It was also something they did back then, dancing was a norm, but yeah actors did often need to be good at all 3. I wish that type of dance would come back, social dancing that was classy and beautiful.
Kelly is just good enough a singer not to be intimidated by the purity of Andrews voice. Andrews is just good enough a dancer, not to be intimidated b the grace of Kelly's steps. It works.
I'm 21 now but I've been watching old movies and listening to old music ever since I was a kid. It doesn't make you weird, but unique =) Be glad you know quality entertainment when you see/hear it.
Thank you for your appreciation of the old and classic. I hope more of your generation follows. So many great tunes, ballads and love songs from yesteryear.
Funny until last night wouldn't understand this comment. I have gotten to know about Gene Kelly because of his appearance on The Dean Martin Show. Since then i have just started watching his movies. Last night i watch "Singing IN The Rain". It would of been great if they star in a movie together.
@@toniwilson1579 Welcome to a wonderful new world! I have known many of Gene Kelly's films since I was a young kid, but I kinda envy you because you've got a lot of great stuff to discover ( I know I'm responding to a year-old post). Some of my favorites are 'Anchors Aweigh', 'The Pirate', and 'It's Always Fair Weather'. Enjoy!
Pure absolute magic. How lucky we are to have these memories of when Julie and Gene worked together. I love the last shot of this sequence as they turn their backs to the camera and slowly walk away in to television history.
I remember this TV special with Julie Andrews and Gene Kelly when I was a child. It was special indeed. Julie has the voice, Kelly has the moves, and they meet each other perfectly half way.
Gene Kelly was a big heart throb of mine when I was a kid and Julie Andrews had one of the purest voices ever, so even thought Gene is a bit older here he can still outclass them all. Fabulous
Glorious moment: the radiant, beautiful , talented and irresitible Julie Andrews dancing with the formidable Gene Kelly! That's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
I have always loved Julie Andrews and she has almost always danced, but you can really see it in her work with Kelly, who is so generous and makes her the center of attention.
So many commenters realize and recognize that this is quality entertainment, on a high level, unlike the junk they are fed on TV today. If people want this type of artistic performance - why are producers producing junk? Maybe they are low class as a group. Maybe they are vulgar so produce vulgarity. When will a film maker produce TV that is of this type of quality. But there are no stars like Julie A and Gene K anymore. Can you imagine Lady Gaga playing Julie's part? It would be beyond her comprehension.
man, if these two were on dancing with the stars and american or canadian idol, they would win both at the SAME TIME! I love these two. so good together.
I don't think it's weird. I was also born a lot later than these songs and dances were created and I've always loved them. Quality music and dance are what true art is, they become classic and timeless. That's why people of different ages will continue to enjoy them indefinitely.
It really is good that we can see all those great artist, on You tube.Thank you to the all people who giver us such wonders. It make sure they will not be forgotten.
I can't imagine how many times this has been said, but will it ever get old? Probably two of the most talented musical actors ever to live, together on one stage is just magic. Why directors never begged them to do a movie together is certainly beyond me.
I really wish The Julie Andrews Hour would be Publish in DVD! Julie's acting, singing & dancing each week, her humor & creativity interacting with here amazing guests are to die for! We need shows like hers these days
Yes he is lovely and I love her movies and oh what a voice they both have. I just watched Anchors Aweigh a few days ago, a musicalmovie with Gene Kelly AND Frank Sinatra. it was made in 1945, but it was a great movie. Hope thay one day make it on dvd. Or hope that TCM will send it again so I can record it. REALLY HOPE SO =D
Not weird at all! You can help keep their memories alive I regret I didn't pay more attention in the '70s when they were all still here and young enough to be performing on TV! I was only 2 or 3 when this show with Julie and Gene aired, so I wouldn't remember it, but it's so wonderful it's on TH-cam for those of us too young or not around at the time!
Thanks for posting this! Gene Kelly had such sensitive feet! They were always stretched and finished. The sign of a great dancer! And Julie Andrews used her mouth beautifully. Small details that make them such great artists forever!
she is absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love her. in in the middle of her autobiography "home" and she has such an amazing story!!!!! ahhhh i love her
Someone's comment was it's so beautiful but will never have this again and no one will experience this type of Grace again however if they use their brain and if they get to know what beautiful and watch night it's out there you just have to find it and when you hear it you know this is it this is what we're missing today
Two greats together forever. I was living in France when Julie had her TV series so I missed this when it was broadcast. Through the years, however, I have seen this segment and always loved it. Loved the singing, the dancing, the song.
Absolute CLASS!!!!! such a world away from the garbage of today. Dont get me wrong, there are loads of talented performers in this era...but they just dont make 'em like this anymore. Such a shame.
God they dance so so so well together :) It's beautiful, and these two both have talent that just cannot be taught. Absolutely flawless :') I could watch them for hours!
Another highlight from the "Julie Andrews Show" aired Nov. 1965 on NBC, with terrific singing and dancing by J.A. and special guest Gene Kelly, who(as per Julie) also choreographed.
Things were no different back then. Everything happened behind closed doors and life was far more repressed. I'm glad to be here now then back then honestly. Grass and being greener...comes to mind..
Such a good pairing for two of the best entertainers we have had. And what a great dress for Julie. Why aren't all girls today similarly dressed ? I cannot understand it...
Argh they are so delightful. The level of skill they possess to make it all look and sound as effortless as breathing 😮💨👌❣️
From an era when stars had to sing and dance and act. They worked so hard and made it look so effortless. Wonderful!
It was also something they did back then, dancing was a norm, but yeah actors did often need to be good at all 3. I wish that type of dance would come back, social dancing that was classy and beautiful.
And oddly enough NONE of them had college degrees.
Kelly is just good enough a singer not to be intimidated by the purity of Andrews voice. Andrews is just good enough a dancer, not to be intimidated b the grace of Kelly's steps. It works.
Well said...
What a great observation!
It figures that this would be a dance number, what with Gene Kelly as special guest! Irwin Kostal 's musical arrangement was superb.
Oh the times when we had class. Gentlemen were gentle men and Ladies were ladies.
I'm 21 now but I've been watching old movies and listening to old music ever since I was a kid. It doesn't make you weird, but unique =) Be glad you know quality entertainment when you see/hear it.
I'm 21 now and can totally relate to that! Wonderful era for art and talent
Ireland is that you???
Thank you for your appreciation of the old and classic. I hope more of your generation follows. So many great tunes, ballads and love songs from yesteryear.
Great brass section just as Julie and Gene walk off.
Julie Andrews was 30 and Gene Kelly was ...53! when this sequence was created. 2 artists from 2 separate eras. WOnderful, timeless dance.
Don Lockwood and Mary Poppins... such an unlikely duo and yet, it's perfect.
Can you imagine The smooth talking Don lockwood trying to talk to Mary Poppins😂
Funny until last night wouldn't understand this comment. I have gotten to know about Gene Kelly because of his appearance on The Dean Martin Show. Since then i have just started watching his movies. Last night i watch "Singing IN The Rain". It would of been great if they star in a movie together.

My heart cries for this. Why was I born too late
I know, I love the music back then!
Me too!
I'm an embryo, yet I like this type of music.
enjoy enjoy enjoy
So many of us out there!!
I wish they played in a movie together, it would've been perfect
More than perfect. MARVELOUS!
They would have perfect in PAL JOEY.
we cannot have something like this anymore.
Agree... I'm 18 years old and I think I born in the wrong year :(
We have it, though. x
Dame Andrews had the sweetest singing voice of all time.
The days that people had talent! I love you Gene the most hansome man on film full stop!! :)
WOW
Pure absolute magic. How lucky we are to have these memories of when Julie and Gene worked together. I love the last shot of this sequence as they turn their backs to the camera and slowly walk away in to television history.
The crossover we never knew we needed
Wow!! Two beautiful talented stars!! When music was soft and tender. I miss those days.
Back when music could be called music, and dancing could be called dancing. Today’s stuff is contaminated trash!
@@raylenenielsen5943 That sounds just about right! Instead of real singers like Julie, you have caterwaulers like Mariah Carey.
I remember this TV special with Julie Andrews and Gene Kelly when I was a child. It was special indeed. Julie has the voice, Kelly has the moves, and they meet each other perfectly half way.
They sound perfect together! I wish they could have worked together more when they were younger. That would have been something to see.
I've loved Gene Kelly ever since I first laid eyes on him. 😍
I LOVE HER DRESS!..awesome music and awesome dancing too!
Can you imagine what kind of legendary children they might have had
I have always loved Julie Andrews and she has almost always danced, but you can really see it in her work with Kelly, who is so generous and makes her the center of attention.
Well observed and said !
Adorable!! Lucky Gene, lucky Julie, and lucky US that they got to perform with each other!
This Julie Andrews was even more talented than the public ever realized!!! She is and ALWAYS will be "ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS"!!!
Just lovely...Julie was as elegant and graceful as ever...Gene just killed those steps!
Every so often, I watch this video just to fall more in love with Gene and Julie all over again. So timeless, so simple, so lovely. ❤️
Che tempi meravigliosi! From Italy, Florence. Anna❤
In a time when Hollywood had magic...
So cute. Anything with Julie Andrews is magical.

yess julie is one of a kind :)
man, if these two were on dancing with the stars and american or canadian idol, they would win both at the SAME TIME!
I love these two. so good together.
Julie is a natural! The way she interacts with whoever she's onstage with is so endearing! Makes everything she does beautiful & heartwarming!
mlc HC
You right just watch her on the Andy Williams Show
These Greats, they ARE a gift. Gift for people who know, what is true art of singing and dancing.

They are so light on their feet! I wish people danced like that nowadays!
The two most graceful people ever.
What a delight to watch them at this time of my life…thank you for posting💐🥳🇨🇦
This old videos of sing and dance are pasting the smile on my face. They just so lovely and artistic. Nothing is quite like this nowadays.
She is sooo graceful. How I want to dance like that!! (And I LOVE that dress!)
Two most talented people who has ever or ever will live.
If I was a dancer in a younger time, the dress Julie Andrews wears would have been a dress I would have loved to wear. What a lovely site.
Amazing!! Omg I love her dress!!
Greatest duo in the history of Television? Um, Yes. =)
I really wish The Julie Andrews Hour would be Publish in DVD! Julie's acting, singing & dancing each week, her humor & creativity interacting with here amazing guests are to die for! We need shows like hers these days

Too bad they didnt make a movie together it would have been heavenly
Or luverly.
Or simply supercalifragilisticexpialidocious~
If having your tastes makes one weird then sign me up. This a wonderful clip. More grace and elegance in two minutes than in two hours of DWTS.
Class at it`s best.......who says it has to be raunchy to be good? I grew up watching Gene Kelly and always wish I could dance like him.
@ImSingingInTheRain15
Loving music like this does not make you weird. It shows that you are a young person with classy tastes. How wonderful for you!
This was amazing. I totally loved it. Gene Kelly is my favourite male star. I also love Julie Andews.
Why these two never did a musical together - is such a shame!!! These two are amazing apart, but together it's spellbinding!
Lord, remember when people had talent? Thank you for posting!
omg !!!! i almost fainted when i saw this! its so adorable to see them perform together!!:):)
Wow! This is wonderful! Beautiful Dance and Song, Thanks for sharing this!

A crazy dream... sing like Julie Andrews and dance with Gene Kelly... Magnificent! :D
absolutely beautiful, graceful and so very classy. the days of past.
Not weird at all! You can help keep their memories alive I regret I didn't pay more attention in the '70s when they were all still here and young enough to be performing on TV! Oh wow, I've never seen this before...but I was only 5 at the time... thanks for sharing the magic 💖
I wish people still danced like this
Not afraid to admit Gene Kelly was such a looker when he was younger.
These great perfomer's are very very woundrful !
Excellent!
Julie has always been so beautiful! Love her!
I admire her talents - I wish I could be like her someday...
Someone's comment was it's so beautiful but will never have this again and no one will experience this type of Grace again however if they use their brain and if they get to know what beautiful and watch night it's out there you just have to find it and when you hear it you know this is it this is what we're missing today
She killed it.
Absolute class by two all-time greats!
Whatever 'it' is - both of these classy people have it in great abundance.
Two of my favorite actors EVER. Julie Andrews is a queen, no doubt about it.
Two greats together forever. I was living in France when Julie had her TV series so I missed this when it was broadcast. Through the years, however, I have seen this segment and always loved it. Loved the singing, the dancing, the song.
Wonderful !! Thank you SO much for the gift, I never had any opportunity to see this amazing duo before ! ^_^
Absolute CLASS!!!!! such a world away from the garbage of today. Dont get me wrong, there are loads of talented performers in this era...but they just dont make 'em like this anymore. Such a shame.
God they dance so so so well together :)
It's beautiful, and these two both have talent that just cannot be taught.
Absolutely flawless :')
I could watch them for hours!
You are blessed to have had a grandmother like that!
Another highlight from the "Julie Andrews Show" aired Nov. 1965 on NBC, with terrific singing and dancing by J.A. and special guest Gene Kelly, who(as per Julie) also choreographed.
Lovely ! Wish people were still like this

Two greats and then they paired to be a greatest pair. Pure magic. Thanks for the clip
BEAUTIFUL. .....a hope our true ballet, jazz and tap classes are not turning into a lost art!!!*:)

Oh! great duet!
Woundeful Julie and Jene!
THnak you so much upload!
.
.
She was 37 and it was The Julie Andrews Hour in 1972-73. Wish the ratings had allowed it to be aired longer.
It's amazing how she managed to look so feminine, elegant and attractive while dressing so modestly!!!
These 2 were wonderful in their day
I love this video so much!!!! Thank You for posting it!
Such a good pairing for two of the best entertainers we have had. And what a great dress for Julie. Why aren't all girls today similarly dressed ? I cannot understand it...
Robert Price I don't know. I wish we can just bring back the clothing from the 40s and the 60s. Those clothes are so pretty.
Why aren't all men dressed in tuxedos?
this is amazing!!! i think these two are one of those "jewels" of the show business industry which comes one in the millennium!
