  • Did you know that the town of Kamnik dates back to medieval times? Specifically, the town was mentioned in 1229 as a stop along a trade route between Kamnik and Ljubljana. Kamnik is actually one of the OLDEST TOWNS in SLOVENIA!
Today I am going to take you around this beautiful and charming town situated right on the footsteps of Velika Planina (Great Pasture). If you are in the area, that is a great place to take a day trip to!
The town itself is located only 30 minutes from the capital of Ljubljana and is the getaway to the Julian Alps to the North. Often overlooked by tourists, this town deserves your attention and in this video I will give you some reasons why you should visit!
    Slovenian:

If you are staying in Ljubljana, consider visiting the city of Kamnik! It is only a 30 minute drive. Once you are in Kamnik, head over on the Solčava Panoramic Road - one of Slovenia’s most beautiful roads: th-cam.com/video/efAuQsYWnO0/w-d-xo.html

I have been to Kamnik several times as I have a friend who lives there. The small castle in the video also has a legend behind it involving Veronica. There is a bar there called the Pod Skalo that produces their own beer brand. It is also a nice Bed and Breakfast. There is the old grad (castle) on top of the big hill that was not in the video. You can go either by road or take the trail up. Parts of Kamnik architecture was designed by Plečnik because he had his love there before he was out of money. It is a very beautiful place. One part in the court yard in the video is a history museum of Kamnik and in the main part where you started is the Kamnik Visitor's center. There is a train and a bus that you can take as well to get to Kamnik.

I had no idea Plečnik designed some parts of this town as well! And the old castle you mention, I saw it in the distance just did not have enough time to stop! Kamnik is a really cool place for those traveling to Solčava or going to Velka Planina.
