I just wish On could add 2 mm of the midsole in the forefoot or, as you mentioned, larger pods for a better pop.
I looked at this again as they have a trail version this year.I also because it’s grey will probably apply some flip petrol blue car tire shine that will give it a sparkly fun look because I like to switch it up if it looks on the boring side out the box..!?
I just bought a pair of these and found it really laboring to run in them. I think the size of the cushion, maybe working leg muscles a bit more than needed. Ive been running in the same model of shoe for the past 3 years, so my legs are "familiar" with what to expect.
My first impressions were spot on to yours. Didn’t care for it as much as I thought I would. But it has grown on me for really cushioned easy miles. I also agree about wanting a bit more spring in the forefoot! Great review!
I got the shoe yesterday and wore it out shopping at the mall and everywhere I had no leg pain or feet pain and it was more comfortable than the other on shoes I tried on hated the others way to hard but these are very comfortable and on par with my max stack cushion shoes very very comfy!
The all black is by far the best colour and is one of the best looking shoes currently available from any brand. But on the actual running part, I've only done two 10km and one 21.1km runs so far. It was good for the 21kms, but fantastic for the 10km. It's one of the most enjoyable shoes I've ever run in. The upper is pretty much best in class. I don't have any issues with forefoot cushioning and I don't think it's narrow at all. It's nice to have practically a max cushion feel without the weight. I actually don't like it so much for walking though as I think it feels less stable than when I run in it, but I still where it around a bit because I like how it looks.
I always view ON running shoes as having air as their cushioning mid sole, like the Nike Air many years ago. Meanwhile, other manufacturers have their own proprietary technologies. Please help me understand what makes ON shoes stand out.
Great shoe but after around 50kms right shoe has developed that annoying squeak that’s seems many others have experienced so to negate that you have to rough up those pod slots at the heel area & the squeaks seemingly goes away but ON need to know this so as to fix this issue on there next incarnation of this model..
I've heard a lot of buzz about these and their stock has been doing great. I really don't like the look of the shoe. I just took a look and they don't have Extra-Wide (4E) or Extra-Extra-Wide (6E) so they wouldn't fit me anyways.
Those ON midsoles are only good, if you run in very clean road surface areas. Any fine gravel, any mud, it stuffs in the midsole and takes time to clean out afterwards. And the drop is too high! Oh, and for someone like me, with duck-shaped broad forefoots, ON are always to narrow.
Pour avoir eu souvent des On Cloud, on ne sent pas du tout les cailloux, gros ou petits. Je laisse de coté pour l'instant la marque car j'ai des pieds très larges (hallux valgus et névrome de Morton)
Nothing wrong with that colorway. About 40% of my running shoes are black or mostly so. When they get retired from running, they are my work shoes (elementary school teacher). Also, regardless of how good or bad On shoes are for running, they always, ALWAYS… #lookgoodwithjeans. The general consensus I’ve heard on this one is that it’s good! Mainly because it’s different than all other On shoes! 😏
It's a plastic plate in between the midsole to give it more stability and spring. Nothing more. "Speed Board" is a fancy name On calls it just to persuade people against the competition. Muzuno also uses a plastic plate and calls it a wave plate or wave technology. Saucony Endorphin Speed also uses a plastic plate and calls it a nylon plate. The term " Speed Roll Technology" Saucony uses is also nothing more than a fancy word for a shoe that has a rocker that starts right behind the ball of your foot.
With no board and all that holes, I see why there is no "pop". Also the holes reduce the real amount of stack height so all I can see here is a way to save money to produce the shoe... Nothing more. Quite disappointed.
I tried this shoe out yesterday at my local running store. I wear neutral running shoes and land on my forefoot and supinate. This shoe is not bouncy but responsive in a snappy way, followed by a smooth roll and toe off with a nice flex. I guess it comes down to someone's biomechanics. I was a skeptic when it came to On shoes, but now I'm a true believer when it comes to this model only. If On implements this same tech in their other models, I think their become popular among runners and not just a lifestyle shoe.
This is for sure a daily trainer that can do a little bit of everything. Also the first ON shoe that’s not hard as a brick

Removing the board sounds great. Previous shoes were very stiff 9n the midsole because of it.

How is the support/pronation control? Looks like your feet were sinking into the midsole. I can see why you say they feel like they don't spring back.
I’m definitely overpronating but not terrible. I’ve overpronated worse in other neutral shoes
