as a start
    In other words, the films got me hooked, and the games made me a fan, like your third point tells

    People talking shit about Suicide Squad: 1) Batman isn't dead (as per plot leaks). 2) How does he go out like a bitch when there was that awesome Nightmare Bat boss? Dude got turned into swiss cheese and STILL lived long for a while longer after the fact, compared to Flash, Lantern, and Superman, who admittedly had very anti-climactic "deaths" (altgough they also are not really dead, per the leaks). And Wonder Woman, who DID actually die, had a very amazing death scene. And so did Bruce. I mean, do you expect the guy to be fighting back when Harley and the rest of the Squad literally filled him with lead? Could YOU fight back while being full of lead? No. The answer is no. 3) To anyone saying KTJL doesn't respect Arkham Lore, first of all, the Batman Museum exists to state what the lore actually is to begin with, and that KTJL takes place 5 YEARS after Knight. Second of all, if Harley killing Batman disrespects Arkham lore, need I remind you that Harley nearly killed Batman basically BY HERSELF in her Arkham City DLC? If Robin hadn't stepped in to help, or if he had been defeated, Batman would have died a LONG time ago. And third of all, the return of Ivy even fits in nicely, considering she's about 10 in human years, and while the game says Bruce went 5 years of being dead publicly before joining the Justice League, I believe he was probably with them for at least a couple years before Brainiac invaded. Either that or Ivy ages twice as fast since she's basically a humanoid plant. Point is, the only lore that can be brought in to question, thus disrespected, is Assault on Arkham, which killed King Shark, and the Arkham Knight prequel comics, which killed Boomerang. Really, aside from the shady monetization practices (which are WB's fault, not Rocksteady's), and the repetitive mission types (which i also blame WB for, as the monetization would have taken time away from the mission design), I LOVED KTJL, and i will gladly die on the "it's a good game" hill. Is it as good as the other Arkham games? No. But is it as atrocius as people claim? Absolutely not.
