  • The quaint fishing village of Boscastle Cornwall enchants visitors with its timeless beauty and picturesque harbour. It's cobblestone streets exudes an irresistible charm that beckons those seeking a glimpse into Cornwall's past.
Boscastle takes its name from the Bottreaux family, one of the most important families in mediaeval Cornwall. They were known to have settled in the area during the reign of Henry II (1154 - 1189) although the castle is not actually documented until the 13th century. Nothing remains of the Castle.
In 1584 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I Sir Richard Grenville, an English sailor and Captain of the galleon ‘Revenge’, built the two stone walls to protect the natural harbour.
The Boscastle flood of 2004 stands as a stark reminder of nature's power and the vulnerability of coastal communities. On August 16, torrential rain poured down on the village, causing a devastating flash flood that wreaked havoc on Boscastle, submerging buildings, tearing through streets, and trapping residents and visitors. Miraculously, there were no fatalities, but the damage was extensive. Today, Boscastle's recovery serves as a testament to the strength and resilience of its inhabitants in the face of adversity. Video footage of what happened can be seen on the Cornwall Guide website at www.cornwalls.co.uk/boscastle...
Boscastle has stunning natural surrounds, an unusual Museum of Witchcraft and Magic and a harbour that is among the most scenic in Cornwall.

This might be my favorite little village so far! I love it. When you pass a shop, I wanted you to go in and shop for me! 😂🤣

Yes it is a popular Cornish village. It has a range of small, independent shops, where you are spoiled for choice. Some gifts are quirky and unusual. Tracy saw some lovely scarves and jewellery from Italy.

Do you let the villagers know you're coming, so they stay within doors while you walk the cobblestone streets? ☺So quiet, so peaceful.

We film very early in the morning - usually just after sunrise. We have usually left before the tourists arrive. Thank you for watching and for your question :)
