A little weird that they compared different spec level but then put the components against each other, you can get a mega 290 with a fox and Shimano spec if you want
I think its even more weird to compare different wheel sizes. I thought they were only comparing suspension designs. Just to find out its also different wheel sizes too.
Lets see a comparison of the Giga vs Nomad and the Mega vs Mega Tower. But then again what about Giga 27.5 vs the Giga 29er and Mega 27.5 vs Mega 29er.
@@Spencer_Bikes I'd be interested to hear how it rides! Giga is on my shopping list for next year and I'm also thinking about mullet. But how to approach it tho. Hey 650b fram and loose ability to run 29er or get the 29er frame and lower the travel on front 🤔🤔🤔
@@jankesdh87 I'll let ya know! I'm leaving for a trip to Bellingham this week, but when I get back I'm going to go mullet. I'm actually going to take the 170 Fox 36 off of my SB150 which would keep the geo pretty similar.
Obviously a 290 mega is gonna plough and a 275 giga is gonna be more playful OR plough because of the long travel? Shouldve been same wheel sizes for both imo
Sorry mate nothing personal, but I had to give a thumbs down. I can work with different build kits because there are a number of options out there, but two different wheel sizes is unacceptable. That is simply not a valid comparison between the two bikes, if we're trying to determine pros/cons, strengths/weaknesses, etc. Not helpful.
Very strange review indeed :) Compare the time of 290 Giga and 290 Mega, compare air time, cornering and all like that but compare apple to apple. And find why is the reason. Is it Giga linkage kinematic or maybe just Fox dumper is better and that is why so compare Mega and Giga both 29 and both with full Fox and so on. That would be great review.
I had the exact issue. This seemed to mostly be a comparision between Nukeproof's Factory vs RS build kit with a little bit of 27.5 vs 29 thrown in, with very little actual Giga vs Mega comparisons.
This review turned out way different than I expected it to be, I thought the giga was just gonna be a bigger and more plowy mega but I was most definitely wrong, i loved this unique review and I hope more videos like this are coming!
Not an accurate or fair review due strictly to differences in wheel size, unfortunately. Your thinking about the Giga could be true, but we don't know bc he reviewed a 275 model...
A theoretically interesting comparison between two excellent enduro bikes. However I do have one glaring issue with the points raised; most of this comparison seemed to be more between the different build kits (Giga's Factory Fox/Shimano build is apparently superior) and different wheel sizes (how much of the Mega's extra speed, and the Giga's extra playfulness was purely down to wheel size?). The reason I take issue here is because while the Giga isn't available in the Mega's RS build, the Mega is available in the apparently superior (and conveniently cheaper) Factory build, so any advantages to the Giga for better brakes, dropper post and rear shock can also apply to the Mega. Likewise both models are available in both 27.5in and 29in, in all sizes, so any advantages based on wheel size are a wash between both bikes. A proper comparison, purely to decide which model is superior for you would have worked much better if the variables of wheel size and build kits were kept the same (i.e. between a Giga 290 Factory and Mega 290 Factory), leaving the comparion to be between the actual model variables, namely four-bar vs single-pivot suspension platforms and 160/170mm vs 170/180mm travel (on the 290; the Giga 275 gets 180/180mm).
Agreed! Some really good things about the review, but just not a real "comparison between the two models" because too many differences due only to wheel size! Disappointing....
These are very good points > a better comparison would have been based on the frame geometry by having the same forks, socks, wheels, drivetrain and brakes etc.
@@RicardoPetrazzi Yep, that's exactly my point. While the Mega's RS build isn't available for the Giga, the Factory build kit of the Giga (with Fox 38/X2, Shimano XT groupset/brakes, DT Swiss EX1700 wheels and Bikeyoke dropper) is also available for the Mega.
A really good review but it leaves me wondering how much of the playfulness is caused by the 275 wheels on the Giga? Do you think it would be less playful with 290 wheels?
I went with the the mega 275 which is undoubtably the most poppy of the bunch. it is most likely the wheel size coming into play here. im a lighter rider so the giga seemed like just unnecessary weight for me.
i havent used the 4pistons XT but after 3 sets of shimano brakes (xt xxx,slx 7000,xt 8000) that I ran previously, which needed frequent bleeding, suffered inconsistent brake lever feel and pumped up like crazy I switched to code RSCs, they have more power (went back to 180mm rotors even), better modulation(even tho I thought there's gonna be a bigger difference tbh), they are much more comfy to bleed with their design of the kit, they are fully consistent from top to bottom of the trail and so far I didnt manage to heat them up significantly even if I tried to... to me it's a no-contest, and I would consider myself a fan of shimano over sram for sure.
for me I went with a mega 275 because im not necessarily concerned with shaving milliseconds but also im a lighter rider so I don't necessarily need the giga suspension I don't think. I think I value the mega 275 being the most poppy of the bunch while still able to party and enough plowing for me. just my 2c.
Not happy with chain reaction right now. The paint on my 2020 mega is very weak and spider web cracked before I even got it. They won't warrenty the frame as it's "normal wear and tear".
What if the giga 275 is more your riding style but the mega alloy is the only one in your price range AND the 290 is the only one in stock in your frame size.......? Guess I’ll find out in 7-10 business days 😬
I sold my 2021 v4 mega 290 and it was an awesome bike, then bought a sunn kern en 29 and the sunn is far superior. Formula suspension and brakes, x01 AXS, full carbon frame, carbon wheels. So good. Also set it up as a mullet. It's fast and down to business but has so much pop and playfulness and begs you to pump into everything. But that doesn't defy how you ride it, you can ride it all out or lazy no problem. Big hits are no problem and the thing corners so well. Out performs the mega in all aspects
Why compare in different wheel sizes? I feel like a lot of the differences are due to the wheel size and not the model/geometry/kinematics itself. A bit of a waste of a video imo. Should've gotten the 29 Giga.
idk if that's just me but the first half of the video is just evaluating components. i never get why bike reviews go so much into single components which don't say anything about the bike at all. Please review just the bike. If i want to watch a break comparison i'll search for that. If i have a bike which has breaks i don't like i swap / upgrade them. just my humble opinion though. Second part was exactly what i'd expect.
Not a great comparison.. 27.5 vs 29 makes discerning between wheel size and frame/geometry benefits hard. I'm not sure what the difference/benefit is between them because I'm not sure what can be attributed to just wheel size.

Just wait when the Shimano brakes start to leak oil out of the cylinders. Happens in one or two seasons depending on how much and where you ride. They have no dirt ingress protection what so ever, and dirt scratches the walls until they leak. You have to replace the entire lever as they do not sell spares.
