Great job getting it back up and running. Beats having to buy another one. Winches aren’t cheap!

@@ydocproductions5593 no a old come a long is way better in one sense it never fails, I carry my old trusty all the time. but yeah it totally sucks using it lol. i have a love/hate relationship with my 1.5 ton chain come along that my dad gave me 20 years ago to pull engines with. anyway winches are very repairable I have the same winch in the video and I broke the winch brake. you can actually take it out and keep using it but like that has its drawbacks. also that company will warranty out parts no questions asked. they sent me a new control box just because the cover cracked and they sent me a new drum and a brake that I'm about to make a video on .

Thanks for this video and for the love of all things winch-able thank you for using a tripod for the camera. I am having the same issue but my fuse is blowing often. I am considering running lead wire out of the box and putting the weather proof fuse in a place i can get to it without having to take the cover off. I do wonder if it would be safe to step up to a 5 amp fuse from the 3amp... might have to if i can not keep it working

Do you know where to source aftermarket motors for these winches?

You really should add a battery cable system that connects it to your trucks battery when you use the winch.
These things want charging system voltage. The winch can draw max 420 Amps at full load.

But a very good video!! And great job with your diag!!

Thank you! And that's a great idea it would work a lot better than my little solar charger especially if I plan to use it often. I want a more permanent set up once I redo the deck. Thanks for watching!

I get what you are saying but no charging system has 420 amps, atleast not normal stuff. A winch relies mostly on the battery by default so its more important to have a really good battery like a deep cycle optima or like my platinum superstart. but no doubt it would be a good idea to have something to re-charge the battery as its being used. so actually your right sort of.

ok, this is a controller repair.. not a winch disassembly vid.

I had the same winch, Gen 3, XRC 9500. They are junk. everything from electronics to bearings failing in the drum. You'd be better off getting a Badlands from HF or a Mexico re-branded Warn Winch. The Smittybuilt will leave you stranded!
