  • Islands with only one family living and no regular ships / Walk around the island village Seto Inland Sea Hikijima Akahonejima (Ehime Prefecture)
    Hiki Island
An island located in Hiuchinada, about 7km east of Imabari Port. The geology consists of biotite schist. Immediately to the east is the uninhabited island of Kobiki Island, and approximately 2 km to the northeast is the rocky Sea Sea Iso, where a light beacon has been installed. There are records of pine trees being planted on Hiki Island during the Keicho era (1596-1615), and it is said that settlement began when the guardian of the island, which was covered in pine trees, was brought to the island. After that, fishermen from Sakurai moved in and development began. There are no regular routes. Only two residents per household (as of April 2019) are engaged in citrus cultivation and fishing. It used to have a population of over 70 people and an elementary and junior high school, but it is now closed.
    Akone Island
An island with an area of 2.09km2 and an altitude of 159m located in Hiuchinada, about 0.3km south of Iwagi Island. To the south is Tsunami Island, and to the east is Sashima. It is said that a fort was built during the Sengoku period, and when it was destroyed, Hachiman Shrine was built in the Edo period. It is said that it became an uninhabited island in the modern era. The locals used to call it ``ji''. It is a steeply hilly island with three peaks over 100 meters above sea level. More than 30% of the island's total area is cultivated land, and there are no rivers. The residents of Iwagi Island cultivate rice and fruit, and since 1981, plowing boats have been operating irregularly between Iwaki Port and Takenoura, but these are no longer in operation. The rice fields in the Takenoura area were considered the most Ueda in the former Iwaki Village. In 1956, farm roads were developed through a group-run orchard farm road network improvement project, and from 2003, the Prefectural Livestock Experiment Station conducted a demonstration experiment of grazing Wagyu cattle as a measure to prevent the deterioration of abandoned farmland. In September 2013, it was manned by a couple who had been conducting dezukuri from Iwagi Island. A nature and agricultural experience facility called ``Akone Gakusha'' was established to welcome people through self-sufficient living experiences and nature observation, but it became unmanned again in 2011. However, the population was counted at two in the 2011 census. Raising of Wagyu beef, poultry farming, fruit cultivation, and vegetable and rice cultivation are carried out on the island.
