Story Time... My dumbest LEGO investment is probably The Office set that I got a little over 2 years ago. It was the first LEGO set I bought as an adult after a 25 year break from building. I didn't know anything about modern LEGO or their values and I thought it was something rare and would be worth a lot of money because my local WalMart was low in stock and the website was totally out of stock. I didn't realize that they were just scarce because it was shortly before Christmas. Unfortunately, I ended up getting 6 of them at the full $120 price. After learning more about the hobby and pricing, I realized that I needed to return them, but it was beyond the return window. The worst part is that they ended up getting sold at WalMart during one of their Deals events a month or two ago for $70 I believe.😢
If buying The Office for 120 is your worst investment I'd say you're doing OK. Double your money on 3 years hold. The bad move was not buying more at 70 =)
Lessons learned...tis the nature of life and becoming better at something. I thought I'd miss the Office window but managed to grab 5 @ 70. You know where I messed up? Dioramas lol and the mini palace of Agrabah. You'll get better at it. Not every set you pick is going to be a winner. Just keep that in mind and you'll do fine 👍
4x Assembly Square 6 years back because I loved it and it was 25% off...and in those 6 years they are now worth exactly what I paid for them, but it is such a great set! and 4000 pieces $180, how could it fail? Modulars do well...usually...this is a really great modular, but it just never retired, it went on and on and on until there was millions of them. At some point I will open one and do the Rebrickable model because it is really nice. Less than 5 cents a piece...that is PHENOMINAL VALUE. And yet its worth nothing.
Bring on the 2025 data! 2024 was a fun year watching your videos and placing some bets on some of the Lego sets. Looking forward to doing it all over again in 2025! There are going to be some very interesting sets retiring this year.
Thanks for another great video! Also, I do appreciate your videos looking back on performance of previous investments. Take care and looking forward to the 2025 data!
With the Petronum, you know it is a bad set when Lego render it into an almost completely different looking set. Why oh why did they just not do translucent bricks? If they do it again correctly as they did with Kylo Ren's shuttle, it will be interesting to see fan reaction...annoyed with Lego that they bought it first time round, or pleased to see it done right... Great opportunity to also introduce a lighting kit!
The pirate snub fighter showing up in the Skeleton Crew show last week might make it move a bit more now. If there isnt much zombie stock it might actually become a good pickup.
Hey now! There's a neat Guitar Effect Device on ReBrickable that can be built with either the red or black pieces not used on the Fender Stratocaster set. I think your son would probably like that.
I'm more of a LEGO haorder than investor, but your videos have given me a bit of hope for my addiction. I ended up buying about a dozen of those light blue Harry Potter deer animal thing sets from Target at their lowest price about a couple months ago. I intended to make all of the alternate builds from ReBrickable, but my massive backlog might prevent me from doing that for a while.
I'm not investing in the diorama's but I collected them for my personal collection and love them. I bet they'll release more. Chewy is great at the discount price. Snub fighter was a similar build experience to a Speed Champion set but its Star Wars, so It will be fine. Saw the Treehouse in person at B&M for the first time, and was underwhelmed. It was overhyped.
Great video as always! Got 2 Hulkbuster sets, 1 Chewbacca set, and 3 A-Frame Cabin sets at a great discount and was able to sell them during Christmas time for a decent profit. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us!
Another great vid my friend. Was wondering where you and DG have been. It may get lower views but i appreciate the look backs and all the analytics. I need that confirmation to align with what my gut thinks lol. Can't wait to see what this yr holds. Side note - do you ever sell local? If so what platforms are you using? And did you go for the new GWP for valentines day?
Thanks for the insights, as always. Chewbacca is such a sleeper set. I got one for my collection at a 40% discount. Also, I recommend getting the Grogu with the Pram set, as it scales perfectly with Chewie, C-3PO, and R2-D2. I am already looking into this year's investment opportunities, and first on my list is the retiring Orient Express.
The Royal clamshell set is pretty neat in person. As far as a pirate snub fighter, I picked up 10 of them $18 each, but some claim it's also a Skeleton Crew set....(I want to use the pieces for something else.)😂 That ICONS of the space age is a not fun build (I could get a used set or parts and build one.) I base my multiple same set purchases on my what would I not want to pay through the nose for because I found a review after they retired.
One of my local Wally’s was blowing out the Asha’s cottage and the castle set for $10 and $25 so I grabbed two each def worth checking back if your stores have a lot of them left.
I at least went back to ebay to buy the missing first year star wars diorama sets. Trash compactor was still sold on Walmart online by Walmart at retail when I got it a few months ago. At least I think it was retail. Maybe slightly reduced.... don't remember
Just like the Nintendo entertainment system. The echo-1 will be a winner big time. Regardless of shelf life. It’s one of a kind. It’s hard, but good to keep personal emotions on what sets we personally like out of the equation. That’s killed me in the past. It seems to be more about what the general public likes and they weather they are one of a kind. They make a new Star Wars set- ship every year. Soooo many. I’m stating to think ideas, 18+ are the way to go. Appreciate all your research. Huge help.
soccer is awesome. Its my favorite sport and almost bought it at 40% but talked myself out of it. I also didn't see any value. Now i realize I don't like soccer as much as others lol. I like my sets to have value, even if its for personal. Crazy that soccer set is going for $100
One of the 3 Star Wars mechs will go for over 40 dollars. I’ll bet anything. Maybe 50 And the other 2 will go for 30+ We shall see. They are collectible.
I appreciate your hard work and dedication. Based on this list you made me feel very confident in my choice I selected this year. I only have a few on here that I bought that was not recommend but a vast majority are on the recommended list. Thanks again.
Hello guys, Thank You for the videos Kevin!! Anyone doing this from Europe? I see that in the US they can find mega sales, hence nice profit, but which stores should I look for in Europe? Thanks if anyone answers :)

At worst you will get your money back in the future if you hold to the sets. You didnt loose on it.
Just buy Bitcoin, mate 😅 much better returns and it takes up much less space. Buy Lego because you enjoy it.

Star-lords helmet. Complete winner. From one of the best films for the last decade, and an iconic piece within the signature scene of the film.

Ski and climbing center went even higher on eBay around Christmas. We picked one up for around 70 and wish we got more.
Very helpful Kevin, many thanks!

Can you do a video on the sets that retired end of 2023? I think a lot of us are still holding onto inventory from end 2023!

Always a good day when KDX uploads! I hope the dried flowers will do decent, I have 6 of them 🤔
Not picking up at least one at-at is wild... I got 3 at $600
I at least went back to ebay to buy the missing first year star wars diorama sets. Trash compactor was still sold on Walmart online by Walmart at retail when I got it a few months ago. At least I think it was retail. Maybe slightly reduced.... don't remember
Ah yes, the data I am anticipating. Glad we have plentiful of similarities
Purchase the 6 Atari for $150 each just sold all 6 for $300. Not bad for two month investment. The key get the sets on sale
Just like the Nintendo entertainment system.

Mechs .. you kidding me you cannot give them away total junk
Did the World Map and the Colosseum not also make you question your knowledge about Lego investing?
thx for the video
You do know that the green number shown by eBay isn't necessarily the actual selling price, don't you?
New lego investor here mostly SW but i bought ashas cottage for the 500 pieces 18 bc damaged box
I can find ucs Chewbacca for 95€ and also phantom menace for €27.50 they have more than 50 of both ( locally )
Locally where?
@ Europe
@federico4718 yes but where exactly, Europe is not really local.
Video was posted 15 mins ago, lasts 25 mins yet has 3 comments already 🤣👍

Show me the data!
Bought a lot of Star Wars Mechs and 332nd packs in store from Walmart for half price last week of the year. I’m happy with my decision.
Thank God for china shops :)
