    I am not sure why Jack Tame wasted time on a minor subject that reduction in fuel tax for a 6 months would increase in emissions. I agree with Chris Hipkins, that there would a slight increase but over haul it will be almost the same if there was no reduction in fuel tax. The purpose of the reduction in fuel tax was due to the 'cost of living' crisis to help struggling. At least Chris Hipkins is more genuine in his responses than Christopher Luxon is.

      Asking about fuel taxes and reducing emissions is hardly a "minor subject" if we take the risks of cimate change seriously - as we have been advised to by panels of scientists for over three decades. If PM Hipkins had done his (or his advisers) homework, he would have known from Jack Tame's persistent questioning of National Minister for Climate Change Paula Bennett in 2016 that Tame would be also very persistent about climate change and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.

    Increase in emissions. The regions hardest hit by the cyclone include people from a low-socio economic background and those who need physical & financial support. Keeping things like petrol at low cost will ensure these people & anyone involved with clearing/cleaning/support can do what they need to do to help them return to a sense of normality.

    Jack is a good interviewer, but I think he needs to acknowledge we are a fossil fuel dependent society, both in our light and heavy vehicle fleets.
    The cost of fuel doesn’t just impact individual commuters but the entire supply chain.
    Putting pressure on families at the pump or at the checkout (etc) doesn’t help further our transition.

    • @tracygrant7931
      @tracygrant7931 ปีที่แล้ว

      And that's what needs to change though, our reliability on fossil fuels; however, I do think, transiently, the cost of living crisis should be of paramount priority, for now anyway. At least Chris is still going ahead with the imminent light rail project in Auckland (the city with the most transport carbon emissions). However, money needs to be put into the improvement of public transport so more people are encouraged to use it. It's already been proven that people being encouraged to use public transportation significantly reduced transport carbon emissions. I like Hipkins a lot better than Luxon, but maybe Hipkins should cut other pathetic spending that only benefits greedy businesses, like the corporate welfare scheme. Cut that and use that money to keep the clean car scheme in place! That way, people who ACTUALLY are financially struggling won't be negatively impacted, along with the climate.

    • @Not_A_Cat
      @Not_A_Cat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tracygrant7931 what makes you think carbon is bad? Serious question, has anyone ever explained how carbon effect climate?
      Cos it DOESN'T. CO² is the gift from God to create life on earth. It's NECESSARY, and the current levels are too low.

    • @tracygrant7931
      @tracygrant7931 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Not_A_Cat ahhhh carbon dioxide blocks the sun's heat from escaping the earth's atmosphere lol. You didn't know that? The excess increase in carbon dioxide is due to fossil fuels that emit carbon, and it is too much for plants to absorb. Not to mention the gargantuan number of deaths that occur because of fossil fuel emissions.

    A 1 to 2% increase in driving is only going to see a 1 to 2% increase in greenhouse gases... For New Zealand
    The overall effect that that will have on major weather events is rather insignificant. Switching the measurement technique from percentage to tons was only done to create confusion, and the uptake of public transportation being labeled as insignificant without any percentage as useful only for arguing one's case that the tax should have been implemented. Only problem is I don't think Jack actually believes that, Jack is only in this to win arguments. Is incredibly difficult to listen to.

  • @changemaster1554
    @changemaster1554 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like to look at climate change in a tactical way, to address this issue, over all, by breaking it into sections as it is a global issue in so many different areas.
    This section that I will call the "bucket section", is what has happen to this country New Zealand.
    Basically there is more water in the oceans of the world evaporating into the atmosphere forming clouds and drops it, that is destroying everything that preserves society and it is going to get to be a bigger issue than it is now.
    We have no choice but to experiment or be wipe out...
    Being tactical is the key for example: The ocean is calculated as flat with hot and cold air then mix together create wind, which create ocean swells, that can range from 1 meter to 50 meter+ swells that hold the clouds at a fix height where the moisture of the cloud reaches its limit which is pick up by satellites that can only travel 2 to 3 hundred KM and as an island like NZ or any coast line annoys its path of the storms set height, the moisture builds up more before it drops it causing hardship for many years of which societies will not have these years to rebuild before the next hit.
    So basically we need to hit these rain clouds before they hit land fall which should cut the rain fall by a good 45% and this is just of the top of my head of which I think the NZ.Air Force should stick in there Mind Bucket because it wouldn't take much to burst these clouds I hope as the coast line annoys the storm/clouds heights.
    And these bad attitudes going around gives nz a really bad look...stay focus cause it has only just started...this could change the world, without changing it because you still get hit by the storm but it compensates for climate change in this section of climate change "Bucket Section".
