heres my first reaction of joyner Lucas' new single "devil's work". Its a track with a lot of emotion and a strong message that can be seen as controversial. But art wouldn't be art if there wasn't controversy and emotion behind it.

Many ppl ignored that Devil's work line,even tho it explains a lot.
its LITERALLY the most important line in the song!! it ties everything together. idk how people miss it too...its literally the name of the song lol
It does hit hard but there's plenty of logical fallacy in blaming the devil. God is all powerful but cannot protect us or stop the devil? There's the issue with the traditional religion and human rationale since we cannot place worship and blame on the same figure. There's more to understand about life and death that we as humans have trouble conceiving that death isn't a punishment nor is life. He's coming to the right entity by asking God for more wisdom but falls short in giving the devil more credit than it deserves. The genius part is calling it "devils work" as it's the devil's obligation to take the blame still serving God. But not everyone is ready for this conversation.

You weren't wrong about crucifixions being in mostly only Catholic churches, most other religions use just a cross. I grew up very religious, Catholic and Baptist mostly, but after my deployment to Iraq I just couldn't believe anymore. No disrespect to anyone's beliefs, that's just me. What I saw had me thinking either God doesn't exist or if he does he is a real asshole. That's also why the first half of this rap had me emotional too. I would wonder why some of the best soldiers I knew died but I lived.. wishing I could go instead and they could come back.. that shit fucked with me for a long time and it still creeps back in sometimes.

I identify with this song, I get him in some way... my dad died and he was a pure soul, he was everything to me and his brother that's a child abuser and a drug adict who's destroying his life basically trying to kill himself is still alive, and I always asked myself why my dad had to go and my ass of an uncle who ruined my life is still alive. So, I get this song, I even cried when I first listened to it.
