  • In this raw episode, I get little emotional and talk about what I was going through when I completely changed careers a few years ago. Thanks to finding Rich + Niche's Masterclass, I was able to hit the ground running and start building a business ASAP.
I talk about the course, the impact it had on me, the immense value it really does have, and how it really did completely changed my life.

Hi Ahmed, I think the best thing to do is to figure out how to help your local businesses in your area. Go and speak with them directly and ask them what they're struggling with.
You don't have money now, but you have essentially unlimited time.
For example, you might find a place that serves food/drinks like a restaurant, and you might find that they're not able to find new customers. Then think about how you would find them if you wanted to eat there - most likely through a Google search. Search for their business and take a look at what you find. Do they have filled out Google Busiess Profile? If not, help fill that out for them. Do they have a menu available online? Help them get their menu online and onto their GBP. Do they have a way for people to make a booking? Help them get a way to get a booking button onto their GBP.
Do this for as many businesses you can in your area. You will begin to learn what people need, and what skills you need to help them. You will learn s you go (TH-cam and Google are your friends here).
Now not all of your efforts will give good results, but I can guarantee you that at least one thing will work. Once you find out what works, approach that business again (who you now have rapport with) and ask them if they would like further help. Perhaps they need a website, or perhaps they need content (you can use your phone to begin with).
Repeat this process until you figure out what you like, or how you are able to help businesses in the best way you can. Then you can begin offering that particular thing as a service.
You will then offer that particular service for free in exchange for 3 things:
      1. They implement your service (this ensures it is real work)
      2. They give you feedback on how you did (important so you learn and become better)
      3. They leave you review (testimonails to help you find more people)
Once you become good at something, instead of offering it to free, you can offer it at 80% off the usual cost for that service in your country.
Once you become better, offer the service at 60% off the normal cost.
Then 40% off the normal cost.
      Then 20% off.
And finally you begin to charge full price.
It took me about a year to offer web design at full price. After that I learnt how to create content, bought a camera and continued expanding on my skillsets from there.
Remember that investing yourself is the best way to grow. Hope that helps mate and good luck!

Do you regret the time you spent in your old career?

    • @deanvelevski
      @deanvelevski  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Not at all. I think becoming an engineer taught me how to approach and solve very complex problems strategically, both from a high level and in the details. It also taught me that it can often take a lot of time and effort to find solutions to said problems.
Problem solving skills, particularly those solving skills required for long term projects are becoming less and less common in today's society - everyone want's everything now, but no one wants to figure out how to do it. Engineers are really good at knuckling down for long periods of time, and figuring out the answers.
Lastly, working at Tesla taught me how to, and the importance of being able to translate those very complex issues into language that everyday person can undertsand (clients, friends, family etc)
There's plenty more I have learnt, but those stand out as having the biggest impact on me grow into the business owner I am today :)

Kind of struggling, i finished the course and i feel ready to go but i’m not sure where to start finding clients. Do i need a portfolio first? Should i cold email? The biggest hurdle seems to be starting and i’m not seeing any clear path…

Hey Phenex Gaming, it's a bit overwhelming at the start, that's for sure but stick to it mate, I promise you it get's easier!
The way I started was reaching out to my friends and family to see how I could help them improve their businesses online, for free. You'll find that most people won't say no to free stuff!
Offer anything from optimizing their Google Business Profile, to creating digital assets for them (photos/videos with your phone), creating online content for them using Canva (100% free to start), and even creating basic websites.
If you find you don't have people in your immediate friendship/family circle, offer your services for free to businesses you find online (Instagram profiles/Facebook pages). Spend some time following businesses you think could use your help.
For both of the above examples, I recommend you approach people already having done something for them , don't turn up empty handed. I.e. - you found an instagram page that you think you could create content for, create a piece of content they could upload and send it to them as an example when you approach them.
Offering your time means that not only will you be able to practice, but you will simultaneously find what you like while building a portfolio for yourself.
R+N is now offering limited spots in the Freelance Marketer Lab. If you'd like to accelerate this learning process and learn how to land clients ASAP, you might consider signing up.
If you're in the R+N discord, hit me up and we can keep chatting mate! Cheers!

Hey Affan - Rich and Niche is one of the very few places I have experienced where everything is updated constantly. So if you decide to buy the masterclass course, it will continue to be updated as new technologies emerge! This is awsome, because you have access to the course for life!
You may instead want to consider an academy membership where you can gain access to the course materials and the community at lower entry point, but on a monthly subscription basis (with some awesome sign up perks by the way, like a chat with Rich himself!)
Both of those links are in the description :)
