Hi guys, here's a short video detailing how I add cut lines around my artwork with both Photoshop and Illustrator examples.
For those who are curious, my sticker printing company is called Die Last Print co (dielast.co and check out / dielast.co )
The reaper artwork is by me ( / ironhides ) and the sugar glider artwork is by Drea Darling ( / drea.darling .
Let me know if you guys have any questions, hopefully it makes sense! Hit me up with questions for future video ideas too :)

BEST. TUTORIAL. EVER...ON THIS TOPIC!
No other tutorial properly covers this in such a short amount of time AND covers both programs in that timeframe.
Thank for saving me from a mental breakdown and helping me learn something new 🖤
Thanks Mark! I'm making stickers at the moment but prepping my illos for print/products is my least favourite part so this was a great refresher! x
currently making my own for the first time!!! glad to know this tut has the flp stamp of approval
Update: this was EXTREMELY helpful!!
This was very helpful! I always wondered how other artists set up their work for stickers. Had to use this for an athletics logo sticker/decal today!
Thanks Beth! Glad you liked it :)
Awesome!! I struggled a lot with scanned artworks. Thanks A LOT!
blackvelvetstore thanks, glad to hear it helped!
Is there any way to do the second method (with the illustration) in photoshop only? I don’t have illustrator and I feel it must be possible to do in only one program
I wish I could like this every time I go back to this video thanks for the info!
I can create the work path in photoshop but can't seem to copy and paste it into Illustrator - any ideas... thank you...
Excellent.
Thank you for sharing !
This is what ive been looking for forever. Now hope i am able to do this
Thank you so much for this!
This is great, thanks! Question..when in photoshop, sometimes when I click cntrl and then the layer and then go to paths the make path from selection option is greyed out, what am I missing? Thanks!
thank you! After watching this video, i have learnt how to create a smooth & round edge line. :)
Hi Mark, lovely tutorial! my question for you, is how do you go in and edit those jagged edges like you do at the end of the video?
Thank you!
What did you do the so quickly turn a hard edge into a rounded edge? Pen tool, but seemed like you had a short cut.
Thank you so much Mark! Instruction's so clear :)
hey man! i know its been a while but can you make a video on how to make vans style sticker? like you would have to make 2 counter cuts one for the sticker and one for the whole sticker with the whole for the clothing plastic string tag .
How come I don't get the white area once complete? When you say "invert" what are you actually doing? I have 18 pics I need to do and am stumped at this part. Please help!
Your tutorial was great and I'm hoping that you can lend a hand with something I'm working on. I was wondering how you might do the same thing with a multi-color bleed of an object so that the colors line up and look as natural but still match the original.
how do you smooth the edges like 5:11? what is the hotkey / command?
Thanks a lot for the tutorial Mark
saurabh jainth thanks a lot!
When I copy the path in Photoshop, it's not possible to paste it in Illustrator. Can you tell me if there is something I need to do to get this done?
I tried to create an outline and saved it as a svg to put into my cut software but it didn’t want to open up, do you know which format I would need to save the file after I get my cut line?
Just what I was looking for. Thank you! great vid! ;)
Thanks so much for the AI die cut instruction. I use it daily.
How did you copy and paste your image from Photoshop to Illustrator? I'm trying to grab the layer and bring it into Illustrator, but it's not working for me!
did you find out?
@@WeirdFlame You can simply drag the PSD file into your Ai.
How did you “copy” the path file from PS to AI? U pasted the path from PS to AI...
If you line the Photoshop and Illustrator windows side-by-side you can copy and drag the selection from Photoshop into Illustrator. A plus sign with a green circle will appear on your Illustrator work area and you can just drop it there.
When I try to select "Unite" in pathfinder I get the error message "The filter produced no results. Please select two overlapping paths"
same here hahhaha
Me too
What's the reason for expanding?
The printer at my work they can't see a cutcontour and can't cut it :( I Made it with Illustrator CS6. Process/spot color (called it Cutcontour) - 100% magenta - -0,3mm cutcontour - (at save, format TIFF 8 bit/transparant, Embed fonts, Transparency Overprints: Preserve
Language 3 and check every box!) Can anyone tell me what I need to do, or what the printer people do wrong?
I can’t figure out how you used magic wand to remove the background. Help!
Thanks very much for this
I cannot get the work path to copy and paste in to Illustrator. I am on a Mac, can anybody give me a step by step of what to do. I have tried copy, I have tried dragging it. When I drag it, I get the entire image, but no path. Any help will be great!!!!
So we have to have illustrator ?
how can i paste the path? i tried ctrl C and ctrl V but it didnt work
What if you don't want the white outline and you want to expand on the bleed so its only graphic no white.
SERIOUSLY, YOU ARE THE SHIZZLE.
I'm having trouble trying to copy and paste my image from Photoshop to Illustrator even using CTRL+C CTRL+V
Same! I’ve tried dragging it over from photoshop to illustrator as well, but that’s not working either
same here we need help
im new at this programs and this kind of stuff, may i know which format did he use to take to the print shop? also, i have the doubt, if i save the ilustration as a png or pdf, the printer would be able to distinct the cut line even if there is no thing like layers or stuff?
Sorry it's a delayed response, but I generally would provide a .eps file (saved from illustrator). Having said that, customers give me all types of files and I don't mind, I convert the artwork to EPS for the client :)
I can't seem to copy my work path to paste in Illustrator, any idea why?
Make sure you have the path selected, made this mistake myself. Do CTRL+A and then copy paste should work
but you leave a white area like stroke in the printed item
Freaky Designs that is exactly the point :)
i mean that white edge is not required in somthing like a die cut presentation folder or can it be cut???
It's up to you, you don't need to have the white area, that is added intentionally. Most of my customers specifically ask for a white edge around their stickers so that they are still very visible when applied on darker surfaces and windscreens etc.. You could cut right to the edge of the design if you like
Too quick, confusing
Horrible sound! Could hardly hear what you were saying...
Maybe check your speakers, the other 48,000 viewers had no issues?
Thank you!
what if the die cut is not good enough once you import back into PH from Ill? how to fix? i followed your steps and the die cut is not close enough to image?
