You are my favorite bike reviewer. Much better then all of those bike magazine ones. No drone views, no music, just pure riding and quick view from the outside, plus lots of engine noise. Great!
What a fantastic review! I've been looking through several videos in TH-cam, and yours was the one I loved the most, pure and simple review, with a lot of details and ride footage. My favourite part of the CB300 range is the single cylinder engine. It sounds great for a small engine, and pulls from 2000rpm easily. I fitted my CBR300R with an Akrapovic slip on which makes it sound terrific and gives a little torque boost around 4000rpm.
I've had much bigger bikes in the past, but I live in northern England where the roads are often small and twisty and a bike of this size is great fun to ride.
you'll get bored with it after 6 months. No point owning smaller bikes in the long run.
I've had it for almost 4 years now. Not bored at all. Ridden 600's and litre bikes as my only form of transport in the past (the old Fazer Thou was a fantastic bike). Smaller capacity bikes are terrific fun on the back roads. They're far more engaging (for example, my old Fazer Thou could be left in 3rd gear) and have terrific handling. I ordered it to come equipped with better tyres (Diablo Rosso II) and it just drops into corners with ease whilst sticking like glue.
If you're going to use a bike for long distance, or even extended travel on motorways (highways in US?), then a larger bike makes sense, but for tearing up the backroads of the UK, a larger capacity and heavier bike just isn't as much fun. Even tooling around town, smaller bikes are a blast.
I've been riding bikes for a looooong time, and to be fair, I was worried I'd get bored, but I'm not. It's just terrific fun to ride a bike hard on the UK's back roads.
Is the rear number plate holder removable? It's rather hideous as it sticks out.
You can get a tail tidy for it yeah.
Paul Raistrick I’ve been looking at these over the pond here in Vermont, the issue is I have a 30 mile interstate ride every day where people normally do 75-80 mph.

I just saw this at a Honda dealership in Vegas. It's barely bigger than a Grom, but it's a 300 and it looks like a real motorcycle. I want one now.

I just bought a Honda CB300R (2022 Model) in Candy Red.
Great simple bike, narrow, short wheelbase, steep forks so small turning circle and therefore ideal for filtering through stationary traffic in Bangkok City.
It's a light 286cc bike with a smooth engine, it handles very well in the corners, is stable in the corners and is well made .....
Well, it is a Honda after all ...

People seem to be wondering why no gear indicator? If i remember rightly there is a connection under the seat to plug one in. Just follow the instructions to fit it, or get a garage to do it.
I'm in money saving mode these years. Learned the hard way. So with that being said, I will invest into this.

Thanks for a great review. I will be test riding this bike soon. I have had many fast 1000cc bikes im done with big heavy bikes 500-800lbs bikes that don't handle as good as they should, or as I want them to. For Me with heavier bikes there is to much push through the turn, before chopping the throttle to bite into the turn compared to a light bike that bites into a fast turn. I want to ride leisurely, comfortably, and quietly some of the time, and be a hooligan taching to redline some times to, If this bike goes half way descent Im getting one. I am really liking the idea of a 317lbs bike. This seems to check all the boxes. Now to test ride one. I have had a LOT of bikes. I have fond memories of a honda cb350 twin cylinder bike I had as a teenager that bike was fun to ride and had plenty of power, but had drum brakes that weren't bad but not that great.
but 250cc - 400cc aren't as powerful as the Street Triple S or the 790 Duke. You'll get bored really quickly with smaller bikes.
Really good vid and review, would have liked to have seen it over different areas instead of the usual roads but still good footage.

It's super easy to ride ..... this is a very very nice suspension ..... it's super stable it feels like a big bike but I can still jolt it around easily ..... this corner is like a dream ..... ...... it's a Honda
Hi Cager, just to let you know you don’t have to be going fast to get seriously hurt I was doing 30mph when I got hit from behind and that caused enough damage to me to put me in hospital for 3 months.

Their naked 500 is the CB500F. A CB500R would be sweet.
how about a 650 r i think hondas gettin around to it.
Buy a CB500F, change the headlight and take down the 2 plastic fenders on the tank. If you want, you can go further and with minimum modification change the seat. Check on motorcyclespecs.co.za there is Honda CB500F Scrambler-looks sick...

I traded my MT09 for a CB300R and man that was a good move. A lot more fun, it's a big Grom with a great suspension, brakes and tires.
First bike was a 15 cb300f then moved to 08 a fz1 eventually 17S1000RR and sold. Back looking at the basics of what motorcycling is about. Engine notes making me miss my cb but this 300r looks promising. I’d definitely settle for a cb650f cafe though.

i have a question for you. How does it deal with the cross winds? The Duke 390 gives plenty scary moments while going fast.

How do you feel it compares to the MT-03?
What a sweet bike, the only thing I would ask for is tank storage for a helmet like the NC700 has. It's do damn practical around town.

I got 2 things to say:
1. I wonder how does the CB300R compete with the BMW G310R which are both turning to the same customers.
2. Honda needs more versions of the Neo Cafe style bike, the gap between the 300cc single and the 1000cc four is way too big, a 500cc twin is a must and a 650cc four could be nice as well.
I think Honda will be twin 500cc use cbr500r engine . New name perhaps cb500r XD
There is cb650r 4 cylinders in my country. Cb300r will come in next few months, then only cb125r is still off the list

I managed to hire CB300R when I left my bike for servicing. It's the best small displacement naked bike to ride. The only bad thing is that the fuel tank is a bit small. I prefer 14 litres fuel tank rather than 10 litres.
Great reviews. Was thinking of getting a classic style bike like the SWM440cc or Yamaha SR400, and now I'm looking at these retro nakes, which seem a bit more refined in the chassis. Was also looking at the Harley 500. What would rate as the Top 3 Bikes - Under 500cc? ps. We are roughly the same size height/weight :)

The planted feel at the corners are something to feel, nothing beats its stability.
I read that pillion seat is too small and some peopel are cancelling the boooking after test ride ?
@@devendersehrawat2947 Yes it is small but it is much better then any other offering. I did a 100 km with my pillion and she was absolutley fine with it. I must say that it also depends on the pillion size. for large size people it migt be uncomfortable. but still you should test it out urself if you are making your mind.
@@ishulove001 i am torn between jawa and this bike, almost same power output, jawa is heavier but i don't mind, although i get a feeling that Honda's reliability is time tested, even though there are exceptions like i saw today a honda cb300r owner saying that his oil is leaking and not being able to fix but overall I would expect honda quality to be good while jawa new bikes are yet to be tested. Just one thing honda seems a little overpriced, else then ike is nice, my only grouses i have mentioned, everything else i love .
@@devendersehrawat2947 I am going to be honest with you. it's been 2 months now I own this bike. And In an Indian context Yes Honda is expensive, but what it offers is a hardware which is directly imported and is of international standard without any exception. That leakage of your friend's bike might be a one thing but I am in contact with other owners and I can confirm that Honda is hell reliable and there is no issue till now from the hardware perspective. So you can say it it do justify it's price.
Coming to jawa, you already know it is completley different bike. apart from the price RE's, Jawa's are whole different category and are not a comptition to CB300r. I test rode the iNTERCEPTOR 650 when i was buying and to me the weight was too much for the ncr traffic and my use case. And i must say that i am pretty happy with my choice now :).
i'll suggest you to do a test ride and be your own judge.

I like how you mention that its an adult sized bike. I always worried about that with this bike.. Looking like a giant on it. But I'm only 5'8 so I think it's a great fit :'D
Sounds like this new CB300R is like a little Mazda CX-5. Not FAST, but it’s very agile, making you feel you’re going fast even at lower speeds all through out the power band.
So how do you compare the CB300R with the MT-03?

I'm finding it hard to decide because I can get either bike for $4400 new.

Lowest seat of the three -at 799mm.
The 125's is 816mm and the 1000cc is 830mm - that's high for short or average height learners, or a bike that weighs 212 kg.
Always better to be flat footed.

I'll soon be getting my motorcycle license and was wondering whether 300cc bikes (Especially the cb300r) could handle highway speeds? I'm in love with the design of this beauty but the small displacement worries me for my needs (cross country trips).
Yes it can handle highway speeds, just don't expect to do much over taking. It can get up to 160kph/100mph - no wind, flat surface, average weighted rider of 80kg/176lbs/12.5 stone.
Do you think if it come with twin cylinder, this bike will be even better?

I fell in love with this bike but I am not sure which one should I chose as a first bike, the CB125r or just go straight to the CB300r, once I get the 300cc one I will prob stick with it for a long time since I won't see any reason to switch bikes but if I buy the 125cc I will prob end up wanting to switch to the 300cc version in the near future. What do you guys think?
Patryk Ochnio if something means to you,I’ve started on MT-07.So deffo go for the bigger one.After a month or so,even the 300 would seem to you as small and underpowered.But you must respect the power and drive safely(whatever you choose).

How about reviewing the Yamaha XMAX 300 and 400
Only thing I wish Honda would add to this bike is the 6 speed DCT transmission as a option and also keep the manual transmission to offer both transmissions and increase the engine from 286cc engine to a 345cc engine and rename it Honda CB350r a increase in engine size would make this bike better for highway use when it is called for.
Did you notice the bike has a chain noise? Mine does especially when I drive past a wall or car and the sound bounces back. It's so annoying
I would buy a 500cc version of this bike. Take note Honda.

At least the G310r has a gear indicator and Michelin tires.
No gear indicator on the CB300R, but on the smaller, cheaper CB125R? Why is Honda the only Japanese motorcycle manufacturer that has still not yet democratized gear indicators on their streetbikes?
If you are in tune with your motorcycle you will know what gear you are in all the time. An indicator is for amateurs.

There are many motorcycles sold without gear indicators and those motorcycles are ridden for many miles and many years without any problems. Count with me 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 see it is easy :)
well im sorry, i can only count to 5, thts why im getting a scooter now, no need to count for gears. Lucky me i guess.
Scooters are not toys - go to a certified motorcycle safety school.

I also want to add - what is Honda's problem with gear indicators? They didn't have one on the CB300F nor on the CB500F. I really expected them to have one on this brand new bike, but no. Their competition in the BMW G310R and KTM Duke 390 both have it and they are all similarly priced.

I just don't see the logic, especially now a days whereas the cost of adding one is small. The bigger bikes for more experience riders have them and one would think they wouldn't need it since they're more ...well, experienced. And smaller "beginner" bike would benefit more from a gear indicator. Besides, my main point was there other makers such a KTM, BMW have one on their new 300cc bikes. And please don't call it a luxury item. And I beg the difference as I think it does make a difference to some degree. That's just my opinion. Your results may vary. :)
I added on of those gear indicator LED's to my bike, and whilst I've never had a gear indicator on previous bikes, it is useful as a double check.
Why would you be looking at a tiny dash to find out what gear you're in? Keep your eyes on the road and your gear in your mind.
You've got to look at your dash from time to time, usually to check your speed. I usually can remember what gear I'm in, and usually tell from my speed and revs. However, it's just another helpful tool, like the speedometer, tachometer, indicator lights, main-beam light, fuel gauge, clock, and any warning lights.
I've been riding a long time, taken advanced riding sessions with the Police so I could work alongside them and ridden in all weather conditions without any incident. I'm always looking around, always aware and always practice defensive riding. A quick glance at my gear indicator from time to time, just to keep myself aware of my bike's performance, along with quick glances at the speedometer and tachometer when it's safe to do so is all part of good riding technique.
Has it any vibration or hitting issue ?
Has it got a metal fuel tank or plastic, I'm thinking of will a magnetic tank bag fit.

Honda CB300R or KTM Duke 390? I can't decide. I am getting one for touring around Thailand but also small enough for daily city driving and parking. Maybe i preffer the Honda CB300R because Honda service is everywhere here and KTM is rare.
go for the ktm if dont care about styling/retro, it's a better bike in every aspect.

I bought a KTM first and sold it again within a couple of months because it just didnt work for daily driving around town in shorts(engine gets too hot) i also bought the CB300R but also sold that one a while ago. I am now looking at a KTM 690 Enduro instead once the corona situation clears.

KTM 390 Duke is the king of beginner bike. Honda is always Honda; predictable and not many features.

I heard cb300r had better suspension and had better handling. Juts less power.
