It kinda is, but you can’t tackle this topic easily, especially foreigners cuz cartel violence kills people here daily, its a delicate topic, it’s like making a movie about a terrorist in the US trying to redeem after killing people all his life
Entertainment industry award ceremonies like this really are just an excuse for the most significant, influential, successful (and thus powerful) of that industry to come together and have a great big circlejerk, pat each other on the back, and hand out some nepotism awards to some of their less fortunate personal friends. It happens with the Oscars, it happens with the Grammys, now we've got the Game Awards, and they even came up with those "VTuber Awards" now. They're all the same. It's just the rich guys at the top congratulating themselves. Don't pay any attention to them. They're always a waste of time.
It's become the biggest circle jerk ever. I'm starting to think the awards and nominations aren't based on the movie at all but on something else. My guess is this movie was the front for some wild drug/sex party. Why else would it get so many nominations?
Is insane how everyone involved in it managed to dig a grave because of this movie, even 3rd parties like Guillermo del Toro which most likely make compliments to not lose jobs but in the end he ended up looking like a hypocrite due to his dad being kidnapped for ransom a while back. Also the only Mexican actress in the movie was ignored in every gala, separating her from the other actresses and supposedly the director was about to come to México to promote the movie, but at the end It was that actress alone
Dont forget that karla is also in hot water over throwing baseless accusations of hate campaings towards her from the crew of “im still here” the actual movie made by latin americans about latin america
I mean, if this was a comedy film with this concept it would be a blast. Now a "serious" film with this theme is just insane and would need a supperb director to make it work. They clearly hadn't.
As someone on the trans spectrum I agree. You can definitely have trans villains, because there's going to be bad people in any group, but if you're trying to make a sympathetic portrayal it usually means that you either need that character to be the hero, or to properly make sure you let your audience know they're not bad because they're trans, but something else in their life. I'm not one of those people who say making a trans villain is inherently transphobic because anybody can do bad things. But because this film is about a drug lord/lady transitioning, with not much else for substance and a bunch of other problems along with it, it doesn't do a good job at either of these. I don't even mind the idea of a trans character involved in organized crime, because many real life organized crime organizations have had histories of being anti lgbtq+. I think it'd be a genuinely interesting thing to explore the idea of a mob member realizing they're transgender while working for an organization that is against the idea. I think it'd be a great watch if it went into various topics, especially because the history of LGBTQ+ individuals in the organized crime scene is interesting and not widely talked about from my experience. However, you'd need a good writer, director, and actors to portray that idea in a tasteful manner. Something this film clearly didn't have.
Was that even the directors’s purpose? I think he just got the film nominated because he was very famous and successful in France, so he had to pack a film with as many Oscar marketing shortcuts as possible
I'm just sorry for Conan, I was very excited to see him host Oscars for once but now I'm not going to watch it. Well, maybe his clips on TH-cam later but that's it.
So imagine a Nazi director of a concentration camp undergoes a sex change operation, then takes the money he earned from ‘his labour camp’ and in a ‘tactful’ redemption arc, uses part of that money to help Jews find their missing loved ones, without telling them beforehand that he was the one responsible for their suffering to begin with. He then dies, and in the final scene he is honoured and celebrated by the victims he ‘helped’. That is pretty much the moral plot of Emilia Perez

It really feels like the Oscar's were obsessed with promoting a trans movie and a movie about being a minority. But instead of choosing a *good* movie that actually handles those topics well, like Nimona a few years back, they decided that they absolutely must do that this year, when the only option was a hamfisted train wreck film that treats neither demo with any respect. They could have, you know, supported these groups BEFORE they were being actively purged by our presidency, maybe actually advocated against hate before it became US policy, but that would have required forethought hollywood does not have.
Even this year they could've gone with "I Saw The TV Glow," a trans story by a trans screenwriter and director with a black lead. But the Academy in its infinite wisdom would rather make absolue clowns of itself than acknowledge horror cinema as legitimate art.
They just care about getting bag not minority. Remember Japanese Anime movie called Silent Voice(Koe no Katachi) got defeated by Baby Boss in Oscar nomination even though it tackles on disability, bullying and redemption.
It's really not about the issues or topics. Hollywood just takes whatever is trending to bring more attention to itself. Nobody there actually cares. Attention = money for them. Real life issues that regular people deal with are just hashtags to them
Putting a trans person in the role of a person that every good Mexican would like to see three meters underground certainly it wasn't the best decision in that movie (and that's even though a lot of BAD decisions were made there lmao).

This movie has become in fact a meme and one of the most hated movies of all time in Latin America. The story is Wattpat levels of stupid (a caricature of Mexico with a trans druglord doing musicals). The songs are AWFUL, they have no rhythm and the lyrics weren't made by someone who actually speaks Spanish. A story of a cartel boss that wants to retire doesn't sounds bad. In fact there's a lot of potential great plot that came with it, about moral dilemma, about pasts, about facing what it undone.
Too bad that the idea became a shit
I mean replace "boss" with "underling" and you basically have the plot to "El Camino."
The boss is not liable for his crime anymore because he is now a she?
Basically sakamoto days
It is a good idea but its extreaaammly delicate to handle. }}
I'd be like making a movie about a SS officer trying to help jews you know? Can be done? yeah of course buuuut i'd had to be a 180 from Emilia Perez XD
I've honestly never seen my country so in unison. Its beautiful honestly.
It kinda is, but you can’t tackle this topic easily, especially foreigners cuz cartel violence kills people here daily, its a delicate topic, it’s like making a movie about a terrorist in the US trying to redeem after killing people all his life
1:14 and ignorant, rash, esteroetypical, racist, insensible, hurtful, and so forth
I've always said that award shows like The Oscars are decided before the movies even come out.
At least one new drama isn’t ‘insane’ for once
Ikr
The Emilia Perez drama is INSANE!!!
Is insane how everyone involved in it managed to dig a grave because of this movie, even 3rd parties like Guillermo del Toro which most likely make compliments to not lose jobs but in the end he ended up looking like a hypocrite due to his dad being kidnapped for ransom a while back.
Also the only Mexican actress in the movie was ignored in every gala, separating her from the other actresses and supposedly the director was about to come to México to promote the movie, but at the end It was that actress alone
...wut. kidnapping? Ransome?
Dont forget that karla is also in hot water over throwing baseless accusations of hate campaings towards her from the crew of “im still here” the actual movie made by latin americans about latin america
When writing a film about a sympathetic portrayal of trans people, ya don't make the trans character a drug lord. The films very concept is absurd
That’s why she also abandons her children and blames her past actions on her toxic masculinity
I mean, if this was a comedy film with this concept it would be a blast. Now a "serious" film with this theme is just insane and would need a supperb director to make it work. They clearly hadn't.
@@cannonfodder9248 His actions.
Ain't no one watching the oscars again 💀

So imagine a Nazi director of a concentration camp undergoes a sex change operation, then takes the money he earned from ‘his labour camp’ and in a ‘tactful’ redemption arc, uses part of that money to help Jews find their missing loved ones, without telling them beforehand that he was the one responsible for their suffering to begin with. He then dies, and in the final scene he is honoured and celebrated by the victims he ‘helped’. That is pretty much the moral plot of Emilia Perez
Wanna know why emilia perez situation is not good, it was nominated for 13 oscars. wanna know who had less:
Dark knight trilogy: 8 nominations
Harry potter (whole series btw): 12 nominations
Inception: 8 nominations
Shawshank redemption: 7 nominations
Parasite: 6 nominations
The matrix: 4 nominations
Joker (2019): 11 nominations
Interstellar: 5 nominations
Pulp Fiction: 7 nominations
it has more nominations than fucking return of the king, man
THE WHOLE SERIES OF HARRY POTTER!?!?!?
It had more nominations than the fucking SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION?!
It's rather telling that the value of an Oscar has fallen off when garbage like this gets more nominations than genuinely great movies in the past 35 years, give or take.

@@tjenadonn6158 it's probably just as gross and disgusting as the rest of the stuff with those freaks. I hope they can find their way back to sanity.
They just care about getting bag not minority. Remember Japanese Anime movie called Silent Voice(Koe no Katachi) got defeated by Baby Boss in Oscar nomination even though it tackles on disability, bullying and redemption.
Or hear me out, somebody has the entire Oscar committee by the balls.
