@@OurStorytoTell don't worry you able to eat it with the skin, because is made out of a "Natur Darm". It's just an Baverian thing to peel it, in the rest of Germany just some people eat it by peeling, you can think of it like a Potato with skin. And by the way the yellow ball is called a Knödel, there a different kinds of them with a filling or without and some are made with Semel (Bavarian for rolls "Brötchen"). They are made of uncooked and cooked Potatos mixed together and throw into hot water for 10 minutes.

@@OurStorytoTell The dumplings ("Knödel") are called "Klöße" in Franconia (or "Gniedli" lol). And as for the Weißwurst skin ..... well, a very known and famous German cook (don't remember who it was, Schuhbeck perhaps?) said, he does it like he does it with other boiled sausages (Wiener Würstchen, Bockwurst etc.) - he eats it WITH the skin! Viele liebe Grüße aus Mittelfranken! PS. And as for the mustard ..... try everything first WITHOUT mustard. There is no need to ruin the wonderful flavour of the Leberkäse! Same with horseradish Meerrettich. A wonderful spice but should be enjoyed in small portions lol. Meerrettichsoße and Tafelspitz ("prime boiled beef") and with Klöße - der Himmel auf Erden .....

While you can often choose which mustard you want to get with your Leberkäse, it's much more common to eat it with sweet mustard (the one you got with your Weisswurst).
The Weisswurst however, you usually peel it and just eat the inside. Or - if you don't have silverware you take a bite and then suck it out. Its called "zuzeln" in Bavaria. But if you are not used to zuzeln, it can become quiet messy. 😉 The "white balls" which came with your Schweinshaxe are potato dumplings called Kartoffelklöße. Raw potatos are peeled and grated andf then pressed to squeeze out the liquid (getting a dry mass). Add some salt to it as well as potato starch, form the balls then lightly boil it in hot water for about 20 mins. Many restaurants are offering those dumplings just with some gravy as a kids menu as kids like them alot. They are also very well known in Thuringia, where they are called Thüringer Klöße and contain some croutons (roasted cubes made from white bread).

To eat there is African cuisine, crepes or pizza and there is also a cozy beer garden behind the ship. There are also regular live concerts and other cultural events such as children's theater.

welcome to my hometown - but woaaah... PEEL the sausage!!!! I tell you one secret extra. White-sausage-breakfeast is a meal of 4 components - if one is not there - the experience is not complete - a good fresh Whitesausage - a sweet mustard of bavaria - a fresh Breze (normally 1 per sausage) - AND... a Whitebeer - no Helles no Pils - Whitebeer with Hefe - the alc-free version is allowed - but without it is incomplete. We even like it so much - typical it would be a breakfeast at 10-11 o clock and we are prepared to drink 1-2 Beer so early.

That "who knows what" is Knödel (DE) / knedlík (CZ) / dumpling. And it's typical side dish in Central Europe. There are many different types of Knödel. Some are made of bread and flour, some of boiled potatoes and flour, some are even sweet (made of quark and flour and sugar), some are boiled in water, some in steam, some are plain, some with filled meat or fruit, some are cooked in a meatloaf shape and then sliced, some are cooked in individual smaller ball shapes (like the one you ate). The main thing is that it's starchy, spongy and absorbs liquids well (sauce / meat juice / melted butter). Honestly, if you live in Bavaria, you NEED to know Knödel.

The crunch of the brotchen and the crackle on the schweinshaxe just makes the mouth water. And oh those pretzels are so wonderful. All that was missing was a Spezi to wash it all down with.

For the record, only in the southern-mid part of the Englisher Garten, where you were in this video, besides the one near the chinese pagoda(which is the one you were at) there are at least other 2. :)

I sad it before that German Beef Rouladen is one of the best tasting German dishes ever, served with boiled dumpings and red cabbage. Rouladen are made with flattened and pounded beef filled with yellow mustard, a must have slathered on the beef, and filled with bacon strips, onions then rolled-up and either tied with butcher's string or toothpicks to hold it all together. Then you brown them in a pan, then you make a gravy from the juice drippings and place the Rouladen into the gravy to complete the cooking process. Then you make the dumplings and boil them in hot water and add the dumplings and use the gravy and enjoy...though I never was a fan of the hot red cabbage, so I never ate it....that's how my Mom made it, and as I said in another video that I would kill to have it again!!!

You got a "plain" Leberkäse there are also some with chunks of cheese inside = "Käseleberkäs" and also some with pieces of peppers = "Pikanter Leberkäs"
And Weisswurst is not eaten with the skin...the "traditional way" to eat a Weisswurst is to suck it out..but you can also cut it lengthways and pull out the meat..
The reason way it is a "before noon" meal goes back to the time where there were no refridgerators..they were made in the morning with raw meat and just lasted for a few hours before the meat became bad back then.
You got a potato-dumpling = Kartoffelknödel it is made out of mashed potatoes and potato starch and a little bit of semolina and that makes it then "spungy"

In the latter one you have to eat from their menu. In a Biergarten you are not. But you should always ask first, because this tradition is fading a little bit. Here are five of the best Biergarten:

    Hofbräukeller at the Wiener Platz
    Augustinerkeller located in the Arnulfstraße
    Münchner Haupt (Kaltenberg Bier)
    Hirschgarten (Augustiner, Tegernseer)
Last one is the biggest with over 7000 seats, but still very "gemütlich" (comfortable).

The intention is, keeping it warm as long as possible, before eating it. Thats why it comes in hot water, not just lying on the dish. And thats also the reason why you should remove the skin in last moment.

Hi Risa, hi Tanner, did you eat the 'Weißwurst' including the skin? This isn't how it is meant to be eaten. There are two traditional way to eat the Weißwurst. One is called 'zuzeln' and means that you literally suck the meat out of it's skin. The other one is to cut open the skin of the sausage lengthwise and then peel the skin off. How you ate it is the way Bavarians expect you, as non-Bavarians, to eat it, when they try to fool you by inviting you for a Weißwurst Frühstück. When I moved to Munich they also tried to fool me by inviting me one Sunday morning to the Schneiders Brauhaus that is located quite close to the old Townhall in Munich. However, I was prepared and did it the traditional Bavarian way by cutting it lengthwise. 😉

@@OurStorytoTell Some Background: "Schäufele" is Frankonian for small "Schaufel" (shovel). Since the roast is pork shoulder, the bone which is left over looks like a shovel. The bone protects the meat in the oven. A good Schäufele should be possible to only eat with a Spoon. The meat should be very tender and soft and falling from the bone. Also a crispy delicious skin is important. Usually the sauce is delicous. And of course you will get 1-2 "Knödel" (or Frankonian: Klos, pl. Klöse) as a side with it. Sometimes also with "Blaukraut" (Bavarian, but also called "Rotkraut" - from red cabbage) - but not needed. Ah and a green side salad or white cabbage salad.

I do not know where you both are from but as you could take from the professionell videos of Mark Wiens, prepare before recording.
The potatoe ball is called Knödl, but this one seems not to be done in an original way but with a mixture from the Nestlé company. The skin of the "Schweinshaxn" shows if it is cross but easy to bite that it has been made perfect in an oven. If you can chew it like a bubblegum, this would be a sign that they made it in a heater. For the sausage, remove the skin before you eat them. Finally if your food Blog does not work, think about a carrer as an influencer double of Mrs. Hummels.
