Drake is the only one that took it personal, again another notch in not understanding the culture. Drake then went on to throw subliminals over the next decade while Kendrick also threw subs while saying “Say my name and I’ll appear.” Drake never said his name directly.
Then comes “First Person Shooter” where Drake asked for a Kendrick feature that he denied “Surprised when you sent that feature request. You know we got some shit ti address.” Then FPS comes out and Drake & Cole allude to be the only 2 at the top which leads to “Like That.”

Nobody had Pacs back during his beef with the eastcoast. But YG, Nip, Schoolboyq, TDE, Tyler Creator and his crew are all close in friendship. I am from Cali so I am biased as I have always been a big Kendrick fan. Drake's mistake is thinking that Kendrick is just another rapper. Kendrick Lamar is a Pulitzer Prize winner, and the first and only rapper to do so when it was only awarded to classical/ jazz musicians and/or composers. This award a'int a BET, AMA, Grammy, or Oscar award. It is one award, per year, and one reserved for music. Not even Michael, Jackson, Witney, Prince, or so many other legends ever got the award. Think about that. You never bet against true intelligence and people with talent to "create."

Kenny didn’t write slow, he has plenty music, he just don’t put it out until he wants to…..he has lots of music on his hard drive……so to assume Kendrick doesn’t work hard, is dumb…..he only took 5 years off, one time and during that time he was trying to get his busy straight, start his own label, etc. so he can get the bigger pie….he wasn’t gonna continue putting out music with a wack ass deal that artists start with…..hes also the type that make albums off inspiration, Kendrick is an artists artist

Drake didn't make a mistake. He did not have the skills and imagination to compete with Kendrick.
Kendrick is just on another level and people refuse to acknowledge that he is the GOAT. They speak glowingly of Kendrick's abilities and creativity without making that final step or conclusion.

The thing that gets me is how every little part of Kendrick's songs have some meaning to them. The titles, the cover art, the choice of producers, the samples, everything. And when he gets all of those things working together to deconstruct Drake, it's beautiful. Those tracks weren't disses, they were dissections.

Joe makes a great point about cultural currency. I didn't realize that Kendrick went super hard on Drake not being of the culture / being a chameleon and contrasted that with being super west coast throughout his own music. That's dope. I was surprised Kendrick kinda took a page out of Drake's own playbook with the back to back drops and it worked flawlessly

I do agree that Kendrick was just a bit more calculated than Drake, but Joe did contradict himself. He said a few podcasts ago around the time Cole dropped his diss that he thought either of them could get Kendrick because he doesn't think he writes as fast as them, now he's acting like he never thought that either. But whatever, overall, I agree Kendrick did his thing. My respect for both of them have went up a bit.

@ThatBoyPoppa. I agree with his overall point, I'm just calling out his cap. He's all like, "Whaa? Why would he think that?" and goes into explaining why its foolish to believe that when he thought the same. Drake definitely shouldn't have fed into podcast talk to influence his decisions, but Joe trying to play off his previous statements now because of the results is kinda lame.

Drake had two kill shots: “Family Matters” for the music and music video, and the stunt with the alleged fake daughter (which I personally believe Drake did trick Kendrick about) for pure beef tactics.
“Family Matters” had its moment totally stolen by “Meet the Grahams,” and the secret daughter plot fell down because Drake expected Kendrick to make it the crux of his attack-when Kendrick had SO MANY other angles to attack Drake on. After Meet the Grahams dropped, the daughter was like one of 20 things people were buzzing about.

Drake was WAY too casual about the Epstein-esque attack. He knew it was coming but couldn't handle the onslaught when it did. There were too many pictures, interviews, rumors, etc. in the public domain that suggested that Drake had relationships with barely legal girls. What Drake would likely be responsible of is grooming, not necessarily pedophilia. But to the public, it is all the same. He thought that Kendrick's only haymaker would be the child and left the sex trafficking things fester for a day. Not Like Us doubled-down on it. It was over.
