    I picked one of these up for simplicities sake so I could plug in guitar, bass, condenser & dynamic mics plus midi. Not bad at all. Makes things easier and less fussy.
    Now, I thought it was broken as no lights came on. I even changed the batteries. Until I watched your video. Now I see it has to be plugged in to the iPad. My batteries were fine and not even needed at that moment.
    Thanks for this old vid, Pete.

    Thank you Pete, when it comes to Garage band and IPad you’re the best. Just bought my iPad Pro and didn’t know how connect my guitar , (I thought it was like I did before) plug-in to the head phones with the Irig. Then I started to watch a lot of people on the net , connecting their iPads to interfaces and a lot of cables. I thought, no way , I’m giving back my pro, and then your video comes along. So easy to follow for dummy’s like me hehehe. You made my day. Love & Peace

    I would like to point out, That the IRig pro I/O will only direct monitor through the apps it's designed to work with. However it will direct monitor on any apps with pre-recorded content. In other words it will direct monitor during play back. Also the IRig pre 2 will direct monitor in any circumstance. The con the pre 2 is having only one power source, batteries that is

    Hi Pete, this mirrors my experience with the iRig HD2 - good quality digital signal and very easy to use. (All it needs is a good guitar player, in my case🤔🙄)
    Two quick comments/questions -
    1) Setting the gain - the instructions on my devices recommend setting the gain so that you get the bulk of the input (and certainly the louder parts) with the orange indicator light. No red, of course! Are your instructions different?
    2) The iRig HD2 has a 1/4 output socket so that, as well as sending signal out to the iPad via a lightning cable, you can send output to an amp or PA system for monitoring or to use when performing. This is in addition to the headphone output socket. Does your I/O device have such an output option or do you only have the headphone option?
    Cheers mate!😁🎸🤘

      Hey mate. Good to hear from you as always.
      1. Yes, I jumped the gun a little on the guitar recording and didn’t actually, er, read the manual per se? I thought I had read that you should keep it in the green but I have so many interfaces these days I may be getting things confused! So I may need to revisit and up the gain a little on future recordings.
      2. Nope, no pass through on this one. Makes it less useful for live playing and reinforces that it is very much a recording interface. I might mention this in a future video.
      Thanks for your input and questions as always.

    Hi, I’ve been a piano player for a while and literally decided today to start learning guitar. This is probably the dumbest question on this comments section, but this device does let you connect to both phone AND amplifier right? I thought it does and see no reason for it not to.
    I want to learn lessons through apps like simply guitar but live in university dorms, and would rather not disturb my flatmates in the other rooms around me lol. So I thought this would allow my phone to fully take in the audio from my guitar directly, without me having to play it out loud for everyone else to listen. And of course for the amp to make my guitar play the actual music. Thanks in advance.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there. So yes, it has a headphone output which you can send to headphones or indeed monitor speakers or an amp. 👍

      @afcwimbledon2896 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PeteJohnsMusic right thanks, and if I’m using an app on my phone to learn that requires it to hear me playing the guitar, this would work? It would pick up the guitars’s notes through the cable whilst the guitar is also connected to the amp at the same time?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could do it that way or go in to the amp and send the signal out to the iRig. There is also the iRig HD2 which has a guitar throughout connection.

    I want to buy one of these for my 11 year old son's Christmas present. (1) iRig Pro I/O with iRig PSU 3A (to charge the ipad while using) (2) iRig Pro Duo I/O
    with microphone (Can Garageband input both guitar and audio? ) (3) Apogee Jam+ (F) The advantage of the iRig Pro I/O is you can charge the Ipad Pro at the same time, while the advantage of the Jam+ is to play silently in your room (allowing you to play more often). iRig Pro Duo I/O is you can also combine with a mic, but will both inputs work in Garageband? Keep in mind, his Ipad Pro 9.7 has both Lightning connector and headphone jack. Not sure if he can use headphones in the headphone jack (or Bluetooth headphones) while using Lightning connector (Question) If you were to buy one today for an 11 year old, which one and why?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Thanks for the question and sorry for the late reply. Personally I think the iRig devices work best. The Duo would be my go-to if it is within budget because it can indeed record both microphone and guitar simultaneously. It also comes with Lightning but also USB and USB-C, so if your son updates his iPad in the future, it will still be compatible. And you can use it with a powered USB hub if you want to hook up MIDI keyboards, drives, mouse, keyboard etc in the future too, like this - th-cam.com/video/Vomprgxr0ac/w-d-xo.html

    Great tone man! I just started playing six months ago and joined a 3-piece 90’s punk/Grunge jam band. It’s awesome to play live with a good bassist and a kick a** drummer! I’m definitely the weak link but I’m practicing. I have a THR10II and just bought a MacBook Air M2 refurbished. I just want to use it to record and lay some tracks down. I have the cable I think I can plug my Yamaha THR10II into my MacBook and use it as a DAW. That would be awesome… just a lot of technical stuff to learn along with playing the guitar. I usually just use my iPhone (voice memo app) to record my guitar. Any advice on how I could record my whole guitar practice (helps me pick out to my mistakes and clean up my playing) on the MacBook Air without hitting record everytime on GarageBand?

    Hey Pete love your channel, been subbed for a while. I'm eyeing the iRig pro Duo I/O which I believe is just like the regular Pro I/O you reviewed with an extra XLR input. Anyway, my main concern as someone with an old 2nd gen iPad Pro is that jamming for too long (say two or three hours), might drain my battery. How long can you play on yours before needing to recharge and did you ever get the external PSU that can be hooked up to the iRig to keep the iPad from dying?. Heard it needs to be some specific kind of power supply, any idea on this?. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long ass comment.
    EDIT: oops and yet another question, how do you think the recording quality of the iRig pro compares to the focusrite 2i2 from your other video?. Would you say the iRig pro is a fine alternative for people on a tight budget who can't afford two audio interfaces for their PC and their iPad?, or should I just go for a Focusrite with the Apple camera kit adapter and just use that on both my PC and iPad?.

      Great questions all round. So if you want something simple and universal I’ve been really impressed with the iRig Pro I/O and you’re right that the duo is the same but with two channels.
      If I had to choose, I’d go with a setup that has a two channel interface, adapter and powered hub as I show in this video / th-cam.com/video/Sc-_LiuqiRA/w-d-xo.html
      But the difference is pretty small in overall quality and the iRig Pro Duo is definitely more convenient.
      Battery life? I’ve got 2-3 hours on my old iPad Air 2, and more like 3-4 on my iPad Pro 2020. You can use the genuine adapter or a generic 3rd party power adapter as long as it has the right voltage specs.

      @@myoriginalname I have iRig Pro Duo and to be honest it isn’t as convenient as iRig Pro I/O. Of course You have the ability of using two inputs but this device has to be either powered by external supply (minimum 500mA) or by batteries. It doesn’t work by just plugging into USB device. Using iRig Pro I/O You can use one power supply to power the device which automaticly powers and charges Your iPhone or iPad. No such thing in Pro Duo. Do it’s up to You if You’re ready to sacrifice mobility just to have two imputs but to have it You don’t need iRig You can choose one of many cheaper external soundcards. So You’re not limited to iRig.

      @@tomaszgrzesik3916 Oh cool, thanks for the heads-up!. Btw, do batteries on the DUO run out quickly?. I wouldn't mind changing them every month or so, but if they only last for a few days then that would be a problem I guess.

    So I bought an iRig and it works fine and sounds good. Problem is I've noticed a few issues when I do things like muted strums, palm muted strums, and harmonics. As far as the first two are concerned (and this goes for bringing my hand down to stop the strings from rining), there's a distinctive "chhh" kind of sound when I play muted strums and palm mute, which makes it basically impossible to record anything because that sound will be there and it sounds sloppy. I think it might be outside input noise but I don't know how to get rid of that, because the in-app mechanics in GarageBand don't seem to work. Any suggestions?

    one question about using the interface with my keyboard (it's a NORD).
    When I I connect it with Garageband using the irig pro I/O using MIDI and start recording a track using one of the NORD sound, will I see single notes that I could edit or just the envelope?
    And will I hear the NORD sound at all?

    All the best, Guido

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Guido. It really depends on the keyboard itself. I’m assuming your Nord has its own sounds and a speaker? In that case you will hear those sounds when okaying and capturing MIDI. A stand-alone MIDI controller has no sounds so will only trigger the GarageBand sounds. When I’m using a keyboard with its own sounds I tend to down the volume right down so it doesn’t distract me and then monitor the sound using the iPad/iPhone. I don't understand why there are virtually not interfaces like this that have decent reviews. Almost all of them average 3-3.5 stars. Sometime 4, but rarely. Drives me nuts. This one is 3-stars right now at Amazon. Oh well.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a lot comes down to people’s expectations. Often if you read the 1 and 2 star reviews you find that the user sometimes didn’t but the right interface for their needs, or they are trying to do something that is not supported. Especially with audio devices, there are so many variables around what hardware is being plugged in to to me that they won’t always work perfectly with every combination of microphone and computer/device
      But yes, I too am surprised by the variance in reviews and experience.

      Oh really? That’s very strange. I use either headphones or just my headphones (Sennheiser HD280). I have heard that these little Presonus monitors are really good form a few folks - amzn.to/37D6USA

    Can you correct the bum notes played? And how to collect irig to the 2 studio monitors?

      Hi there. No, devices like this only record audio generally not MIDI. There are some apps that convert guitar to MIDI.
      IRig devices only have a 3.5mm headphone jack. This can also be connected to speakers but the quality won’t be quite as good as an interface with dedicated audio out jacks.

    Hi Pete, what’s up? Do
    You know if it’s possible to record via irig pro headphones your music to ipad? I would like to shoot a video that way.
    Stay safe!

      Hey there. Are you wanting to play audio though your iRig and use this with the camera app? You can do this but the challenge can be adding Andy defects or processing and sending this to the camera app.

      Pete Johns , hi! I want to play guitar through the irig, record in Garage Band in my iphone and send it through the headset out of the irig pro to my ipad to shoot my video ( using a TRRS plug). I have the old irig pro witch doesn’t have this headset out . I want to know it’s possible, so i would buy it.
      Thank you for the fast reply!

    hello, i play clasic guitar whit pikup, and I want to make music videos with my iphon 8, without using the external microphone just, connect the amplifier's output to the iphon, is it possible with irig pro?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there. Yes depending on the amp you are using. You can connect the line out in to the line in on the iRig Pro and record, though it will be in mono.

      @@PeteJohnsMusic hi thanks for your availability, it is a Roland ac 33 amplifier for acoustic guitar I use it for street performances (I would use the output of the earphones). They told me that with only the trrs comector that connects to the ipohon (the iphon does not have a plug for a headphone) and a trs to trrs cable from the amplifier to the iphon and enough, is that right?

      Not sure. It does have a standard USB-A connector so with the right adapter it might.

      Yup. It will work via USB with any Mac or PC, and mobile using the included adapters.

    Hi Pete, do you know if this will work with the new IPad Pro which now has a USB-C connector instead a lighting connector?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. You just need a USB-A to USB-B adapter and then use the included USB-A cable.

    Any experience with iRig Recorder app that enables you to capture audio while video recording? I have trouble believing that almost nobody rated it on app store.

      @@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks for the reply. Actually, I'm looking for an interface that directly records audio to my phone while I'm recording video through it, without using softwares such as garageband. (and saving time spent on editing,exporting for video production) I suppose roland go mixer has a way to do that, but I'm not so sure about this one.

    How do you hook up to the iPad Pro? It’s only a usb c connection. I have an interface that is a usb a. I bought the usb a to usb c adaptor and it doesn’t work with GarageBand on the new iPad Pro

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

      Hey Andy. It should work fine with any USB-C to USB adapter? Perhaps it is a power issue? Because USB-C is a standard format (unlike Lightning which is proprietary), you can use any brand adapter in theory, so perhaps look for one which provides power as well as USB and other ports?
