So appreciative!! I have been spreading the news of this wonderful option of Villa Vie Residences to my friends and family members as well as sharing your videos. Sometimes I feel like I am in possession of cruising’s best kept secret. It takes a bit for people to grasp the concept of residential cruising thus sharing the resident’s videos channels is the best way I can think of. Again …much gratitude for your excellent videos. I have seen the corinthe canal in greece and was kind of expecting the same structure so was pleasantly surprised. I always wanted to do that since I went through the three gorges dam project in China. At that time, the project was not completed. It had six locks and we traversed it at night. I found it completely fascinating. We had other large boats and several very small fishing boats in the locks with us. Thanks for showing us the process with the Panama Canal.

Thanks for posting another enjoyable video. It would have been nice to have seen your transit through the locks on the Pacific side as well. We did a partial transit last year from the Atlantic up to Lake Gatun and then back down to the Atlantic again, which we thoroughly enjoyed, but I’d love to see the transit down the other end of the canal to Panama City.
Another excellent video! How many locks do you go through for the entire process? I was surprised to hear of a lake in the middle! 😮How long do you sail on that before the next set of locks? Sounds so exciting!

The railroad engines are called “mules” because originally they used real animals to pull ships. Ditto all the other canals that date from the 1800s. The name continued to be used even after the mules were phased out .
We've done it once - waaaay back in 2006 on a fairly small cruise ship by today's standards: Celebrity Infinity. It was a full transit from Pacific to Atlantic (which oddly, of course, is actually going east to west). Great experience. So strange to see the walls of the canal literally just a few feet from sides of ship.

What an exciting trip for you and during an historic time as I hear the U.S. is taking the canal back. This will lower the cost for American shipssignificantly. All of the large cruise ships are flagged in foreign countries with the exception of the NCL Pride of America sailing in Hawaii. So I don't think the cruise lines will be getting a price break going through the Panama Canal, since they aren't US flagged.

@ You are correct. In a partial transit you still get to experience the locks twice, and nothing is lost in the experience.
