  • Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) otherwise known as The Artist House or Baan Khlong Bang Luang is a century-old house turned gallery, with local artwork, photography & a puppet theater centered around a small canal-side community in Thonburi, Bangkok.
    It's one of the best day trips I can think of for you to do in Bangkok and something completely different from the shiny malls and cafes on the Sukhumvit Road.
    I stopped for some Guay Jub Nam Kon and some Mango Sticky Rice at Auntie Lek Khlong Next Cafe (ร้านป้าเล็ก คลองบางหลวง) If you stop here, make sure you get the pad Thai, it's one of the best I've had in Bangkok.
    There is a famous puppet show at 2PM every Saturday and Sunday and you can also do a boat trip around the canals of old Bangkok.
    The easiest way to get to Khlong Bang Luang is to get the new MRT Blue Line to Bang Phai and it's a 5-10 minute walk from there.

    I've been binging your channel since discovering it recently, Gary and can't get enough of it. This is yet another amazing vid, thank you so much. I'll be visiting Bangkok in December and am planning on trying out as many of the places you've recommended as I can. Artist House is definitely near the top of the list.

      Hey Jouni, glad to be of service 😀. Haha, you are too kind! Yes, this would be a great addition to your Thonburi list, it’s so easy with the new MRT. I hope you can get back soon 🙏🙏

    Auntie Leks looks a great spot - definitely getting us in the mood for 2023! Do you recommend visiting Bang Luang at the weekend when the market is on? Not seen a floating market in Thailand for a long time but looks nice and calm the day you visited (better for photos IMO). We did hire a longtail boat to go up the klongs in Thonburi when we were last there in March 2020 and loved it even though quite ££. We were only there in the week so had no option on the floating markets - we didn't even get off the boat so next year we'll teh MRT over and explore on foot.

    Hey Garry. In my opinion the best kuey jup in Bangkok is at Bang Sue station.. The place is called Kuey jup saam tum (ก๋วยจั๊บ 21:00 น). I highly recommend this place and it's very different in terms of what you usually get in Bangkok.

      Good man, thanks Bryce! I’ll definitely check it out. Is it in the station or nearby? I can’t find it on maps?

    In thailand you can order not to put anything you don't like and add others to your dish instead. For example, if you don't like intestine, you just order Guay jub with "no intestine" but "crispy pork" instead, that all.

    • @theroamingcook
      @theroamingcook  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually do but for this video, I wanted to show everything. I usually get crispy pork and liver 🤤

    That is a very good local thai restaurant but if you are later on the day everything is sold out:(

    Please, no offence, but are dentists very expensive in BKK? Maybe you should go for a check up?

    If you are a foreigner I do not recommend this menu.(kuey-jub-numkon)Because it contains the offal that has a strong smell.I am Thai, still do not dare to eat. Goodluck!!😁😁🤟

    PS. Didn't you mum teach you to not talk with your mouth full? Sorry but it's so annoying. You have a video that can be edited. You can swallow then talk. Easy> No need to talk straight away with food in your mouth.

    • @theroamingcook
      @theroamingcook  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not really sure how to respond to this in all honesty mate. What my mum did teach me is that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all so I’ll keep my mouth shut this time...

      @@theroamingcook Don't you think any criticism, is good? Good or bad.
      Just letting you know, as many people might see your video and not subscribe or others might unsubscribe because of it and others may not bother to comment and just switch to the next TH-camr.
      Sorry, just trying to improve your channel as we cringe when we see it. Enjoy your day :)

      @@Bangkokcheaphotels I think constructive criticism is great but that wasn’t constructive, it was just rude. You can write whatever you want on here, I just didn’t have anything positive to respond with. Even the end of the last reply ‘just letting you know it makes us cringe’. How do you expect someone to react to that?
      I would personally word things in a different way or just message someone personally if something bothered me to that extent but we’re all different and you can comment in any way you see fit. I’ve had far worse comments thrown at me so no harm done.
      Have a good one
