Sonix improved his edge guarding by simply not relying on Homing neutral B off stage he has lost so many stocks in past sets with spargo by trying to cheese with homing attack but instead relied on more consistent up B and Back Air combinations to get the job done 💯

This is like watching a horror movie for the Smash Community. I loved it though. Sonix only dropped 2 GAMES this entire tourney. He was on a mission. Entirely deserved this win and this was a stacked tourney too. If he beat Light that would've been the ultimate victory for him but still GGs.

CEO 2022 was a major, but GOML 2023 is a Super Major, so noticably more significant & especially given how he took out 2 of his bracket demons in Leo (3-0) & Sparg0 (3-1) in this exact same event, yeah his performance here & the dub trumps CEO, like this is an evolution of him as a player.

Sonix is genuinely such a great player, dude had to go through so much shit from the community as well, great job Sonix!
It's because of how he use to play, literally run down the clock as much as possible. It's not fun to watch and it's just cheese.
On the other hand, his style has changed over the years, to this, which is fun to watch. But the fact is, a lot of people won't care, because in their head, Sonix is just a camper who just spin dashes all day.
Like sonix use to spam homing dash for edge guarding. Free edge guard, which is why he would lose so many stocks against top players trying to do that. Instead of now, where he is actually using his spring and back air, which if skilled enough, far more consistent.
The fact he put in the work to get good, is why he is getting better results now. Instead of just being a camping cheese head, which will get you results but he can't beat sparg0 that way.

I really think spargo should've tried cloud here after game 2 or 3. His aegis wasn't really up to par this weekend, meanwhile his cloud was playing insanely well
Edit: Yes I'm aware that his cloud got bodied at genesis against sonix, but then again his cloud got bodied against Light in their set at smash con fall fest and now look at their set record lmao. His aegis was getting demolished in game's 2 and 3 so its like why not try it?
Edit 2: Seems like a lot of people forgot that sparg0 used to use cloud against sonix a lot and has beaten him many times before with cloud too.
Cloud gets edge-guarded even harder in the mu. He also has a harder time keeping up with sonic in neutral. Aegis was prolly his best bet tbh.
His Aegis was indeed very shaky compared to his usual standards. Losing a set to Zomba, losing a game to Atreus and then getting rolled over by Sonix. At the same time, this is a very difficult matchup for Cloud.

Even though Leo lost, I would argue a move like Corrins giant nair is important against sonic.
One time sparg0 tried to use Cloud against Sonix, he lost a game in less than a minute.... Not a good match for cloud
Kudos to Sonix for pushing this character into new territory, he really refined the aggressive Sonic playstyle and walked away from this one with a well earned victory

The fact that Aegis can get reversed off of one mistake against Sonic both on and off-stage....makes me believe if Sonix optimizes the Fox matchup, there's NOTHING that can stop this character from becoming the best in the game. Yh once sonix can consistently beat light he’ll be unstoppable. Literally the only ppl that are capable of consistently beat him are the top 5 and leo (hes barely even top 10 at this point imo)

I think all it will take is a couple of hard sets against top 15 players with a solid projectile (a pika, mario, or wolf), to really develop some counterplay. Tilde didn't lose because he was getting outcamped neccesarily, but my theory is that he didn't fire enough laser at spindash. Transient projectiles should heavily contest it, I think.

Sonic needs to be fixed IMO, he should get slower as the match goes on. However, Sonix three stocked Sparg0 using skill not timing out.
Regardless of what you think about Sonix or his character, you can’t deny that he played phenomenally this tourney. His punish game, edgeguarding and offence are just insane. Super proud of him for taking this one down after getting very close a bunch of times. There’s no way he’s not top 5 at this point.

Hilarious how people say Sonix is "aggressive" now when all he did was to improve his edge guarding. Other than that, he is still camping and avoiding fights all the time until he gets enough chip damage in to go for the edge guards. Yeah, it takes skill but it's still pathetic and boring to watch.
Improving your edge guarding is aggression why you acting like it isn't. I'm not sure if you realize sonic isn't a rush down character he's a bait and punish type.

He came close to in one game vs Tilde, but the man did announce on Twitter that he intended to play campy, which is why he made his tag ''no morals'', so you can't pin this on Sonix. Besides that one game, his games weren't unusually long. You wouldn't know it was Sonix by looking at the time that these games took.

Sonic looking like a top 3 char in this. Sonic really leveled up. Maybe his recent gruelling long sets vs Capitancito in which they kept going back and strengthened his mental game.
No one can say that this was boring either. Sonix offensive pressure was like none other. Did not give Sparg0 time to compose himself.
With this loss Acola is now def nr 1 going by stats. Sparg0 might whoop Acola, but that probs has to do with Steve losing to Cloud. Acola is a far more consistent player than Sparg0. He has the better stats.
Really want to see Sonix vs Acola now.
Also really hoping Capitancito has a breakout performance soon. Capitancito regularly beats or narrowly loses to Sonix, and he had wins on tons of players.
