never understood how barrel chested man could do a 4 minute mile. He is built more for 400 or 800 but achieved the pinnacle in the 1500 and mile- and even the world record in 2000. Possibly could have be a decathlete- as his frame is perfect for throwing the javelin
@@sergelu Actually it says that Bannister ran the first 4 minute mile. He was first to run under under 4 minutes. Derek Ibbotson ran the first mile in exactly 4 minutes
This man a god in New Zealand bigger than the All Blacks he never lost to Bayi again after the 1974 1500m final plus Bayi was crook at the time of the Montreal Olympic Games so the Boycott made no difference except I felt so sorry for Athletes like Mike Boit who was World Class over 800m & 1500m but couldn’t compete also what the Doco says he was the Champion but NZ boycotted Moscow 1980 & he couldn’t defend his title probably wouldn’t haven’t beaten Coe Ovett but he would of been right there till the end especially with his experience in Major Meets

Ran some good 5000s as well.
Actually Bannister ran the first 3.59.4 mile. He was the first to run an UNDER 4 minutes mile.
That’s what they say in the documentary at 2:15. John Walker was the first man to break 3:50 for the Mile

@@dhdavidholloway I don't think anyone weeped that Bannister was under 4. Are you really going to be that guy?
Bet you are fun at parties.
What does this have to do with parties? Athletics is about times, heights and distances. I merely corrected an error.
