I’ve bought the 20x70ed and 25x100ed Oberwerks and Oberwerk parallelogram not at the same time obviously lol Both binoculars with individual focus for astronomy you won’t get the c.a. the bright objects look so white at least to me . Oberwerks has a great review on birder binoculars as well as SD binos the most expensive. I’ve had Leica and Zeiss which I agree are beautiful but much more money . As always I really enjoy your videos you have a great way of explaining things👍
Another thorough and interesting equipment review - and as someone who follows the Hollywood news, I was furthermore interested to see Oberwerk is engaged in a collaboration with Angel Studios, including a promotional binoculars giveaway.
@@tsulasbigadventures I'm an armchair mountain-climber. It looks like fun if you're not suffering from headache, nausea, exhaustion and breathlessness all at once, and the scenery is breathtaking thanks to the 4K helmet-cameras. The region of Baluchistan around K2, the world's deadliest peak (it kills one of four climbers who tries it), is a vast brown waste, devoid of vegetation.
I was hoping you’d do bino review and you picked the brand I’m interested in. Currently looking at the Oberwerk BT82. Pricey, but like the magnification and size compared to a telescope. Found an antique Birns&Sawyer tripod which I restored and made a parallelogram. Now I just need to make the jump and buy binos😅. Thanks for your reviews. Doing a great job.
I use and love my 10 x 50 Nikon binoculars when I'm out observing with my telescopes. But I prefer to hand hold them. I have never been comfortable using binocs on a tripod. But I heartedly agree with you that folks new to astronomy should start using binocs first before investing in a telescope. Also, I had a recent experience with Oberwerk. I bought one of their tripod legs for a refractor mount. It was way gorgeous, but I quickly decided it was too big (and heavy) for my needs. So, I sent it back. Linda with the Oberwerk staff was fantastic to work with and she quickly set up my return and just as quickly as they received it on return, she back refunded my purchase price. Clear skies, Tsula!
I never use a tripod with 10x42 but at 15x70 the hand shake becomes intolerable. Oberwerk's customer service is excellent. They are a great company to deal with.
great information. it is hard for a new astronomer to not dive in to the biggest scope we can afford (even though we cant afford the tripod). i wish i would have listened to this advice without wasting a bunch of money.
Thank you. It is tempting to go out and get big aperture but then so many telescopes end up in closets because some people fail to consider how difficult it is to move around a large telescope and other considerations.
Very good I enjoyed this video very much! I have the Oberworks 20X80 on a parallel mount with the Red dot finder Oberworks offers great combination. Gives you another dimension to enjoy astronomy. Beyond their products they are great people to do business with.
Hi Tsula, great review and very interesting to have such good quality at a reasonable price. I frequently use binoculars when the skies are poor, as they are quick to use and don’t require the work and setting up needed for a telescope, especially when the sky where I live is so unreliable! Oberwerk manufacture an ED range of binoculars and the price , although obviously more expensive, is very competitive with other brands and models. I will certainly make a note of these for the future as I also like to use them for nature viewing at long distance Thanks for the informative review, there’s nothing better than a “hands on” recommendation! Enjoy you viewing! 🤗✨🌙✨
Hi Lynn: Thanks. It's great to have something so light and easy to set up when conditions are poor. I would be interested to know how the ED version is if you end up getting them let me know. Take care.
I have the same binoculars after I saw them at N.E.A.F. 2024. I do keep the neck strap on, so when I'm attaching it to my mount in case in drop them. Then I just tuck the neck strap out of the way. You should go to N.E.A.F. We travel from Clovis, CA. It's worth the trip.
Great and timely review! I was just looking at the Celestron Skymaster Pro ED 15x70, I think they're new models from Celestron and will also accept 1.25" filters on the eyepiece side too. Would be fun to compare these two. The Celestron is about $100 less than the price you quoted for the Oberwerk.
I own the low end model Celestron Skymaster that was $69. It has a lot of chromatic aberration. But since the Pro model has ED glass it shouldn't have that problem. By the way, I was thinking about you. I tried three different methods of attaching the starsense to my Dob. The first one failed using just one screw to attach where the finder scope dovetail had been. Then I bought the 3D printed shoe but the screw holes don't line up with the starsense bottom. I don't know how that happened. I used the CAD instructions from the CN link you told me about. Next I taped the starsense to my Dob with gaffer tape and actually that worked but I would need a lot of tape and it's not practical to tape it every time if I ever want to move the starsense around. So, finally today the magnets that you said you use came in the mail after a very long wait. It looks like it's going to work but unfortunately it's snowing. So, I have to wait to find out whether the magnets will work as well as gaffer tape works but when I was putting the magnets onto the bottom of the starsense, I thought to myself wow that SK is a genius. I would have never thought of this. So, thanks !
Hi Tsula ! I was so happy to see you reviewing Oberwerk binoculars. I have 3 pair . Love them all. I also have their parallelogram. It’s a beautiful piece of workmanship and performs wonderfully. Kevin is an outstanding person to talk and work with. I’m very interested in the BT binoculars they offer. Just curious if you ever viewed through a pair before and what your thoughts were. I’d be very interested in your opinion cause that would help me decide if I should invest in a pair. I know buying 2 eyepieces could get pricey but I can only imagine the views. Do you know of any pros and cons of Binocular Telescopes that are on the market ? Thanks. I enjoy all your videos
Hi Mark: Thanks. At one time I really wanted a large binocular with 100mm lens but every single pair I looked at did not have an interpupillary distance (IPD) that was low enough to allow me to make one image-- essential to using binoculars and so I gave up. But I never knew about the Oberwerk binoculars until recently. I am very happy with this pair of 15x70 Oberwerk because it fits my IPD perfectly and they are very high quality and their customer service is top notch. So, I have never tried their 100 or larger. Now you have me curious whether the IPD on the Oberwerk BT would work for my eyes. I'm going to check that out. Unfortunately, I have no personal experience looking through them. All I know is I always have to check the IPD on any binocular I am considering buying. Other than that I just want them to be sharp and not have any chromatic aberration and have an easy focus knob too.
@ I was looking at their BT 100XLSD. 100mm objective and SD glass which should eliminate any CA. They only weigh 12.5 pounds so it should still be ok for a camera tripod ( I have the oberwerk wooden tripod that I would use). Not sure on the IPD , maybe that will depend on what eyepieces are used idk, but it has sure sparked my interest. Maybe someday you’ll have a review of them 😊. Thank you again for all your insight and inspiring videos.
@@markdrexler382 I have that wooden tripod. It can handle 40 pounds. So it would work great. OK. I looked it up and the IPD is quite wide from 50-80. So, those binoculars would work for me. So, maybe you will see a review of them one day! I have a few projects piled up right now and it has been so cloudy for days and days now. But we'll see. Take care.
Hi Tsula, sweetie-pie😘 When you commented that you noticed the OBERWERK 15x70 fogged up during observation even though they were nitrogen-filled, was this fogging INTERNAL or just fogging over (dew) on the outside of the Objective Lenses? I mean nitrogen-filled binoculars shouldn't really fog over internally as the casing is sealed or should be right?🤔
I'm getting more drawn to Binocular Astronomy, I bought a pair of Zeiss Victory SF 10x42 ... I sit in my zero gravity chair, and I feel like I am among the heavens! The design of the Zeiss Victory SF is so good, that you can hand hold them easily as you dance among the stars & clusters. I'm now looking at buying the BRESSER Slider Binocular Mount Tripod, to support heavier Bins like Oberwerk 👍 Stay safe & dark skies Terry
Unfortunately for me, it is hard to use binoculars. About 4 years ago, I shined a laser in my right eye and it permanently blinded my right eye. Whenever I look through binoculars or use my right eye, I see a black spot in the central 2° of my vision. So I enjoy telescopes and monoculars more because I don’t see a black spot using them.
That's horrible. I should have said most people have two eyes. Some people say that you should keep the other eye open when looking through the telescope in order to improve your viewing because allegedly it makes your brain think you are seeing with both eyes. I never do that. Do you keep both eyes open even though you have impaired vision in your right eye?
@ I keep both eyes open when I use binoculars, but when I use a telescope, I close my right eye. Whenever I use both eyes when I’m not using a telescope or binos, I actually can’t see my injury.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this video right now because, In the near future I will be purchasing a pair.
Good choice. I really like them.

Thank you. That pair of 25x100 looks really nice. I should have mentioned that the Leica were about five times more expensive.
Thank you for the review
Thanks for watching.

Thank you. How strange. Are they making a movie about binoculars?
@@tsulasbigadventures Sorry, Tsula - I meant to say Bob Iger, not "Bob Eiger" - I've been watching a lot of mountain-climbing videos lately. 🙂
