    I have a Celestron SCT 8”. Was considering buying a feather touch focuser for it. I did hear it was an easy swap out. I never did hear about having the scope horizontal and turning the focuser all the way counter clockwise. Thank you for sharing that information. That avoided disaster for sure. Enjoy your channel. Your enthusiasm is contagious

      Thank you. I think it's even easier on a Celestron.

    Tsula, I have no plans to install a fine focuser on my SCT but I very much enjoy watching your videos. Cheers!

    i love these. i have installed mine on my 12" LX90 aslo back in 2006. Its one of the first things i do. i like dual speeds on just about most of my scopes. The costs have gone up alot since then. cheers

      It was very expensive but well worth it especially for anyone like you who loves dual speed focusers. Cheers.

    You have a very positive, "can-do" attitude and that makes everything work out for the better. I recall seeing another review by Donnie Brasco that does what you did here for the 8 inch LX90. And I've heard that the Feather Touch IS a big improvement. I saw your original video on the 12 inch LX90 and I am convinced that I would enjoy the 12 inch LX200 optical tube mounted on an equatorial mount, the whole thing on a wheeley bar for easy moving. I am now the proud owner of a Tele Vue 55 mm plossl and that will be great for the 12 inch. Thanks for the videos and curb your enthusiasm!

      Thank you so much! You will be very happy with a 12" LX 200 and the Wheeley Bar makes it so easy to move around. I looked at that Televue 55mm Plossl but ended up getting a much cheaper 56mm Astromania (I think) that is great for wide field views.

    I have fitted electric focusers to all the catadioptric telescopes I have owned. No more vibrations while focusing.

    • @tsulasbigadventures
      @tsulasbigadventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They certainly help a lot but does it interfere when you are trying to look at the zenith?

    • @Astronurd
      @Astronurd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tsulasbigadventures Not at all. Your diagonal protrudes further than the electric focusers I've fitted.

    There was nothing intrinsically wrong with the focuser on my Meade 8" SCT so I couldn't really justify the cost of the Feather Touch upgrade. Instead, I bought and installed a Peterson Engineering ez-focus kit and am amazed by the results it achieved. Mirror flop is virtually non-existent now and focusing is soooo much smoother.

    • @tsulasbigadventures
      @tsulasbigadventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can understand that. The Feather Touch was very expensive. I have never heard of that Peterson Engineering kit. I'm going to go look it up now.

    I appreciate anyone posting stuff about Meade SCTs. 👍🏼 I just recently got their 6” ACF and am wondering if the install is the same for that? Or if it’s even compatible with it? I’ve notice that the 6” version has a different back than the larger versions - it’s less “flat” if that makes sense.
    Thanks again for the Meade content.

      Thank you. The instructions said they applied to 8-14 inch. I believe the focuser is slightly different on the 6" and the 16" Meades.

      I've seen good reviews of the 6" model, for example in the latest edition of The Backyard Astronomer's Guide. And the size and weight make it easy and safe to handle. If you use it on an LX85 mount you get all the navigation and tracking that you need. What's not to like?😀

    Not trying to steal any thunder here but, for my old Meade LX10 8 inch, because of the play in the original focuser, I bought a Peterson Engineering pack to improve it, which it did fairly well. I then bought an SVBony helical focuser (1.25 inch though) and that achieves the fine, in line focussing. A heck of a lot cheaper since, personally, I think we astronomers get ripped off left, right and centre for the simplest of parts.

    • @tsulasbigadventures
      @tsulasbigadventures  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Someone else mentioned the Peterson Engineering pack also. I don't know much about helical focusers. I will have to look it up. But I agree with you on the exorbitant prices charged one some items that should be much cheaper.

    How did you get the rod inside to attach to the new focuser?

    • @tsulasbigadventures
      @tsulasbigadventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The rod inside is protruding and you can easily hook the new focuser onto it.

      The sheriff told me a month ago that he had identified one of the thieves. I have been unable to reach him since then. So, I am assuming the criminal is still at large. Thanks for asking.
