The Boston fern indoors is my challenge. It thrives on the porch in late Spring through late Fall here, but struggles inside during the Winter. I will try to water & fertilize it more this year! Thanks.
Peace lily is my hardest plant to keep flourishing
Hi, I have had plants all of my life, because my mother and grandmother had plants. I love my plants like some people love their pets, well almost. I did love my pets more but they require a lot more time and attention. Raising plants has always given me a zen-like state while caring for them. My problem is I took a miracle grow plant stick and crushed it up and put it in a spray bottle of water. This is the worst thing I have ever done to my plants. I sprayed my palm plant with this mixture and some kind of white stuff grew on my leaves. I had a huge split leaf philodendron and. It caught the white stuff on it. I cut my palm all the way back to just a stem, poured a mixture of 1/2 peroxide and water and sprayed the palm and poured the rest to the soil. I cut off all of my philodendron’s leaves that were affected. It all came back. 😢 I am so distressed. The palm was from a friend who died many years ago. To replace it would cost over a hundred dollars. The philodendron would cost even more. I am disabled and on low income so that’s not an option. Can you please help me ? I need advice because I’m about ready to toss them into the trash. I have never had a plant I could not save before. If the substance is spreading to nearby plants, you may be dealing with powdery mildew. If the adjacent plant was also sprayed, it might just be salt and mineral deposits. If you suspect powdery mildew, it's crucial to apply a fungicide to the leaves promptly. Fiddle leaf fig 😂 I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to keep these alive 😔
Oh my gosh I love Lemon buttonn fern and string of pearls! Neither like me and typically die within a month or two!
African Violets are hard for me. I'm not the one killing them. My cats kill them because they love to knock these plants onto the floor and snack on them. So I just don't grow them anymore. I'm now working on Thanksgiving Cactus. I have not killed them yet, but I can't get them to bloom after the first year. I'll keep trying.
As much as I love Ivy, especially Swedish Ivy, I could never keep them alive. I gave up years ago sadly. Now I mainly just grow Pathos, Spider plant and Syngonium with some lasting for a decade now. I lost a Snake plant I had for ages (not sure what eventually went wrong) and I miss it. Someday I'm going to replace it. Btw, in the 70's it was very trendy to get Jade plants and Christmas cactus. Yes, I killed them too. 😞 Wish I'd known these tips then for at least a better chance at success. Thanks.
Wondering Jew. One of my favorite plants but always does in winter why?
I must be doing something right; calatheas are the only ones on that list that I can't keep happy, and after a couple of attempts, I quit on them. I would recommend Chinese evergreens for an easy substitute. I also avoid ferns with thin, delicate leaflets though; they need the humidity of a greenhouse to do best. I stick with ones that have thicker leaves and watch the watering; you can overwater them too. But I have a fiddle leaf fig that's getting out of hand, and an "ET" fern that's more than 20 years old now, as well as many other houseplants that are 20-40 years old by now. But then, one of my friends gave me a little sign that says, "It's not hoarding if it's plants," so I guess I'm a little crazy.
Thank you for the suggestion on the Chinese evergreen. It not only has beautiful foliage but much easier to grow!

Maybe low humidity?
