Hey OMG I see this as a never ending battle to fix , repair or replace.
Looks like there is an aquastat, in the bottom left corner. But not directly in the boiler block. And no reason to think it's wired in properly. Wonder what the pressure rating for that glass is? And 15 PSI relief valve is scary. If I'm not mistaken, the block itself is rated for a 50 psi. In theory, one chuck all of the steam controls, and install a water LWCO, aquastat, 30psi relief valve, expansion tank, and of course, wire every in properly.

I know your assuming the worse failure where the boiler ignores the original safety devices. I get your point though. I suppose the upgrades to make it work like a hydronic would cost a few thousand with installation. Might as well get a hydronic system period.
Ok Mike i sort of understand what your saying? There is no temperature control with the flame. But exactly what kind of failure do you think put his life and property in jeopardy here? Wouldn't the original boiler safety devices turn off the gas? Assuming the flame rollout switch is on there and the low water cutoff.
Without a temperature control, the boiler temperature can rise to an unsafe level.
Owner is lying , he you tubed it in German, that’s where he made a mistake. His iPad translator was not working properly.
Did he have a dual feed valve piped in , it would trip on water or steam psi , I think a melt down is far fetched. It was obviously an engineering nightmare. The man or woman who designed that system was not smart enough to walk down the stairs.

Hello, First year apprentice here; Wait a steam boiler connected into hydronic heating lines with circulator pumps? Is that supposed to be like that? Is that okay? I feel like that's not.

I couldn't see exactly what controls were on the hydronic side but if the steam relief was still in the boiler with no extrol and they purged the hydronic side there would be water everywhere as soon as it started to heat. If it just had steam controls then it would make steam and heat nothing. I doubt there would be a fire. Any way you slice it what a shit show.
This whole install is so wrong.
