    wouldn't overlaps be great for a narrow team so that the fullbacks give you width? and underlaps for a wide formation so that midfielders and such can run into the space you make by stretching the field wide?

    I often use underlaps as sick off my wingers/inside forwards getting free with no support and either shooting at the side netting or running it along the touchline straight to the gk at the ear post. Underlaps allows them to hold it up and play in my strikers/att mids that are hopefully chasing them down the middle.

    I always have 1 of each, overlap right, underlap left. And have a target man upfront on support, a poacher and an inverted forward/winger on left or right.
    Centre midfield on attack on same side as inverted winger and target man.
    These 3 work great together.... A wide midfielder hits cross early or lays off to overlap FB. It allows a full range of attack types

  • @Fives179

    Nice video, I never saw the nuance before that it will hold the team play up. So from that, it would probably be best to use overlap when your best players on the attack are your FBs/WBs, as opposed to your midfield, and vice-versa?

    Great video! I'm on a Liverpool save currently. I feel like my current tactics don't leverage the runs in behind by the Inside Forwards (Mané and Salah, on Attack mentality). Going to experiment and see if this instruction could get more out of them as well as a marauding central midfielder (Box-to-Box midfielder).

    If you choose IWBs and select look for overlaps, in the build up he stays narrow, helping to maintain possesion. But, further forward the IW will carry the ball inside bringing the opposition FB with him, creating a space where the IWB will look to find. Your IWB needs good decision attributes.

  • @yellowscarlightningscream8347
    @yellowscarlightningscream8347 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you want to your FB/WB to bomb forward and become the teams leading creative source very similar to Liverpool with Trent/Robertson, YOU NEED TO SELECT LOOK FOR OVERLAPS regardless of your WB on support. I have thousands of hours experimenting and came to conclusion that you need to select that option. Only CWBs are natural overlapping players without needing to be told through team instructions

    • @StingerNeilD
      @StingerNeilD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll politely disagree mate 👍 its a team instruction to look for overlap it's not a player instruction to go on the overlap

    • @yellowscarlightningscream8347
      @yellowscarlightningscream8347 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@StingerNeilD I agree with you. But the game engine for some reason doesn't reciprocate the same logic. The analysis report in the game clearly shows that WB/FB fail to overlap with player instructions set as well. They work only with team instructions on.

    • @R9Allan
      @R9Allan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been testing a ball possession tactic for at least a week, I'm dominating my league (Brazilian Serie B) and I don't understand why the engine keeps forcing crosses even with everything removed and with focusing only on passes.
      You must be right on this point, it is very difficult to master artificial intelligence, there are many loopholes.

      @@R9Allan Analysis reports are a great barometer of checking your own tactics to see how effective it is. If you want to reduce the number of crosses than go to player instructions and set passing direction to short and take fewer risks

    Question, why have i played this game so much, and still feel like eveything i do in that game doest work. thousands of hours trying to see what the match engine is showing me and it just doest make any sense. Little adjustmens in game to close the winger down faster or mark him a bit tighter? he runs in behind. drop your line one click back for your team to cover that, they drill wonder goals in from thirty yards. close the passer down a bit more it must be that, no no its not that, still getting beat 5-2 by the bottom of the league at home. Reload. Im almost done with this game for the simple fact of. These tactics have a specific code, like a rubiks cube and i dont know if i can be arsed. Not one video of anybody litrally just telling you how it is. all vauge vids sorta telling you but not. EG, how you set your pressing up on your back four? just tell us, 1cb on standed press the other on less press, while your full backs press full? or leave them all on standed press and just tweak in game? what are the actual basics.

    • @finding_aether
      @finding_aether 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, Football Manager is a risk management game. No matter what instruction you give, it will reduce the probability somewhere but increase the probability of another action occuring. It is up to you to decide which risk to mitigate and which risk to take depending on your team and your opponent's team. Also every team is different with different players. You play against the invincibles with T.Henry upfront or play against a Stoke with Peter Crouch upfront, you will have to play differently. Its not about mitigating all risk, its about mitigating the risks that are most important.
      For example, lets look at defense. Think to yourself.. how is the opponent going to score. . Let's say you have determined that your opponent's biggest threat is that they have alot of long shot specialists, but no pace upfront, perhaps you can get your defenders to be more aggresive with stopper or a high line to block them. If there is a Theiry Henry reincarnate on the other team, you maybe might consider putting one or two men in DM to block the space instead and let your defenders hang back. Of course using any of this trick will mean space elsewhere.. which space is of course up to you..
      Put it this way..If their DM is a Robbie Savage, do you really need to mark him? Free up the guy to do something else, maybe press a centreback. But if their DM is a Pirlo, maybe flooding your midfield is a good idea. However, Robbie Savage is still a professional footballer, and every once in a while, he is still very capable of scoring a worldie or pick up a delicate chip over your backline..its up to you to take that chance. Most people will risk it🤣
      For offense. Similarly look at the report, and look to where opposition is weakest. If they have short cb, float some crosses in. If they like a high line, some balls over the top will be nice. If they have a rookie player at rightback, pit him against your worldclass winger. Etc.
      If you are unsure, you can look at scouting reports to find out the major sources of their attacks and goals come from and where the concede the most chances.
      Its a brainy game...Of course, if you really can't be arsed...you can go looking for tactics on the internet that win every game by explioting weakness in a game engine and mindlessly take Sunderland to CL final in 4 seasons.. 🙃 plenty of them around.

      @@finding_aether thanks for the response, I never use guides or help to effect my gameplay or discovery of the game. I understand the game to a degree, but you just get a bit frustrated when by now I should know exactly what each button press does on .y players, when I say I can't be arsed its such a time sink and I've put enough in .

    • @boomshanka4667
      @boomshanka4667 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@finding_aether one more thing, I think you do see your tactics being correct in the match engine in real time. You start to see alot more slick passing and more events you may not of seen before. That's when I know there good.

    • @finding_aether
      @finding_aether 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boomshanka4667 haha, well, don't give up. Even mourinho has trouble getting players to do what he wants. There are so many factors including player preference, player attributes etc. Flair, teamwork, aggression, decision, anticipation, concentration etc. Any of these can cause a player to screw up. You can ask a player to close down someone but maybe he loses focus, or he is lazy, or he things be is better than the team, or his opposite number is iniesta reincarnate and your player is just incapabale of reading the other player's movement.
      There is also tactical familarity to consider. Just because you ask a player to do something does not mean he is physically capable to do it. Sometimes u just need different players. Or use a strategy that allows your players to shine.
      Another path you can go the Arsene Wenger' route of just keep things simple and players make most of the decision... with all the consequences good and bad of cuz.🤣
      I mean there is wisdom in this.. a midfield of CM atk CM def and CM support with maybe a target man is probably gg to work 90% of the time with 90% of teams. A team with a false nine, paired with a regista and mezzala and ramdeuter is gonna suit way less players in way less situations. .
      If you are having trouble.. A captain of my former team likes to say "anything more than 3 steps is bound to fail".i suggest first keep your initial gameplan simple and make small changes during game.
      Also learning to read the gane is important. Everyone has a plan until u get punched in the face
      Then during the game, maybe after 15- 20 mins or 45 mins... and look at stats/highlights/assitant report and figure out maybe 3-4 things on how you can help your team. R u missing passes? Or your wingers are finding it hard to support the striker? maybe narrow the attack. Or is there lack of space? Maybe you should play a deeper line and wider attack. Are u dominating in the air? Maybe play for setpieces. Is there a player of theirs having a bad game? Maybe u can target him. Is there a player of yours having a bad game? Ask how you can give him more support. Like.. Is the oppostion overloading a player of yours? Is your striker having support? Should you play the striker deeper or push a player up to be more attacking? Again. Don't change too much or u may leave gaps elsewhere.
      Also i know its tempting. But punishing player for bad performance is not always the correct thing to do. You need to know the reason. Sometimes he is complacent, lazy or lost focus.. maybe. Yes. But If he was trying his best but failed, or maybe he hit the post 3 times... gotta earn your management stripes in these cases. Patience is key.
      Also, Good luck.🤣🤣 rng is rng.

    • @finding_aether
      @finding_aether 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boomshanka4667 about match engine. Sometimes it is bad. Even the developers admit to it. 🤣
      But patience is important. Even ferguson and klopp needed years to make their team work. As time goes by your team will get better as u get better dynamics (between players), better tactical familarity, better players and you also get to know your team better.
      Or as i said, u can go the AW way and let them do whatever they want and maybe win the double in 1 season (i think bergkamp- anelka/wright upfront broke the match engine that year🤣🤣🤣). It may fail or it may suceed, eitherway it will be spectacular🤣🤣🤣
