What’s the best way to relearn stepping backwards and turning around confidently? Falling is a concern on a daily basis.

Hi Stephanie - It would be ideal to work with a physical therapist. They can give you some exercises to help with your specific situation and mobility concerns.

Thank you so much for this video. My dad has early onset parkinsons, but due to his rigorous strength training routine throughout his life, the symptoms were very mild, and doctors were only able to diagnose him in his late fifties. He's now in his mid-sixties and recently got a hip replacement. It is only after his hip replacement that he started going to a biokineticist, and he feels very frustrated and impatient with the smaller type of motor function and balance exercises he has to do. He doesn't see the value in it and thinks his progress is too slow, but I can already see remarkable improvement in his walking and spatial awareness. This video is great at explaining why these exercises are so important and how it will help him move around better and maintain his active lifestyle/strength training. Thank you so much for sharing your research, findings, and experiences!

Thanks for sharing your story! Slow progress can be frustrating, and your message highlights why it is important to have attentive care partners when living with Parkinson's: a care partner may notice things that a person with Parkinson's misses while in the middle of the working with therapists/other specialists.
