Love the seasonal constellation videos. Its a great way of learning the night sky with no equipment needed.... except a bow. 😂 that cracked me up. Thanks for another amazing video. Clear skies and stay warm
Tsula, you crack me up! 🤣 So how cold was it that you had to go inside so you didn't die?! Too funny. This was very informative AND entertaining. I hope there isn't going to be a test -- that was a LOT of great information! Thank you for a terrific video and giving me a ton of stuff to look at (if these clouds part before the spring constellations rise, that is).
Greg: Thank you! Oh my god, it was so cold. That night it was about -7 which in retrospect seems really nice because after that it got very, very cold, -28 and I was not able to go outside at all. Yes, there will be a pop quiz coming soon! You better watch out putting ideas into my head.
@@tsulasbigadventures -28!! Good grief! I thought we had it bad in northern VT with temps in the low single digits for a few days. Brrrrr... Oh, oh. I haven't been on the receiving end of a quiz for many years! 😵💫
Really enjoyed your impression of Artemis, nice touch. Just for the record, since German cities have started to dial down the light pollution for energy saving measures, we get to see the brighter constellations in the inner city, so I can report being able to see the Orion Nebula with my naked eye from a city center ("officially" still Bortle 7, might have gone down to 6 now). Looking forward to your Spring Constellations video.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. That's very impressive that German cities are taking the initiative to reduce light pollution such that you can see the Orion Nebula naked eye! Sadly, where my house is in rural Montana just the opposite is happening, and it is getting more and more light polluted every day. Right now, it's still a Bortle 3 but I would guess in five years it will be Bortle 4. I have written to the City Council about it but they don't seem to care.
@@tsulasbigadventures Tsula when you use GEM28 and it is at zero position where is the dovetail saddle? If I lay my iPhone on top of it so the phone is parallel to the sides of the saddle my Compass app reads 300 degrees. The reason I ask is I have to change the saddle to accomodate a Lossmandy plate.
@@mvdeehan Martin: Short answer is that I use a carpenter's level in the saddle. Long answer is; that mount has given me such anguish. They claimed it was cone error and I went to tremendous lengths to learn about cone error and how to get rid of it. Then one night it just started making this horrible grinding noise and stopped slewing and that was the first time I had to mail it back. They didn't charge me anything but they had it for such a long time. Finally, I got it back and late last year I had a chance to take it out and see if it worked again and can you believe that the top of the mount slammed into the RA knob the first time I tried to slew it and it wouldn't move after that? So, I had to mail it back a second time! They just finished working on it last week and said it would be mailed back to me today. So, I haven't used it for a long time. But as I recall I used a carpenter's level in the saddle and moved the mount until the bubble was centered and that was how I made sure I was at zero position. I never tried putting my phone in the saddle to read the compass. If the compass is set to true north shouldn't it read 360 or 0 if you are facing true north? I have PS Align Pro on my phone and with that app you can place your phone in the saddle and it has a "no polar scope" alignment option that will tell you if you are pointed at the north celestial pole. When the mount comes back at the end of the week. I'll take it out and see what my compass says when I'm in the zero position.
@@tsulasbigadventures I thought the same Tsula i.e. at zero it might read 0 facing North. That was why I asked actually. Sorry about your mounts problems. I am waiting on delivery of my 2nd counterweight tonight but it is raining here 😀. I’ll check balance and see how it goes. I will look at PS align pro too. Thanks Tsula!!

@@mvdeehan You're welcome. When I get mine back I'll put my phone on the saddle and let you know what I find out about that.
