      @@zachalexander6955 yeah i got into a bad wreck in my 01 f150 supercrew and it didnt buckle like that. The only reason that the f150 failed the IIHS test is because they only tested the extended cab models which have no fixed B-pillar, which significantly compromises the structural integrity

    • @billgateskilledmyuncle23
      @billgateskilledmyuncle23 ปีที่แล้ว

      The supercab is the best seller, which is why they picked it. Also I had a 00 4x4 and the frame on the 4x4 had a massive cross member that strengthened the front end, the 2wd did not have this cross member and they crash test 2wd models.

    I remember how poor the 2001 Ford F-150 did in the offset test, and then how good the 2004 Ford F-150 did in the offset test.
    On February 6, 2023 around 10:15pm I was driving on a (straight) road when I slid on a patch of black ice. The back end of my 2004 Ford F-150 started to fishtail to the right and I tried to counter steer but over corrected and the back end then swung to the left and turned more the 90° to the ditch. Once the back drivers side wheel went off the road it clipped the snow and the truck started to roll about 3 or 4 times down the ditch before it struck a tree and came to a rest on its wheels.
    It knocked the wind out of me and I couldn’t breathe for about a minute. The passenger window shattered out and at some point my phone flew out of the truck. Because I couldn’t find my phone all I could do was keep the horn honking. I was also out in the middle of nowhere even though I was just 2 miles away from my house. The drivers side door was smashed in and jammed shut so once I was able to regain my strength to move I then had to crawl to the passenger side to get out. I eventually found my phone about 6 feet away in the snow. My glasses also flew off as soon as the truck started rolling and I still haven’t found them.
    Originally I thought I just went straight down the hill. I then realized how aggressive the truck was being jolted when I was trying to find my phone and saw everything put away under the seats were laying everywhere in the back seat. It wasn’t until I looked around and saw everything that was in the pick up bed scattered everywhere in the snow when I realized I actually rolled several times. You also can’t see yourself rolling. Basically all I could see through my windshield even with my glasses off was the whiteness of snow and a bunch of snow flying around as if you’re in a snow storm with no visibility. The only thing you can feel is yourself being jolted around and being pulled from your seat every time it rolled on the roof.
    I was going about 50 to 55 mph but the there was no snow at all on the road. The only snow visible was on the grass and on the trees. It was even 35°F outside which is a heatwave for Minnesota especially for February. What I eventually learned was that it was raining all day while I was asleep. So the road was originally wet but as soon as the sun went down certain spots iced up. I obviously learned this the hard way, also the entire road in the 2 miles I drove were dry, however where I slid is a spot that’s shaded with a bunch of trees.
    The truck was totaled unfortunately. I dealt with rib pain and chest pain as well as right wrist pain. I also experienced whiplash in my neck. A few days later I started to have pain on my head which probably was my water bottle hitting my head as that also flew out of the truck. Thankfully I was able to walk away from the wreck though. I didn’t even get any major cuts. The only part of my body that was bleeding was my finger because I broke my fingernail. None of my airbags deployed either since nothing hit the front end directly as well as the 2004 Ford F-150 didn’t come with side airbags yet.

      It wouldn't be drive able after crashing into a 320,000lb wall at 40mph like this one did. That applies to ALL makes and models. This test basically simulates the worst of the worst because you're essentially hitting an immovable object, if you crash into another car its going to be pushed away by the force, but a wall like this? Not so much.

    What do they mean by the old F150 did very well when it got the worst rating from IIHS

    • @nathanmcdonald610
      @nathanmcdonald610 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The IIHS is a separate agency. The 1997 - 2003 F-150's passed the government mandated frontal collision crash as did the OBS F-150's before the 1997 year model, but they failed the IIHS moderate overlap crash test (the one shown in this video). At the time, back in the early 2000's the moderate overlap was a new type of crash test that was suppose to simulate two cars hitting each other half on in opposing lanes and it redistributed crash force's to different parts of the vehicles chassis. Pretty much everyone failed it when it first came out, the 1997 - 2003 F-150's just failed in a more spectacular fashion and it was more news worthy because the F-150 is the most sold vehicle in America.

    • @jmin8400
      @jmin8400 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nathanmcdonald610 The moderate overlap began in 1994, but for pickups it was somewhat new. This video in late 2003, didn't realize that Ford as of May 2001, had finished body design work on the 2004 F-150, 9 months earlier on August 29, 2000. Early P221 crash tests were underway in Dearborn, so the timing narrowly avoid a point of no return.
      This partly resulted in a 9 month delay from market launch, switching from December 26, 2002 release to September 2003 as a 2004 model.
