You did it again, Neil. Great griddle, great breakfast and great presentation. And, as always, great camera work, Amy. You two have got it going on. Congratulations to your daughter on her cheerleading win!
I've had mine a few weeks weeks now and love it. My first few cooks have been in 50deg rainy weather with no problems in maintaining temps. I'm looking forward to summer cooks.
Great video, Neal. Congratulations to your daughter! Breakfast looks great and we learned that we probably are cooking our bacon too high. We didn't think it would crisp up on a lower temp.
Just to help other new owners: I did season one layer of avacado oil on my new Slate but I doubt it needed it. Did a couple cooks since then and the griddle has been very non-stick. Even the scrambled eggs had no issues whatsoever. I do believe it's preseasoned enough. That being said - I really wanted to wash it before use so I put some soapy water on and scrubbed. That is why I decided to season it once - in case that soap removed some seasoning. Hope that helps!
Fantastic MID-NITE CHOW RUN. Great job Neil and Amy you two do awesome videos and recipes and have a great time together. Keep up the great videos and recipes, we appreciate the work you all do around there. Fred.
I thought about the traeger but im gonna go with the weber slate 3 burner. The 4 is massive. The traeger after all the stuff you ll need was like 1200 bux. A lil too steep
I’ve got to stop watching your videos at night. Dang it now I’m hungry again. Breakfast is my favorite meal. Great griddle cook as usual. Super video. Thanks.
Great looking breakfast! Hash Browns, Pancakes! How about a video of the perfect griddle. This one has the best griddle, this is the best heat distribution, the best grease catch placement etc
Great page & content! Looking at buying the Slate, trying to decide between the 30 or 36”. 30” would be about the same surface area as my 4 burner Weber grill, but the 36 is tempting. Subscribed!
Well I appreciate that...I would say this..if you can afford the price and space...100 36in burner...just like in real-estate....space is hard to find...may not need it everyday...but when you do...its nice to have
been looking at these. I will buy before blackstone. Just apreffrnce. Probably not a lot of diff between most of them. Definitely season all before use and after cleaning. Great Video!
I feel the same way. Personally I sand a brand new preseasoned pan until smooth and season with flaxseed oil until I'm happy and reseason every time I use it.
Love your videos. Speaking for myself, the best way I found to make my hash-browns was to either bake in foil or slow boil my whole potatoes ahead of time (planning...I know) cool them, refrigerate for a couple of hours, peel and shred them. Sounds like a lot of work but not so much. Then either use them or freeze for later. Cooked and perfectly crispy every time.
Excellent breakfast Neal! I totally could tell the middle runs hotter as you mentioned. It's so evident when you flipped the bacon. Really a great review as always!
thanks so much for this video. I have enjoyed watching you channel and I like your honesty about Weber's claim that this is an "End to end even heat griddle". Please let me know what griddle that you have tested has the most even end-to-end heating
Is the Weber worth the significant increase in cost over the Blackstone? I’m not an expert on Blackstone griddles, but it looks like the Weber costs several hundred bucks more than a comparable one from Blackstone. I assume that you’re using your oven to keep all of that food warm. If you ever want a recommendation for a high quality chafing dish like the ones hotels use at their buffet breakfasts, I can do that. I got one on Bezos’ website a few years ago and definitely a heavy duty, commercial product and it wasn’t crazy expensive. It would easily hold everything you cooked here. Since the heat is coming from steam underneath the pan, you never have to worry about your food drying out. It runs on Sterno cans, so you can use it anywhere, which is convenient.
Your vid’s are the best. Thanks for the time you commit to help us make an informed decision. Your reviews are swaying me to the Traeger. Really disappointed in the hot zones of the Slate. I love the lower temps of the Slate but coming from a BS, I’m due for more of a zones and even cook.
Thanks for the video...pretty much made my decision for me. I currently have a 36 BS that while the cooking surface is still in great shape the rest of it is falling apart, peeling, rusting etc. Plus i dont care for the rear grease trap. Was considering the Halo 4burner but now I think the Weber Slate looks like a better choice. I will say not being able to use the lid while cooking is disappointing at this price point.
Great video. I love my 36 inch slate, I am about to do my 3rd cook on it. Weber gets stock on the 36 but it doesn't last. I suggest anyone who wants a 36 to call them, don't use the website. I ordered mine on April 12th, they had 5 in stock and the website said out of stock. I have seen the slightly high spot you reference, but when I actually cook it does not show up in my food. I have filled it with bacon from edge to edge twice, I even had bacon on either side of the grease trap.. Only those pieces and the front right corner were low After 2 cooks I feel good enough about the temperature and the knobs that I don't even care about my IR thermometer. Thank you for your service to our country and your service to us cooks :)
I have the 36” slate also. Love it so far cooks very even. What dial setting are you using mostly? I’m finding a little higher than in between low and medium is my sweet spot so far.
I'm a little bit new at the griddling and I do love my outdoor 36-in griddle and my indoor 21 inch griddle. One day I'm going to have to try making multiple items at one time like this. So far while I am new at it I have been only cooking a whole surface full of one item at a time. As a single guy it doesn't really matter too much sometimes, but I definitely would love to make a whole breakfast at once or some whole meal at once instead of making them item by item.
Great video and awesome cooking as always. Now let's do a comparison between the Webber Slate Griddle + Camp Chef + Blackstone. Big Ups to you guys from Weymouth Massachusetts.
Yup, I'm sold on getting a slate! I was already looking at it and watched your review video and this one. I'm very impressed compared to the first one they put out.
Same here brother. Just ordered one up @ Ace Hardware. If you order it from Ace, not only will they assemble it, but if you live fairly close to the store, they will deliver it for free.
@@BigLob2 that's exactly what they did for me. I've had mine for about a month and love it! Easiest griddle I've ever cooked on and pretty easy to clean.
I like your conclusion that even though there are some hot spots on the top, once you load it up with food it seems to even out. That seems to be the same thing that happens on my Evo. Good video, and I stand by my prior comments that your hashbrowns always kick my hash brown's fannies! Nice work Neal.
Thank you for this great vid. I'm retiring from the Air Force next month after 27 years and my family is coming out to celebrate, so I'm thankful to have a griddle to cook for 15 people. Question: what is that beveled scraper you used?
Trying to decide between this and the Traeger Flatrock for my first griddle. Would love to hear your honest opinion on the best one. Also, it seems there is some marketing terms being used surrounding the “slate” that it is rust resistant. Is it really any different than other brands?
I’ve done a lot of research and looked at the grills in person. Without a doubt, Weber 36 inch slate is the way to go. The extra room with it end tables and all the accessories make it an incredibly efficient cooking experience. I ordered mine at Ace Hardware. They will assemble and if you live close enough to the store, within 10 miles, they will deliver for free.
Nice review II like the demonstration of the hot spots. I've seen before the slicing of sausage from the tube. Really nice idea. I am a Jimmy Deans fan.
I have had my Weber 4 burner 36 inch for about 9-10 months, version 1 not the new one. My hot spot is the far right side which seems easier to manage the griddle temp than it is with yours being the hot spot in the middle because it is effecting both left and right. Both version 1 and 2 are keepers in my book. can't see myself ever cooking on a Blackstone as long as weber is out there. Have you seen the price of the Blackstone Pro Series? Over a $1,000 on the Pizza Oven and Griddles closer to $1500! Crazy
I just ordered the 36 inch Slate . Its on backorder but i cannot wait to get it . Ive been a lifeling Blackstone guy but the looks of the Slate has pulled me in lol . Great video brother guys !!
Great breakfast cook review! I read between the lines on your first review and got one. Love the build and the features. I seasoned with just one thin coat of grape seed oil then cooked a bunch of onions with avocado oil covering the whole surface. The onions did cook even. I am also getting the hot spot in the middle but turning down the middle burner lower than the rest mitigates. Just did big breakfast and my sausage was cooked even as were the two hashbrown piles. Low temp cooking is easy to achieve (320), and I am already able to ramp up and down temps and dial in even though this is my first griddle. Already so nonstick I have trouble flipping my OE eggs because they slide around so easy. After higher heat for hashbrowns I turned to low and did scrambled eggs with no sticking and no browning which is great because several in family do not want any browning on eggs. The surface of this griddle is primo. As good as my premium smooth American cast iron and French carbon steel skillets. I am thinking the wind protection may be one reasons why the Slate has a little less even heat than the old 28" model. However, living in Nebraska wind protection is important. Had a stiff breeze this morning and no issues getting plenty of even heat.
Good video guys,, congratulations to your daughter ! You are making me hungry. It's time here in Montana , I can use my Blackstone any day now. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA......
would you consider reviewing the walmart expert grill griddle. I have one and I think its great but I would love to know your opinion. just looking out for the budget minded backyard cooker.
Looks amazing grill. But if you had the choice of other Weber grills like the Family Q, Genesis etc or Slate what would be the better for a Family of 3. Thanks.
Thats a tuff one...one is gas...one is a gas griddle...if you only could have one...the gas grill and buy a griddle insert....that way you get best of both worlds...and more functional
Hash Browns-Shred raw potatoes with a box grater, microwave on high to jump start the potatoes cooking. While hot, stir in bacon grease, salt & pepper to taste. Put on buttered griddle. As you flip them, re-butter the griddle to help them brown.
So what’s do ya think, is the upgrade worth the price difference vs the previous version? Does the edge to edge on previous model overcome the nice extras/shelves on the Slate?
Great looking hashbrowns Neil. We have never been thick pancake people. We love a thin sourdough flat Jack's. Looks like the weber is a keeper. I still enjoy my original camp chef griddle. There is no better was to cook bacon.
I said I thought Weber missed the mark on this one, but perhaps not as much as I thought. Actually seeing the cook may have changed my mind. The ability to stay fairly low temps is phenomenal. Hot spots seemed to not be too far off once food hits the surface. The only negative I can really see if the dumb temperature dial. Go Army.
Do you think this 30 is enough for my family of 4 ( two small kids ) and time to time parties for Smash Burgers.. seems like i might use this griddle the most for breakfast for my family and maybe tacos for family/party
Nice review and good cook, but the best part of the whole vid is you telling about getting all emotional about your daughter's success and the driver taking a jab at you about getting teared up about a new toy..............🤣
With all the griddles you use, do you make "maps" of each one to remember hot/cool zones for later? Also, you need a large funnel and glass jar with lid to store that bacon grease in the fridge... "If you don't have bacon grease, how can you make delicious fried chicken livers." (My rendition of Pink Floyd's "The Wall".) LoL
Thats a tuff question..I thought they were the same price...for a 3 burner it as 749-800 ....the trager is 899...i could be wrong...but you could be asking about the 4 burner weber and traeger doesn't have that...for me...since day one..its been traeger on top...and weber 2nd...so you cant go wrong
@@TheFlatTopKing thanks for the quick relay, it’s crazy because I was leaning that way or camp chef gridiron 36” I think that how you spell it. Any ways I appreciate you responding. God Bless”
Tell me Neal - Do you purposely set your flat tops off-level so the oil/grease pools at one side or in a corner? I'm anal about trying to make my flat top griddle perfectly level, but now I'm second-guessing the wisdom of that. Other than having cracked eggs run away... Thanks. Cheers!
Well my deck runs that way nationally...I have to move units so often I just got used to it....However it can absolutely help out....I like the idea of the oil pooling and having it if needed...or to even shallow fry
I’m deciding between Webber slate 36”, blackstone omnivore 36” and camp chef 36” Anybody have any experience with these brands? Which one would you pick?
Hey, can u tell me the entire measure from this grill? I only find the measure from the plate itself… I need the whole lenght with this big side tables. Thank u 🙋🏼♂️
Yes...i am out of town...I wil be back next week...can you comment agian on any video so I dont loose the comment...if you respond to this it shows up as a response and not a new comment
Random thought, do you think it has more separate hot spots because of the extra 2” making the burners be slightly more spread out hence wider gaps in the hot zones?
I have not had the best of luck with the ones I have bought..I think what I want out of a griddle Blackstone does not offer...then name is power...Blackstone...you think of griddle..Not until Weber and Traeger came out with something I think the Blackstone struggle with...even heating and low temps...non of mine have been close to that idea....But that does not stop them from selling the crap out of them...

Great job Neil. It was very interesting in seeing you make breakfast on your griddle using the different techniques.

Can I have your honest opinion, based on all your reviews which 36 inch griddle would purchase? Under 1K
@@twoods555 that’s a tuff one because you mentioned 36in. The top would be Weber. Very very close would be Halo.
@@TheFlatTopKing thanks for the quick relay, it’s crazy because I was leaning that way or camp chef gridiron 36” I think that how you spell it. Any ways I appreciate you responding. God Bless”
I have one more question before I make a putt today. What do you think about the camp chef gridiron versus the Weber slate?? 30 or 36 inch.
Love the videos.
Go NAVY!
THANKS for feeding us!
This or the traeger?
too soon
One killer looking breakfast
thanks bud
Great job, good cook, looks banging.
Thhanks so much. Bought one today
Hope you enjoy it!
In your opinion how does this compare to the weber genesis with the full size insert?
yes...i think its actually the same...
I guess I am lucky, my new Blackstone is within 10 degrees edge to edge but it does get very hot so I have to be careful.
I’m deciding between Webber slate 36”, blackstone omnivore 36” and camp chef 36”
Anybody have any experience with these brands? Which one would you pick?
Yes. Go with the Weber slate 36 inch. You won’t regret it so many little things make it great.
Just need a 17” travel version!
Random thought, do you think it has more separate hot spots because of the extra 2” making the burners be slightly more spread out hence wider gaps in the hot zones?
Honestly I do not know...I think the heat would spread more efficiently but thats above my paygrade
I saw another cooker's video that you might have to season. The griddle or grill at least 3 to 5 times is that true?
I did one coat and have been cooking on it ever since. Surface is very smooth and non stick
Do you think the 36" is worth splurging for over this 30"?
If you need the room, ya.
Go w the 36”
I notice you have demo a lot of griddles. How does this fair with the Black stone
