    I just wanted to bring to your attention the thing I like most about leather sheaths and that is silence smooth and supple like the living being it comes from leather is the stress free option. In most situations falling in the water is no big deal. In the situations I train for falling in is lethal. If you know your getting wet stow your sheath. If it's raining find shelter. If you are getting wet without a plan.... your sheath is the least of your worries. Anyway I like leather but I expect to change sheaths more often then knives. A leather sheath is not a 3 generation family heirloom. One of those sweet babies from Escanaba can go the distance. Thanks for the video and your well reasoned review.

    I swap carry a fixed blade with me all of the time. I use a mixture of either the Bradford Guardian 3, ESEE Izula, and the Spyderco Aqua. I also carry two folders in my front pockets.
    The Bradford knife I have been carrying for over 6 months and I love the product.

    hi to everyone at tnp. I just finished watching this video and was shocked that you do not find many tnpers carrying an edc fixed blade. I actually added my bk-2 into my edc back pack which I have equipped for a 24 to 48 hour emergency survival in an urban environment as I live and work in a big city here in the UK. I also have a spare swiss army cadet I think it is in my pack and carry in my pocket the kershaw 1555ti cryogenic which I bought because of my limited budget and the tnp review. I think no matter what environment you are in you should have a fixed blade to do those hard jobs and I find the bk-2 to be perfect for me at least for now. have to be careful what I do carry though due to UK knife laws.
    well love all your tnp vids keep it up man...cheers

    I EDC a Guardian3 at home over the past month (m390, black dlc, orange g10 and black leather), and take it with me sometimes in the rotation. I haven't abused it yet, but it does all the things I want it to and wears well. My colleague got a 3 and a 4 and he's modified the hot spots off the Guardian3.

    I absolutely love fixies. Love love love love love fixed blades. Of all shapes and sizes. My personal opinion the best fixed blade knife on the planet is gough custom knives. I absolutely love the look love the designs the materials the attention to detail and all the different styles. And I honestly feel it's one of the strongest if not the strongest. Bad to the bone. The guy is a genius and he is great at whatever you does on top of that he is a great guy with a wonderful heart. So my personal opinion I think gough custom knives are the worlds best. All around knifes. ONE LOVE.

    Didn't see this review coming. There are a lot of paratroopers in Alaska carrying this knife everyday. I bought mine about six months ago from a small shop in Anchorage. I love revolvers, particularly short barrel, big bore like the Ruger Super RedHawk Alaskan 2.5" .454, and the S&W 4" (actually 3.2" compensated) 500 magnum. I shot both these revolvers from 25yards using D/A standing, both 5 round groups measured 3.5"! I've also accomplished similar groups from 25yards using D/A from other short snub revolvers. Point being all of them are super accurate regardless of barrel length.

    I'm getting back into fixed blade knives for carry. I can never find what I'm looking for as a sheath so might as well make one. Got two fixed Karambits that I'm waiting on so I can EDC. I EDC a fixed blade and have for years. I have probably mentioned it somewhere, sometime on a TNP vid. I do for work and because it is a habit at work, it carries over to my off time too. Currently a Spyderco Perrin Bowie. I would probably carry this but not as a replacement for a fixed blade role. Maybe a bigger version. I always carry a folder too.

    • @farmerboy916
      @farmerboy916 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Games Ah, I couldn't find the price for the Walther. To me it just looks so off, I'd rather go with something else; I really dislike the serrations and how they did the back of the blade. It doesn't seem bad, but really isn't for me.
      I hadn't realized that the fairbairn-applegate was quite so much, either; you'd think they could produce them for quite a bit less. Then again, I haven't really looked into fixed blades; California is kinda crap about carrying them, and until yesterday I was a university student (graduated) who couldn't carry on campus where I spent most of my time. I'll be looking into open carry fixed blades soon I bet, and really don't know about the pricing.

    • @Megames2012
      @Megames2012 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, to start off with something that isn't too high priced and pretty good quality, check out Big 5. M-Tech knives are fairly inexpensive, and pretty good for the price. CRKT and Kershaw are both good knives, but a little more expensive. Just go on Amazon and look for fixed knives with 4+ star rating and within your budget; once you find one, first, see if your local stores have it, if not, Amazon is usually pretty cheap.

    Hey, Nutn take a look at the new Spyderco Fred Perrin Street Beat FRN. It's a smaller version of the Perrin Street Bowie you liked so much. VG10 vs. M390 but the ergos of the Spyderco are much, much better. Comes with the thermoplastic sheath with the C-clip, again the smaller version of the Street Bowie. Excellent retention.

    A2 steel was what Chris Reeve used to make his hollow handle knives. I owned a total of 6 of those, just sold the last one. They were all good stuff. Should have kept the Avitor, but prices went crzy sold I sold out and got a new Sebenza 25.

    • @Player_Review
      @Player_Review 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Randall Kelley My Bark River Bravo 2 is in A2... with the convex grind, it is godlike. 99% of the people that don't like convex grinds just don't know how to sharpen them. If they can't clamp their full flat grind and drone away on it, they just aren't happy. I do love the FFG though, it is just that I prefer convex for its versatility.

    I like this Bradford Guardian 3, but I think a worthy competitor at about the same price point from my research is the Buck 245MWG "Matt Would Go" designed by Matt Leathers, a fallen Navy SEAL, who was killed in a training accident, I believe. It is made from 5160 spring steel and coated with Buck's traction coating, I think. It features a micarta handle with adjustable kydex sheath with a TechLok for versatile carry. The blade length is just over four inches, and the shape is very close to the Guardian 3's. I have not obtained one yet, but I would love to see a Nutnfancy review on it.

    • @Player_Review
      @Player_Review 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tyler Barton It would be great to see a review on that one, sounds like a great offering. 5160 isn't too bad either and I like Buck's coating, though m390 is my current favorite steel. Hopefully we'll see that review and many more.

    • @tylerdoestech
      @tylerdoestech 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jeremy Madsen, I have not had any experience with M390. Somewhat surprisingly, the only "premium steel" I own is a MercWorx Sniper Chili "project knife" I obtained for ridiculously cheap in a pawn shop after someone took a grinder to it. It has S30V steel. I really like my Buck 625 Intrepid L fighter, too, and I wish Nutn would review it for more people to get their hands on a great lightweight fighter. That blade is where I have my experience with the traction coating. It wears well unless you are pounding steel with it.

    My martial arts instructor preaches fixed blade. I've been sticking with a folder because it doesn't look like a 'killer'. But the one on your table looks utility but could be very dangerous from a sheath and doesn't look over tactical. They are so fast. My instructor likes to get in the middle of one of our hand to hand rounds and say 'okay, now deploy your folder.' In the middle of a fight you just can't get it done without time and space. In the clinch you can only get a fixed blade out.

    I guess I'm an oddball, I carry an Endura 4 SS ComboEdge. It's 5.6 oz but feels great to me.

    Hiking or hunting I carry a fixed blade but Seattle is not fixed-friendly. I usually go Delica, because they're awesome.

    I edc a fixed blade around 5 days a week so i guess its not edc... But they are just better than folders IMO and in a lot of places an open carried fixed blade while it may turn some heads, is usually no nonsense legal.

    They have some new scales for that bradford, looked more ergonomic than originals but more money of course.

      Not for the Guardian 3 yet, unless I'm mistaken.

    I don't know if you've ever looked at it, but it seems the TOPS scandi trekker would be strong competition for the Guardian 3 (and an alternative to a tactical folder IMO).

    I'd love to EDC this as it looks really nice but unfortunately I cannot. (Stupid UK laws)

      +ilikepork247 Dude, you all must get those laws changed. Stop the insanity.

      If only it was that easy. Hell even if we have a blade that is legal over here cops don't like it if it can be opened one handed even though we have no law against one handed openers.

      Out of curiosity, do they count the leatherman tools you can open the knife on one handed as illegal fixed blades down by your parts?

    • @ilikepork247
      @ilikepork247 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      KamiSapmelash If they lock or are over 3 inches yes. If they don't exactly lock but are say held open by the tool folding in a way its a grey area that will come down to the discretion of the officer who stops you.

      +ilikepork247 You must have been unlucky to meet a plod who gave you trouble about a one-handed opener - I've never met anyone who's had that trouble, not had any problems like that myself. But, as you say they are legal, so there's not much they can do about it even if they don't like them. Unless you are waving the things about in a dangerous / threatening manner public. of course.

    I used to EDC a fixed-blade knife.
    CRKT Minimalist. Sharp enough for what I needed.

      I just started carrying the minimalist in the mini bowie version(neck carry) I forget I'm wearing it. It's sharp and a good utility shape. I'm
      also now testing the Cold steel Counter TAC II, (definitely a small defensive/ tactical knife) the sheath isn't great but I just clip it inside a belt loop in the back and forget about it till I sit in my truck. Then the carry method shows its drawbacks.
