    When this movie came out, I was living in Oklahoma City. The theater I watched this in was located in the Crossroads Mall.
    During the movie, when the group gets to the mall there's a moment when the camera holds on the mall's name "Crossroads Mall".
    Everyone in the theater gave a surprised laugh at that, and then it became a little uncomfortable for a moment.
    Still one of my most memorable theater experiences.

      A mall is a really bad place to hole up, actually. Firstly, it's probably right in the middle of a major population centre, which guarantees that there were will be large numbers of zombies around. Possibly including inside the mall itself, meaning you'll have to risk life and limb, and expend a lot of resources, to clear out the building and secure it as a shelter.
      Second, malls have tons and tons of entrances and exits. Because they need to have fire exits for everyone in the building, and they need to have ways for stock to be delivered by truck, then distributed to every shop in the building without wheeling it through the public thoroughfares where customers are meant to walk. Which means malls also tend to be warrens of backroom corridors. You would have to barricade dozens of potential entry-points, and if a single zombie got inside, it could be bumbling around in the backrooms for days before you encountered it.
      Third, most of the goods that malls sell are inedible, and food and water are your #1 priorities in a disaster scenario like this. What's more, most of the food that malls sell is not long-lasting, and will go bad extremely quickly. Especially once the power fails and all the fridges and freezers shut down. It doesn't matter how many potential zombie-killing weapons you have, if you're so starved and dehydrated that you can't even move.

      @@tbotalpha8133 A mall is also the one place many other people would seek out, so you'll have competition, and may have to fight to gain entrance to the mall. Not to mention any looting that has taken place when society began to break down. ANother thing about a mall having many entrances, they also tend to have extremely large windows located throughout, so as to help bring in as much natural light as possible. The windows would be easily seen though, and if smashed, would be adding to the various locations to enter the mall.

    Fun fact: the super strength sometimes seen in zombie movies is actually realistic to some degree. The human body is actually capable on much more strength then we can use on a day to day basis. The reason for this is that we have limiters to stop us from destroying our bodies irreparably.

The truck crashing into the gas station diner is Ben's story from Night of The Living Dead 1968 about how he was at Beakman's Diner escaping in a pickup truck when another truck crashed into the gas pump and blew the place up. Yeah, I gotta agree with Romero's assessment here. The best part of this movie is the opening, and then the rest of it is pretty bog-standard survival-horror stuff. I'm not really a big fan of Zack Snyder's style in general though. He's all style and no substance at best, and at worst, his films are pessimistic objectivist dreck. Romero's original DOTD is very stylish, but also has a lot of depth. It's social commentary still hits hard today. That opening scene where the SWAT team raids that black apartment complex still leaves my jaw on the floor every time I watch it. Admittedly, this one is still pretty fun though. It's about as close as Zack ever came to making a truly great movie

      I take Romero's criticism with a grain of salt. He only made two good movies really, and the remake of Night of the living Dead was pretty awful by any standard. Still at least he gave us the original Dawn of the Dead, the best Zombie movie ever! Honestly, this is a pretty good remake, it stays true to the original, but also does not remake it scene for scene. It brings new scares, and takes advantage of new tech to convey the story. Slow zombies is automatically horror and fast zombies means it is action
      In my view I think fast zombies a more terrifying because you have to manage your stamina all the time
      The zombies have always a massive power because they will you use the full power their body is possible to physically give and they can use until the got "killed"
      And your chance of dealing with 3 at the same time is very tough to handle and can be a quick near to death situation
      In a city situation like in the movie you are immediately surrounded by them and without good weapons or a group of people your chances to survive this apocalypse is near to zero. This scenario is so terrible and scary when I think about it .

    My theory on why the fast zombies are so strong (big lady moved at full speed) is that they are running on basic instincts and since they cant feel its the same as being pumped full of morphine. No muscle pain or cramps are gonna stop you from moving as fast as possible for your frame.

It's more like a reboot of the franchise with a separate and new story that is different city than the original, so it doesn't step on it's story/toes. If the world ended tomorrow every Mall in the world would have a story to tell. Hope you guys do "Army of The Dead".

    8:02 thats Tom Savini, the guy that did all of the special effects for the original Dawn, as well as remade Night.
    9:09 thats Ken Foree, who was one of the stars of the original Dawn, and the line he says is a line that he also says in the original Dawn.
    The other two stars of the original Dawn also had cameos in the movie, Scott Reiniger was a military man on the TV, and Gaylen Ross had her name placed as signage on a building in the background of the outside shots.
    19:57 I mean, honestly, it depends on two things. For one, do the zombies act like World War Z zombies? as in will they be able to climb up over each other like a ladder? if so, then fuck no, get outta there, and 2) If not, then does the mall have a garden shop in it that is selling vegetables? if so, then get that shit planted on the roof ASAP and start growing some food, rationing what available food is currently in the food courts until harvest time. If you can, then just collect rain water, bring down all the barriers on the main doors and windows, and block off any possible service doors, and a mall could actually be a very solid place to hole up.

Not to mention this is James Gunn's last screenplay before he made the move to directing. I do wonder what it would've been like if he'd directed this. I used to assume he did direct this because he was a bigger name in my mind from his days writing and at Troma Studios before that. I'm a huge Troma fan. Toxic Avenger, Sgt Kabukiman NYPD, Tromeo and Juliet etc. Good times. 09:16 - Actor Ken Foree from the original Dawn of The Dead - 1978
    I enjoyed re-watching this movie with you both, LOL! I would love to watch you both play Left For Dead - 2008. I absolutely loved that game. 😀❤. Thanks for the video, guys.

    Hi y'all. I saw the original in the movie theater when I was in 8th grade. I like this one much better. 28 days later started the running zombies. Night of the Living Dead still the scariest movie I ever saw. I was 11 when I saw it and it scared the piss out of me. Good reaction. Keep up the good work.

    • @ollietsb1704
      @ollietsb1704 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dork, do you know why NIGHT's slow-zombies is so scary? They are, to me. I frankly dislike the 28-SERIES (and this film) where all zombies are Usain-Bolt types - everyone is an Olympic Sprinter, it seems. The Slow Horde seems far more terrifying - "I can run but I can't hide!" That inevitability feeds a depressing hopelessness, and that seems scarier to ponder, I think. What about you? Have you dissected why NIGHT's slow-zombies are so effective, even now?

    • @dorkmier
      @dorkmier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ollietsb1704 I think it's like being on a sinking ship. If it goes down fast there isn't much time to ponder but if it's going down slow it's the building tension that goes along with the inevitability of what is happening. I saw NOTLD about 6 or 7 months after my sister taking me to see Jaws. I thought Jaws was a loss of sleep but it didn't even come close to NOTLD. Then a couple of months later I saw The Exorcist. Didn't sleep for like 2 or 3 years after all that. Hahahahahahahaha

    I'm not going to lie. This is the most terrifying zombie movie ever for me! Night of the Living Dead is amazing and the original Dawn of the Dead was pretty enjoyable, but this movie scared the hell out of me!! Running zombies!? That's a whole new ball game of survivalism!! On top of that, the zombie baby scene really really upset me!

    *+You, Me, & The Movies* I'm new to your channel, but, if you two ever listen to creepypastas, I'd HIGHLY recommend reacting to We Were Wrong About the Zombie Apocalypse. It was originally a short story posted years ago on Reddit by u/Mushi_to_Sleer. But there are multiple videos on TH-cam now in which a voice narrates it, essentially just like an audiobook.

    I don't know. Would you really assume zombie before anything else? Could you believe it? Even then you're assuming that zombies exist in pop culture in this universe. That isn't always the case. It happens sometimes. There are others where they aren't called zombies. Some are fast, some are slow. This isn't Zombieland. Or even Zombieland 2. or Shaun of the Dead. or Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse or many others I can't think of.

    My ideal long range weapon for a Zombie Apocalypse would be either a long bow or a crossbow. I'm a pretty good shot with a crossbow, but they do take longer to reload than a long bow. I've also recently taken up archery, but I'm not as good with the long bow as I am the crossbow. Bows and crossbows are good because they're quieter than guns and you can recover the arrows for later use. Firing a rifle in a Zombie Apocalypse is essentially ringing the dinner bell.
    For medium range weapons I would use a semiautomatic handgun and/or pump action shotgun. If the zombies are close enough for handguns and shotguns, then stealth is no longer an option and you need to go with efficiency.
    For close quarters weapons, an aluminum baseball bat and (if I can find one) an authentic army trench knife. A single well placed full force hit to the head with a baseball bat creates the type of brain trauma that puts down a zombie permanently. And trench knives were specifically designed to stab through a military issue helmet and into the skull, puncturing the brain and is ideal for killing zombies (if you can keep from getting bit while using it.
    As for the perfect place to seek shelter during a Zombie Apocalypse? Alcatraz! The prison itself is a literal fortress. Being virtually escape proof, it's also very difficult to break into. Stone walls, steel gates, guard towers, a lighthouse, enough beds to house up to 300 people, and enough fertile land to grow crops. Apple and fig trees grow wild on the island providing fresh fruit. Seagulls and pelicans nest on the shores which can be hunted for meat. You're surrounded by water which provides protection from zombies/bandits, fish, and can be distilled into clean drinking water. And the prison itself has been updated with solar energy panels, so you won't have to rely on gas powered generators for electricity. It will require a lot of supplies (gardening tools, fishing equipment, fuel, vegetable seeds, etc) to make it self sustaining, and you'll need a lot of scavenged dried and canned foods to maintain the place for at least a year before it can be self sustaining. But you can develop a solid and safe community of refugees on that island.

He should really wait to ask me that question until after we've talked about it because my opinions don't start to come alive until after we've debriefed. I think Snyder's subtext in this movie is that dickheads would be the most likely people to survive a zombie apocalypse. The sociable people are doomed because there's always someone who is infected and doesn't tell anyone. As you accept more and more people into your group you approach 100% chance of a zombie outbreaK.
