Your hair didn't break the comb. The stylist that didn't want to do your hair, her own bias, and improper training, treated your hair in that manner and SHE broke the comb by not handling your hair properly and with care. Your hair is and always has been amazing and manageable. Proper products and techniques are key and a true professional can do it. Great job beautiful hair!!

Indeed... And I hate that she was imprinted by such a negative experience with her hair. It's a major beauty marker, that's legitimately attractive on it's own... Hopefully, this trend is something than can be reversed in the upcoming years.

I agree. The stylist broke the comb by not using the proper size and type of comb. My biological sister and I need 2 different type combs for out hair because the texture is different.

The fact that there are still places where it just isn't allowed is just mind bugging. Is this required of any other race? NO. To have their hair presentable for TV? Sure. But, what is the presentable? Eurocentric ones. I'm proud of your journey. It brings representation to a lot of girls who will look at you on their TVs and see that a successful black woman on TV looks like them, and that it can become an attainable goal for them. It will also bring that little push to all women scared of going natural or in the journey of reclaiming their blackness. They'll look at you and might decide to go for it. For that I thank, you for your honesty and boldness in documenting your journey in an educational tasteful heartfelt way.

As an African -American female, the idea of curly hair was the same. She spoke nothing but facts about the stigma of Afro-textured hair , especially if you grew up in the 90s/early 2000s. I just went natural 2016. Yes it is not easy.

It is beautiful, but it’s also technically heat damaged, so more “relaxed” aka “acceptable” than it might be once it grows out and reveals her natural texture, which I’m sure is even more beautiful. Unfortunately, beautiful to “us” and others who appreciate it, might not be perceived that way by the majority (including other black people who have internalized the negative message about Afro textured hair). I personally don’t gaf and have been natural for over 20 years. Not going back.

2023, I've been natural all my life. One thing I never cared about is what people had to say about my hair. It was short and curly there was nothing you could do with it. I was such a mean little thing people were not allowed to touch my hair. If someone tried to touch my hair, I would SWAT their hands. 😂

Hair stylists are always trying to tell women that we need their expertise when it comes to our own hair. If you're getting relaxers, color etc then maybe BUT no one should have to consult a hair stylish to learn how to do their own natural hair. And YT is a wonderful place to learn despite what this young lady is saying.

So, if I’m reading this right she was basically nice/nasty bullied into this….? I always thought people came to this country specifically because of the freedom of self expression it’s a shame that community wants you to fit their mold so they feel better about themselves.. for those that care about their natural texture you should focus on your journey and stop telling people no matter how encouragingly (nice/nasty) you do it. Having a discussion is cool but this helps me understand how the political system got so far away from us as we are worried about people’s hair styles and what they do when they minding their own business. A distracted public is a wet dream for a future Dictator….
