What about the Yamaha FX770? I got mine for 30€ a few years back (no kidding). I could even fix the encoder with some glue, and it works. At 30€ it was WAY underrated. There are a lot of things I don't like about it, like the distortion/preamp. But if you use an inserted distortion pedal or an Art TubePreamp for cleans, the remaining effects are not too shabby. I do not intend to get rid of if. For me, it works.
Leon, you should try Korg DL8000R. The BEST pair for the AM8000R. Regret so deeply selling those units....also, if you have the chance, try the Yamaha D5000. The best DELAY's I have used in my life: DL8000R and D5000.
As much as I love modern modelers, I find the tones of some of these rack units you've demoed have a richness that's just hard to beat. This Korg is no exception.
This is a super powerful unit! The AM 8000 and DL 8000 are quality matches. Tri-chorus 2ch + rev + TC2290 stereo, a pair of doppolar speakers, Ch+Pitch+Rev+delay. Very good.
Absolutely love all these classic rack effect demos. The playing in the intro was massive. As stated by someone else, this is the kind of stuff where as a kid I’d cut out the ad from a magazine and tape it to my wall. This is the kind of stuff that makes you just want to play for hours.
I love these classic rack episodes....all were mythical when we were kids.... magazine dreams 😂 so glad such a player with respect for the shred, get to play with them.😂 I always leave with ideas and inspiration.🙏
Oh wow, this takes me back! Remember trying out a unit that possibly was the same as this one, or at least similar, at a guitar store back in the 80's (possibly Allans or Brashs in Melbourne). I could barely concentrate on what I was playing because the sound was so awesome. Had a similar experience with a Gallien Kruger amp, the model Iron Maiden used on 'Somewhere in Time'. I was trying out a Steinberger headless guitar, but the amp blew me away, forgot about the guitar! I'd love to get my hands on one of those amps nowadays, but I suspect they may sound a little dated. Briefly used a rack mount multi effects unit back in the early 2000s when I could finally afford one, but found that I actually preferred pedals instead. 'Lay it Down' sounds great through the Korg BTW. Ratt had some awesome riffs.
I have one, I found one a few years ago at a decent price. Cool unit! I think the reason they didn't catch on was they came out in the late 1990's when rack stuff wasn't real popular. Still want a DL8000r.
Have you done a demo of an Alesis Quadraverb 2 or Alesis Q20 ? I had one years ago and it was super slick…..so slick it was almost sterile. Would love to see you dig into it. 🤘🏼
Thank you for presenting the AM8000R. I wasn't aware of it yet. The sound is a bit too "new school" for me, but still, I like it way more than say the Yamaha FX990. Without a doubt, the display is amazing. I could read that from 5m away. Even with my degraded eyesight that isn't as good as it used to be in the 80s.
I've been thinking about these type of Korg units and how they decided "let's just not do visual design on it at all". I'll take that back, they used one knob with yellow top if that's an original. But like very simple chrome plate looking front. The square of buttons is slightly interesting though. But it reminds me of those "must have not interesting" tool racks that are mandatory on a gig and just look like a big I/O box or something, like they didn't do much more than put the band to the speaker. Aside the display that actually piques interest in that it might do something fancy. To summarize that thought, it feels like these units could've done really well if they were designed to look a bit more exciting. Similar to Roland and Lexicon products had. Like these have a sound that's worth checking, they just don't shout "hey guitarist/producer, try me, pick me, I make nice sounds!".
I had that unit for years an really liked the cross-delays. BUT: I never ever understood the menu system when it comes to programming that beast. Even worse than Lexicons in my opinion! The power supply was the same one as the Triton LE. That was Korgs Std-type jack used in this period of time. Doesnt make it better or worse, though.
What underrated rack effects should I try next?
Digitech GFX1 Twin Tube. Very nice unit. Warm tones with beautiful digital effects. And yes, tubes! 😎
Does it have to be rack effects? What about something like the Korg A5?

Hi Leon!! Korg Pandora 1 or Yamaha FX500? Used to be in many four track cassettes home studios in early 90'.
As much as I love modern modelers, I find the tones of some of these rack units you've demoed have a richness that's just hard to beat. This Korg is no exception.

I was lucky to have a bunch of old guitar mags from the late 80's to mid 90's and would also drool over this stuff
That multi head delay really blew me away 😮

Thanks brother! Just trying to bring those old magazine features to life with sound :)
@@LeonTodd 🙏 been playing all day, then your videos drop at 7pm...😂I end up back into it till bed 🎸
@8:30 That riff will NEVER get old. Great demo Leon. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thank you Leon. Many memories hearing these tones again!!!
Love this series Leon.
So unique/no one is doing it!
💪
Glad you enjoy it!
lovely!
confirmation that the chorusing and delays in the korg 8k series is special!

The good old GK 250ML - I got the rack version recently and it's still super fun!

Perfect unit to put in the rack to revitalize my original Line 6 POD Pro.

Just the original Quadra. It's got a pretty recognizable sound that works well with ADA.

Holy shit, this thing delivers the CHONK. It might be the thickest sound I've heard on the channel, and that is saying something!
I'm somewhat of a vintage rack enthusiast myself, loved Jane Seymour

That sounds awesome Leon thanks for sharing and of course your playing ROCKS
Thanks for listening and thanks for the kind words!
My pleasure Leon :) have a nice day
I love how LT always starts with the filth! Have this unit and DL8k. One day, will get around to using them (oh how life gets in the way).
RATT!
08:30 - This riff made the news and was blamed for melting countless numbers of people's faces off.
🤣
Can I send you my Boss Me - 30 for a review lol
Love the 80’s digital effects stuff. Dunno how they managed but these have character ❤
I had the DL8000 back in the day. Hung with my 2290 and my Eclipse. Sure cost a lot less.
I've only heard great things about the DL8000r. Seemless patch changes too IIRC, which is one thing the early rack stuff definitely lacked.
The Eclipse was slow to change too.
80s spirit never dies
So many cool Toyz, so little time. Have you ever tried the Rocktron Replifex ?
yep, there's a few demos with it on my channel
Well damn, that sounds better than when I had it 😂
Sounds amazing
Great unit
Che bellezza 🎸
Fuck me Round n Round perfect timing dude!!!
wow, its amazing
never seen one of those! sounds pretty good, too....even up to 200k :)
How does it compare to the korg A3? Are they similar?
Very different units. I have an in depth demo with the A3 up here too :)
13:30 what song is that riff from. I love it but can't rember where I've heard it.
Ragdoll - Heaven Above. I play it all the time on here
@LeonTodd yes u do and I love it
Do you have the tabs for Michael Romeo is insane Sea of Lies tapping?R u on Facebook?
i've got a lesson for it on my channel.

That makes a lot of sense that they'd use the same power supply as the synths.
Have you ever used an H9000?
Not yet. Would love to.
Love it! 👍👍 🇺🇸.
Actually that would belong to my x girlfriend;-)
