    Jeff, this is Jim Scott in Oregon. I have a confession to make to you. As you know, you guy's built me that 45 pound longbow last year. Between the time that I ordered my bow from you and the time that I actually got it, I had an accident and ended up in the hospital for about a week and then got back home. I was really weak and lost around 30 t0 35 pounds, and it has been a slow recovery. I started shooting your bow soon after that and I was struggling with it at first but then got used to shooting it and can shoot it all day long now. During that first month or two shooting your bow I had an idea, and I ordered one of those cheap bows you are talking about in 50 pounds. The reason I bought that bow was to build myself up faster so that it would be easier to shoot your bow. Well I hate to say this, but in order to back up what you are saying here, that cheap bow actually shoots every bit as good as your bow does. I was blown away after the first few shots with it. Now don't get me wrong, your bow has a lot of special meaning to me and it's the only one I shoot now and hunt with. But what you are telling people here is absolutely true. Those cheap bows are amazing and really shoot darned good. OK Jeff, thats all I had to say. Glad to see you still making video's. Take care buddy and say hello to Ty for me.
    Jim

    Archers!
    Please watch and listen to this post three times and pay very close attention to the shot sequence! This archer Mr.Jeff Phillips has mastered the shot sequence to the point of Ridiculous! Now granted , arrows are spined correctly the incerts are correct the field points are correct the string is correct, however, Phillips is lining up his elbow with the point of his arrow, his anchor point is consistent and his release is straight back! He can literally shoot any bow of any make or quality Phillips is an absolute MASTER archer ! 🏹🦌

    Just bought 2 Black Hunter Longbows last month. I haven't shot a traditional bow since 2006.
    My first 6 arrows at 10 yards were stacked in there like I had been shooting for years. $67. For a set of extra limbs or $97. For a whole bow. Have a few extra laying around, and maybe you can get a friend started shooting. They are fun sticks.

    Another reason you are spot on. Im learning archery, so im learning form, you dont need an expensive bow to learn good form, even though as im doing is take a course, mine hopefully starts September 60 uk for an 8 week course, then if i want i can join the club. But the course is also important because you then get a piece of paper stating youve took a course and can then shoot outside of youre club, say do a 3d range, in uk you need this form to allow that. So yes, get a cheap but good bow, all the ones hes said ive researched and they are fantastic bows for the price. My goal is to compete, thus after my course i will then invest on a bow that is compilation standard. This man is absolutely correct on everything hes saying, so much so hes in my archery list, that is public for anyone to see.

      😅😅 yes and it sucks. We are too strict about keeping ourselves safe. Apart of the reason i got a bow was also house defence because we can't freely have firearms, it's stupid, it's very controlling, and some of it is down to just wanting you're money

      @digitaldogs233 be careful what you say bro you could get raided. Saying that from genuine concern. As someone who could go buy a hunting rifle at 18 years old, take it home and shoot it, legally and without any contact with law enforcement......

      I get you, but crazy thing is i can carry my bow with arrows around and its legal. We don't need a licence too own a bow or cross bow, the "licence" is just so other clubs know you've been trained. But i can go out hunting for rabbits if i wanted to. Our situation on this is confusing and dumb. As for hush hush one of the teachers was a cop lol, and i told him that reason, and he said i don't blame you, but be very careful because even in a house invasion if i shot a guy i would be arrested for some stupid thing.

    Great video Jeff! I couldn't agree more with you. I think the radiused side plate helps to smooth the arrow launch when it's taking power from the limbs rather than bows that have a flat side plate with a 90 degree corner to shoot around. Having both shelf and side plate radiused seems to me to make it more smooth and accurate.
    Keep your videos coming and God bless!

The price of today's American-made recurves have gotten out of reach for many people. I bought my first Howatt Hunter back in 1986 from a pre-internet, mail-order company called Bowhunter's Discount Warehouse for $100, which I thought was outrageous at the time.

    My preferred method of aiming is a 25yd fixed crawl (combination of gap and string walking)... For Hunting (yeah I use string walking to aim in the off season), during deer season at 20 yards I aim for the bottom of the chest, if 30 yards I aim for the top of the shoulder... for a whitetail, and adjust for larger or smaller animals accordingly... puts the stick in the Vitals pretty much every time

    • @donhood267

      That's exactly how I am shooting too. 25 yard point on and just adjust within the animal's body anywhere out to 30 yards.

    Im loving youre content. I'm a bigginer archer own 3 bows but by far my best bow is my SAMICK SAGE its just so user friendly, its light, has the ability to put a plunger on, and sites, but tbh i like to shoot without one, one could say im an instinctive archer even as a learner, because alot of what you say rings true in how i approach archery. Big thumbs up. Ps i live in uk and have had real bad experiences buying from amazon, so i got my Samick from a proper archer retailer who is amazing, i can ring this guy up and just ask for advice, they also have a range in the shop so you can try before you buy, and they will take the effort to set youre bow up, brace hight, proper good strings the lot. I ordered a bow stringer and he emailed me instantly and wrote you got the wrong trype for youre bow, and sent me the proper one even though the proper one was cheaper, and he refunded me the difference. Thats how an archery shop should treat their customers. As he said, its not about the money, its about me knowing youve got the right equipment and bow that suites you.

    My first longbow was a Bear Patriot. It was an excellent bow and I shot it well.
    It was a good range bow for me but cumbersome to hunt with.
    I took a chance on a Black Hunter longbow a few years back and really love it. I got it strictly for hunting. It is quiet, plenty of speed, and light and maneuverable. I also bought a Spider XL which has been a good shooter too. Overall, they are great shooting bows perfectly suited to hunt with. 👍

I do support all local companies, I do have ten other bows all made in USA and high dollar. But it's nice to have a cheaper one to play with when friends are available and or need to lend them one. My buddy has hunted a ton and killed over 20 animals with his, another buddy is a top named shooter owned a bow shop and he has used them for as long as I can remember!

    I like that a lot of experienced shooters are finding the value of these "budget bows", especially for the new shooters and shooters transitioning from compound. I'm in the transition phase right now and I'm starting to get pretty comfy with my Bear 45# recurve inside 20 yds, but I want to try a little heavier longbow and have my eye on getting a BH. For the price, I don't see how I can go wrong, other than I have to convince the wife that I "need" more arrows.

    I like my black hunter longbows!!! If I put a 1/4 inch elevated rest , I get a nice center shot . I don't have to aim left or right to hit the x ring. Seems like some black hunter shelves and sight window there is a bit of a hump that makes your arrow sit outside of center too much when the arrow sits right on the shelf without a elevated rest. In my opinion it’s best to start with a cheap bow.
    To get a custom bow made before you know how you like to shoot and what you want in a bow is a mistake.
    Get up to the poundage you want.
    Figure out weather it’s recurve or long bow.
    How long do you want the bow.
    Do you want to shoot fingers or thumb.
    Then when you know what you want spend the money

    Hey Jeff, I shoot a PSE razorback and my draw is around 30” and I believe it’s stacking weight a lot. I have a hard time finding affordable recurves that work well with long draw lengths. Any suggestions?

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a Sage or Fleetwood anything in a 62” AMO length with optional limb weights would be great! There are lots of really good bows for under $400 some way under but most come with terrible strings so whatever you get be sure to order a good custom string for it!

    Been shooting a compound for about 13 to 14 years and want to get into traditional. I have only held a recurve a couple of times and they don't feel great in my hand. Feel really bulky in the grip. Would you recommend a longbow or recurve for entry level traditional shooting? Also, what poundage? I shoot around 65 to 68 pounds in compounds. Thanks

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sir I would start with a 40# bow for sure with 600 spine arrows, there are lots of great feeling slimmer grip bows you can get cheaper too get started shooting, one on Amazon that’s awesome is the American longbow, they say they’re 62” but really are 60” and you’re going to want to get a good string like a TTT for any of them, also 3 Rivers Archery has some awesome Bodnick bows like the Creed Recurve that are great shooters and affordable.

    I have a 30-1/2” draw and like to pull around 48 -50lbs. What would you suggest from these companies with my long draw length?? That’s the problem that I have always been up against.

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d go with a 45# TBOW ILF rig, they’re 62” and with a TTT string and some Velcro on the back of the limbs they’re quiet and extremely accurate, you’ll hate the loud string they come with and unlike a genuine Hoyt satori you will probably have to tweak the limb alignment screws and possibly shave the rest plate post to get it into the riser hole and maybe even tap it with something to get it inserted into the riser but they do shoot amazing especially for $199 lol I’d suggest watching our ultimate Hoyt Satori setup video when you get it but it’s an exact copy of the Satori plus you can adjust tiller and pounds easily to make it shoot perfect for you , Fred Eichler has some Satori setup videos as well that you can refer to but with your long draw I think it would be by far your best bet!

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  ปีที่แล้ว

      Outside of the TBOW any of the 62” takedowns would be great, if you go with an ILF wood riser they’ve got longbow limbs that make a 64” bow on any 19” risers and they’re even foam core!

    Hi, I just ordered a 60pound hoyt satori which is 58 inches, the bow is still on its way, but I would like to order the strings first. What is the recommended custom bow string length ?

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, you definitely need to order the string from TTT or a genuine Hoyt string for it, the satori riser is actually 3/4” longer than stated and Trevor will know exactly how to build it, just let him know you’re bow length for example a 58” is probably a 17” riser with short limbs, he’ll make the string a touch longer so the brace height will be right, the factory Hoyt strings will work they just don’t come with tied nocks or silencers and any other strings you order for a 58” recurve will be a little too short not letting it get below about a 9” brace height, TTT Strings take the orders through their facebook page, I’m sure there are several other people building custom strings for them but store bought will be too short, I found that out back in 2017 when they first came out and it’s something you have to do for it to be right lol

      Do they ship to other countries?

    • @johnd7215
      @johnd7215 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My Satori is a 21" riser and hoyt shorts that makes a 62" bow on paper. It takes a 60" string to brace at 7 5/8". That's 2" shorter than AMO. Not 4" or 3" shorter like normal. My experience is that it's the risers not the limbs. Whether they be Hoyt or aftermarket limbs it won't matter. All the risers are a tad longer than spec. The Satori string I received with my bow braced correctly but required alot of twists to do so. I bought several of the Satori strings from online sources and they were all over the map in length. It's a good string but not a great string so I moved on. I went to Additive Archery strings and never looked back. They come fully stretched with the minimal amount of twists in them and are far superior to the Satori string in material, workmanship and size. I give these string maybe 4 twists and shot in I am at 7.75" on my rig and it stays there.
