    As a now retired main line driver I used to 'sign' York to Scarborough. I loved the semaphore signals and Falsgrave Box. Wonderful memories.

      I took some night shots of the Falsgrave box. Only later did I find out that the shots were taken in the last 3 hours of it's usage.
      Part of the gantry was re-located to the north end of Grosmont station.

      It is a lovely line, still mechanically signalled I believe. The Whitby Middlesbrough line should never have been closed. I have walked the line from Whitby to Scarborough.

    Stunning old video, the old line from Scarborough to Whitby was one of the most scenic in the country. If not the best. I lovs steam trains! ❤

    Great video on how things where 😊 Shame the madness of politicians chopped it all up 🥲

      Actually it was the lack of use that chopped it all up. The private car was the biggest culprit.

    Incredible and wonderfully historic film, thank you for sharing. A Bucket-list trip for me to visit this area and to support the NYMR.

    Wonderful video. I always feel emotional watching those wonderful steam locos that served us so well for so long . A little glimpse into an almost forgotton world mourned by me and many others in my age group . Many think we have come a long way since thise days , but have we really or have we lost what really matters ?

    WONDERFUL! Steam trains mean childhood memories, Will Hay in Oh Mr Porter, and the great Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson on their way to uncover some ghastly mystery on the Moor!

    Oh God, that was upsetting to watch. I witnessed the Whitby Moors Special as it approached Ravenscar. I was just little Lad. The different rhythms of the 3 & 2 Cylinder Locomotives echoing was unforgettable. I hate Beeching but also, am angered by Barbara Castle who, could have saved this and so many other lines - if she only had a clue what it was she was supposed to be doing.

      Out of interest:
      A retired gentleman, called Major Lacey, and his wife - from Robin Hood's Bay - put flanged wheels onto their Land Rover and ran it up and down the track after the line had closed. A very small victory.

    • @AussiePom
      @AussiePom หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gp3829 That's why they said it simply to get votes as they no more interest in keeping open than the previous government had but as always people fall for it.

      @@AussiePom It wasn't sad to close down these uneconomic lines. Circumstances change even over a few months as the lines lost traffic to road transport. They can't be kept open at taxpayers expense just to titilate a few fanboy foamer rail buffs.
