Ah, yes, the good 'ole 'US versus EU' debate. To me, this is pretty basic: you are usually better at things that you spend more time doing. Ergo, the Europeans might have a slight advantage in MX because they race it pretty much exclusively. The US guys usually score better in SX because the EU fellows don't ride it. It's completely normal and there shouldn't be any ego involved at this point. However, if you exchange the top dogs, drop them in and give them some time to adjust, they will still be the top dogs because their skill level is just too high.
Roczen was a beast in MXGP (beat Herlings to the title, btw) and proceeded to kick butt overseas. Musquin has done pretty well too. I don't believe for a second that Tomac or Sexton would run mid-pack in MXGP if they decided to switch. Just because you are not used to doing something, doesn't mean you're bad at it.

The arrogance is insane with this guy. He won an MXGP series with an injured healings and gasjer. Just because Americans have struggled in a one-off race put on by a totally different promoter and format means nothing. Look at vialle struggling so much at the American motocross series. He dominates MXGP and struggles here. Can we stop judging based off this mxdn nonsense? Both sides have great riders. But a totally different practice and qualifying format and rules etc are quite an advantage for the MXGP riders in this one-off race.
How come we always use that to try and reason how much better MXGP riders are at motocross, but we don’t look at the cases like vialle coming over and struggling the same? And self proclaimed fastest man on the planet Jeffrey herlings would likely get beat by privateers in supercross. How do we justify giving herlings that title?
Nothing but respect to these riders and the shape they are in. Prado is a beast, but I don’t see why we have blown this out of proportion so much as of late. America struggles in the one-off race put on by the MXGP series and we use that to proclaim MXGP riders as superior motocross athletes?
Again, let’s just look at vialle (multi time world champion as we were constantly told) - dominates mxgp2 and struggles here.
Well that’s not because he’s not good, it takes time to get to the highest level of a different format, different style tracks and rules etc. Confidence is also at play and can suffer with so many differences.
