- Last winter, we took in a VERY pregnant, very young stray cat so she can give birth to her babies (& raise them) in our home! It was an incredible experience that I will forever cherish, as it sprung my into the wonderful world of kitten fostering 😊
This video follows the last 3 days of Lady's pregnancy, her long labor, and the beginning of the birth.

Lady was a pregnant stray whom we took in to foster. She and her kittens were all eventually spayed/neutered before going to their forever homes. Please don't breed your cats-- there are already SO may homeless cats in the world ❤️

@@llamapajama7840 my cats mostly do it when they're resting. It can also be a sensory response. Cats get so caught up in a moment they literally forget to put their tongues back in.
Snoring can be a sign too
My cat's don't do that they sleep on their backs sometimes belly up.
It’s heartbreaking to realize just how many poor cats and dogs give birth like this out in the pouring rain, or the freezing cold winters with nobody but themselves

that almost happened with the cat my mom rescued, she was waiting for 4 kittens and probably was abandoned after it's last owners realised she was pregnant. Luckily she found our street and we took good care of her. 2 kittens got adopted by people we trust and know, and the other 2 stayed with us :)

You know what she was doing, right? This is a VERY pregnant Mama...she was making sure she felt comfortable and safe with you before she gave birth. The fact that she looks completely relaxed in your company is a very good thing, considering it said she was a stray who was very pregnant.

They're in their forever homes now! Sadly we don't get many updates after they're adopted. I do know Petra was renamed to Sushi lol 🍣

Cats are very expressive with their eyes. A cat closing their eyes in your presence is a sign of a calm, happy kitty. Kitty’s brain is producing a bunch of oxytocin during labor, which help with her contractions (and bonding with the kittens)
So fascinating. Their eyes really are so expressive ❤
Just about 14 years ago, my parents and I got the same kind of call, but it was in the middle of winter. The stray mama, Charlotte, was a beautiful tortie. She had 7 kittens, two of whom were stillborn. She had an upper respiratory infection, so she never cleaned off the kittens or cut their cords-we did all of that. We took Charlotte and all the kittens to the vet the next day because we were afraid for their collective safety/health. Thankfully she survived and so did four kittens (one died from heart complications a week later). We raised the kittens in our house and kept two: Caraway, a tortie just like her mommy, and Pekoe, a buff tabby who’s not as smart as his sister was but still the sweetest, lovingest boy.
Anyway. Shameless self-plug of my own pregnant foster cat story aside, Lady is just the prettiest, sweetest baby. You guys did a great job taking care of her and being gentle with her. Good on you for providing a variety of nests as well (though they were a little overpriced imo but that’s the industry)!
Thank you for fostering and for sharing your story-- I'm sorry you had to experience those sad bits 💔 But it's incredible what you all did! Cleaning up kittens post-birth and cutting their cords.. I couldn't imagine having known what to do in that situation! I'm so glad that mama found her way to you all

How can you not she's a pretty kitty about have some pretty kittens.
I have two cat queens but both of them are fixed and both of them used to be strays.
And the Russian Blue queen cat dubbed the name Silvia because of her silver hairs amongst her grey fur coat, and the second one is Autumn I named her that because she looked like the autumn leafs in fall.
Silvia used to be pregnant when she was a stray, and then when I saw her again, she was slim again. I don't think none of her kittens survived which happens sometimes when your a stray cat.

The only thing I would suggest is maybe a slightly more enclosed box for the birthing, with a “roof”. I think that’s why she tried going under the sofa.

If you happen to foster another pregnant pet in the future, they prefer dark, quiet places, where they can feel safe. So, next time, it would be a better idea to prepare closed boxes with only an entry space cut, so she can also see you. My previous female cat, who is now in cat heaven for a very long time, always woke me up in the middle of the night to give birth while I was sitting in front of her closed box's entry 🥹

Thank you! I use Final Cut Pro (MacBook app). It’s expensive though, so I recommend starting on something like iMovie or CapCut (phone apps). That’s what I did :)

I run a managed feral cat colony. Brought one kitten in to be our house kitty. Planned her neuter. She got out around four months old. Thought nothing of it, started planning her neuter. Realized she was pregnant, and learned the hard way that females can start cycle at four months not six. Prepared for her birth. So much of this lady, reminded me of same. She decided to get on the bed and freak out there. I pu a garbage bag and an old towel under her and between 8 pm and 12:30 am, to deliver five breech kittens. The first one she was having no clue. I helped each one come out, get cleaned, and counted/ removed placenta as they delivered. She got breaks in between rounds of labor. She was presiding over her first three and the contractions started again. The look she gave me was “No-way Not AGAIN” she was just so done with it all. She had a beautiful five. Farmer with a heated farm workshop wanted a mother with kittens, so she went there with 3 kittens at age and we kept two. Thank you for this video to remind me of her… the two we kept and neutered are 4 1/2, she is doing well as queen of the barn…
Oh my-- so young!! Sweet of you to help her as much as you could, bless you! That "no way, NOT AGAIN" look is exactly the look Lady got on her face too 🤣 I'm so happy to hear the family got to stay mostly together. Farms and barns.. sounds like the perfect life for cats ❤
@@AnnaFosters the family sort of did stay together. Mama and three sons, and brother and sister with us. He likes to try to sneak outside and pretend he is a big bad Tom (haha he has no clue and no parts) and his sister is so bro- centric that she starts calling for him and kitty cries within 30 minutes of him sneaking or doing a warp-cat bolt. So she finks on him. When he had to go for neutering (undescended testicles, his Persian heritage) she had to go with because we couldn’t stand her being a furry nutcase over being separated from him. Both had to wear a cone of shame while he healed. Love them both!

Cats need a quite, dark private hiding spot to give birth. All the attention, bright lights and open area only make her anxiety level increase and slow down the process.
I do wish I thought to close the curtains to make the space darker

This was the most entertaining and sweet cat birthing video I've seen. My husband and I were adopted by a male and female in November and we're going to be grandparents in mid-February! Yes, they adopted us in our alley.
We know nothing about helping her so YT is being quite the course to learn quickly.

Yeah same, I thought I was the only one. Maybe she would've preferred a more enclosed space and less people, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they can have complications, if stressed out by people and loud noises

How do we end up with a cat? Well they are cute adorable and they freaking hypnotize us with their meows and meews and purrs. How do you say no to that face? They have big round faces with bubbly eyes and they are derpy oddballs booping everything on their journey through our lives. They make our lives comfortable and stable. They are perfect emotional support animals. ❤ How do we end up with a pregnant cat? You rescue a stray and she surprises you with a bag full of unborn babies booping inside her cute chunky belly and you say awwww! We love you baby and your future generations. Can't wait to meet the grandkids. We are purring for their birthday. 😊❤ 🎉

This reminds me of when my mama cat, Boo, gave birth to her first litter. Unfortunately the kittens were inbred by her brother, Squirt, but a few lived. She had 7 kittens in total, with three surviving. For a first litter, that’s pretty rare, not to mention that they were inbred. One of the four stillborn was born two days after her initial labor, which worried us a bit. It was massive, I mean like at least six inches long. But don’t worry, Boo and her three kittens are just fine! We named the kittens Fluff, Bun, and Biscuit. Bun and Biscuit are supposedly girls, and Fluff is possibly a boy. They’re roughly 2-3 months old now. They’re adorable!
Edit: we think Bun may be a boy now lol. I’ll give updates when we are sure! :)

Cats are such beautiful animals! I'm not much of a cat person, but my daughter recently got one for my grandaughter, and turns out she is pregnant! Her teats are swollen and hard with milk so it won't be long before she goes into labor and I'm so excited!

Right before labor and delivery, the mother will start looking for a suitable place to give birth. Totally normal, it’s an instinctive behavior

I just want to say thank you for doing this, its an amazing thing. I foster cats and it may be hard giving them away once their ready but in the area that i live in there a lots of stray cats and my neighbers feed them and if they want to come inside we foster them but i love what your doing... It may seem little but its a big help because without you that cat would have to give birth outside in the cold with no one but itself so thank you

Cats crave aerated water. In the wild it’s safer to drink from a running water source rather than a stagnant one. That’s why a fountain is better than a bowl of water. It’s an instinctual behavior.

I think not a expert here but cats like giving birth in a safe dark quiet environment that’s why she tried going under the couch……. I tried to be there when my cat was having her babies to support her and she just screamed in my face to get out 😂 our cats usually wanna give birth under the bed or in or draws and I just let them, you guys did a great job making her comfortable ❤
