Sadly this is nothing new. I still remember the most painful years in my life was on Uni when I experienced blatant and hurtful racism for the fist time in my life at the hands of some black students. (mind you I have been in a predominantly white primary and high school and never have I ever felt discriminated against on school). UNTIL... first year on Uni I never knew people could be so disrespectful the way they look down on colored people the hateful words against the colored community the entire experience still haunts me at times. Very painful indeed. There is still a lot of work to be done in this country. And I am sorry to say it but with my experience black South Africans are the most racist people I have ever come across. To answer the interviewers' first question: Coloured people are a seperate racial group and thus can be discrimated against. Speaking about her race alongside her economic status, supposed areas she grew up in and education in a derogatory manner is racist and classist. Both legally and historically coloured people are not seen and treated as black people and thus its important to call out these racist utterances that can be made by other people of colour. These remarks must be met with the same might of the law as if it was any other racial group.
The term 'coloured' is racist. A convenient umbrella term to cover anyone who is not predominantly black or white. So myriads of smaller racial groups just get lumped together under this umbrella because their skin is the colour of coffee. Khoisan people, Griqwa people, Muslims, Arabs, Indians, mixed race people etc. Too sad!

Many South Africans go through this humiliation in work places all over SA. These entitled people in management positions trample on those that are not of their race.

I hope those flight attendants, know that the country is behind them. I was so impressed how they handled it in the face of real antagonism. There is nothing wrong with coming from the Plain. Using it as a derogatory term to attack that young lady and, in effect, an entire community, actually says more about what kind of person Mkhize is.
She should also apologise to her late father, who would probably be utterly ashamed of her dragging him into her behaviour.

Sadly this is nothing new. I still remember the most painful years in my life was on Uni when I experienced blatant and hurtful racism for the fist time in my life at the hands of some black students. (mind you I have been in a predominantly white primary and high school and never have I ever felt discriminated against on school). UNTIL... first year on Uni I never knew people could be so disrespectful the way they look down on colored people the hateful words against the colored community the entire experience still haunts me at times. Very painful indeed. There is still a lot of work to be done in this country. And I am sorry to say it but with my experience black South Africans are the most racist people I have ever come across. I pray that the young lady finds peace and gets professional help to get over this traumatizing experience.

One day we need to have a conversation about these new terms of "black people" and "white people" because I have not seen a person who is black in colour or white in colour. We need a conversation about these terms.
To answer the interviewers' first question: Coloured people are a seperate racial group and thus can be discrimated against. Speaking about her race alongside her economic status, supposed areas she grew up in and education in a derogatory manner is racist and classist. Both legally and historically coloured people are not seen and treated as black people and thus its important to call out these racist utterances that can be made by other people of colour. These remarks must be met with the same might of the law as if it was any other racial group.
