    Perlman is master and a mensch! I also love his rich, plummy speaking voice. He is one of the few performers around these days who can articulate musical thoughts to lay people without sounding neither snobbish nor inarticulate. He is one of the best!

    I know nothing about playing violin, and still can enjoy his teaching so much. Mr. Perlman's craftsmanship, gentleness and humanity just have such a beautiful effect on everyone.

    Perlman is an Enlightened man in many aspects. Thankfully the higher power choose him to play this devilishly wonderful instrument. As a bit of an accomplished player myself he always delights and in watching and enjoying many other maestros with jealousy and full regard I find that he is like a Buddha of the instrument.. What a truly great player and person of inner wealth that shines on us all.

    I have seen many a masterclass and Perlman is one of the most kind. Looking beyond the hero worship the value really is in mining gems of wisdom from one of the greatest masters of our time. It is as if the musician him/herself is allowing the master to tune them.

    He's so kind and encouraging! Just as a teacher should be. I had to laugh when he said "that was my turn to be nervous!". Imagine Itzhak Perlman feeling nervous about playing! He's such a lovely guy - and it's even more amazing, because he's such a genius that he could get away with being cold and exacting.

    I've never personally met him but I've had the priviledge of being backstage with him a few times when he has come to detroit. and I've also been to a couple of rehearsals when he is playing a concerto with the dso. It's not so much that he's cranky I don't think, it's more like he has just been playing for a long time and knows how he likes things to run. so when it doesn't go his way he...makes it go his way. My teacher plays in the dso and he says the same thing.

    He plays a stradivarius right now I'm not sure what he played when the video was mad. Usually famous soloist charge upward of 400 dollars an hour. It sounds like a lot but keep in mind their time is more limited than their students, and their students are generally people (adults) getting ready for auditions with symphonies to get a job. Most musicians stick it out and hope for a master class since they are usually free to students, paid by an organization.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano
    @unclejuniorsoprano 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Stringy007 You don't know what you're talking about. Heifetz changed violin playing forever. He is the violinist whom all others are compared with, not Perlman. Perlman is the first to admit that he could only dream of playing like Heifetz. Perhaps the only other violinist who compares with Heifetz is Michael Rabin. Perlman & Rabin studied with Ivan Galamian & Perlman attended MR's funeral. Heifetz's abilities were extraordinary & both Perlman & Stern revere him as the top of the heap.

    Perlman is just so layed back and listens to every single little thing, Anyone know the name of the first piece. By the way, just to add in, I'd trade my soul and my life to be taught by Itzhak Perlman, or Zuckerman for that matter because he's a violist. I've been playing for 7 years now, I hope to be as good as Zuckerman in 40 or 50 years, I need money to pay for exquisite lessons though haha,
    "Not polite Gypsy music" hehe Perlman.

    @Stringy007 To say that Heifetz is no Perlman doesn't make any sense at all. That's like saying Mohammad Ali is no Jerry Quarry. Heifetz made several landmark recordings over the course of his long career, but I don't recall even 1 of Itzhak Perlman's. As for being a great teacher, the Heifetz Master Classes is a testimony to that. I have several of Perlman's recordings & like much of what he does, but Heifetz is in a category of his own. Isaac Stern regarded him as unapproachable in talent.
