If Leopold had never done what he did and let Belgium run a normal colony on, say, the British or French model, Congo would still be the mess it is now. The key issue as in so many other places in Africa, the Mideast, South Asia, and elsewhere is that the states there are artificial, with no common ethnicity, language, or national identity. Their colonial-drawn borders slice through the homelands of people who would prefer to live together, and loop together peoples who would prefer to live apart. This produces endless ethno national rivalry and warfare.

The documentary made a lot of error regarding the queen of Madagascar (Ranavalaona 1st). I am from Madagascar and have a good Knowledge of our history, but the way how the west see this queen is completely wrong. Yes, she were against christianism and killed some people (as too many queens and kings of her Generation) but was not too cruel. Fired Christian missionaries reported her differently from the reality (a matter of positionality). By the way, why the president/Government of South Africa doesn't appear among the list given the apartheid and free murders that happened there?

Drake Brown even tho Mao is responsible for the cultural revolution (amongst other killer campaigns lol )which killed so many, he was also seen as a hero to many who lived in China during those times. I don’t think he was as evil as Hitler or Stalin... not even close. His plan and vision wasn’t meant to be so evil; he just had zero tolerance for dissidence. But Hitler and Stalin? Nah, those two were directly evil and they knew it. They meant to be evil overtly and they wanted everyone to know it. More Hitler than Stalin though, bc you can argue Stalin and Mao were similar in terms of what they wanted for their respective territories. They were just adamant on what they wanted and how they wanted their subjects to act. If their subjects defied him, he would make examples out of them. But Hitler just killed people bc he hated them. I don’t think Stalin or Mao hated their people. I actually feel they loved their loyal subjects/citizens (w.e u wanna call them lol). Hitler hated Jews and the “others” and stopped at nothing to have them murdered. That’s what sets him apart from his counterparts. But yea going back to ur post, I think this youtuber def thought those 3 were too obvious. I know Hitler n Satan, I mean Stalin were too obvious. Not many people know Mao. But for those who do, even him, too obvious.

Before Constantine, Roman Emperors and Rome in general looked at Christians as another version of Jews. In fact they made little distinction between the two in Caligula's time. It was very popular in those days in Rome to blame Jews for nearly everything but over time that shifted to blaming Christians for everything that went wrong. If people tend to choose survival over heroism, there wouldn't be any soldiers fighting for Freedom and there wouldn't be any Doctors and Nurses fighting against covid-19. Did you know that there were 44 assassination attempts against evil hitler? None of them succeeded. The assassins/freedom fighters were captured, tortured, executed and so did their families and associates. But think if one of them had succeeded, how many millions of lives they would have saved! People put their lives in grave danger every day for the good of Humanity, we just don't notice it. Doctors Without Borders, Nuclear workers, Astronauts ............ It's ok if you or I are not one of these people but remember that you are not born a Hero, you become one! Who's to say that if someone was facing danger, you wouldn't step in to save them?

@@HartfordHD125 most of the people today that know about Vlad the impaler know about his cruelty and the stories that point it out and less about his good deeds and that is mostly because of Bram Stocker's book Dracula. But his book is based on the stories that he found being spread out at that time as a remaing part from the lies the boyard spread during Dracula's reign to scare people and to paint him as a vile person due to their own hate against him and what he was doing. It's easier to find stories about his cruelty than it is to find proof about their own deeds and their own greed. Those same boyards who presented him as a villain were the same greedy bastards who betrayed him and in the end kill him. That's what people of our days don't know. If Vlad the impaler know about the modern state of our country he would be rolling in his grave of fury and sadness bc he isn't around to take care of all the greedy and criminal politicians that rupe our country, politicians who try to make bribary and sexual assault a legal issue not punishable

The one's your mentioned were indeed horrible. I guess I would have to nominate Hitler, Stalin and Mao just do to the sheer numbers if nothing else. I am sure there are probably thousands in history who would be eligible for this list and thankfully I don't know their names.
