    LESSON NOTES:
The etude in this video was written by John, based on the chord progression of the tune 'Con Alma' by the great Dizzy Gillespie. It starts with a 12/8 Latin groove that switches into 4/4 for the B section then back to 12/8 again. In this video, John demonstrates both grooves and switches between them, explaining how to keep an internal pulse to ground you. He then performs the tune with his fantastic band, featuring Caroline Boaden on drums and Jamil Sheriff on piano at 02:03.
Don't forget, you can download the transcription, and play along with the band using the backing tracks on our website: discoverdoublebass.com/lesson...

I have a gig coming up playing that tune with the great Tony Purrone. Listening to this cleared up much confusion. Thank you!

Great lesson, beautiful tune (and of course tone too) . But tell me something : I am under the impression that you play some other parts (not just the Latin groove and the swing part) with the band at the end of the video ??

No, I've just checked and the band only play the Etude and don't do anything more. That said, the PDF was recently edited, so it may be you're looking at an older version? The download link is now the most current so apologies if that's caused any confusion.
