Machina doesn't get enough love. Plus Melissa Auf Der Mar played on it. I was lucky enough to stand right behind her at a show in Montreal in 2006 or so. I didn't want the show to end... Also it's good to know what good material they have after that album. I just never gave them another chance after Machina 2
I find it very interesting that one can describe Siamese Dream - an album with one track consisting of (if memory serves) 40 layers of guitar - as 'stripped back' and still be justified in calling it such against what followed.
Also for stuff to add in, this band has a BUNCH of b-sides from the 90s that weren't on Pisces Iscariot (mostly from Mellon Collie sessions) that are amazing as well. The Aeroplane Flies High, God, Mouths of Babes, being high on the list for me. Plus "The End is the Beginning is the End" which was only on Batman and Robin soundtrack (or was it Batman Forever?) is a banger.
On second and third listening and I think it’s pretty badass. Smashing Pumpkins were my favorite band from 1994-1999ish, so will always hold a special place in my heart

I literally agree with your entire rankings except for Adore which I'd rate perfection because it was so ahead of its time and still makes me cry to this day, especially if you know the backstory of how a lot of it is about his mom! Took a break yesterday from listening to nothing but Spiritbox all of 2024 since I credit their music saving my life this year, they took me out of the darkest time of my entire life and are now my favorite band ever! Anyway, listened to the new Pumpkins and I'm loving it, but the song War Dreams of Itself was eating at me about what that riff reminds me of and it turns out to be from the latest Chevelle album NIRATIAS, (Absolutely love the album start to finish all bangers) guitar tone and actual riff reminds me of that album plus especially the song Self Destructor so curious if you hear that, thanks!✌️
I’m a child. You got me with “not a window” 😂 I’m a pumpkins fan but the longer time goes on I struggle to connect with the newer stuff. The new album did throw some surprises at me though. They’re still good but it’s up to Machina for me where they were great 🤘 still love em though
Same here. I grew up with Siamese Dream & Melloncolie, but I lost their track after Machina. Trying to catch up their newer stuff. This record is pretty solid though.
Don't know if you like them, but this last album sounds a lot like the post-Counterparts era of Rush. Which comes as no surprise, since Billy has always said he's a massive fan.
Siamese Dream is their BEST and most SOLID from start to finish. Isn't too long and doesn't have lots of filler like Melon Collie. Which IMO should've been cut down a little 'Set The Sunray to Jerry' should've made the cut imo.
I would’ve had Adore in Perfection and would’ve moved the newer albums around a bit, but for the most part totally agree with this ranking. Love to see that the more time passes, the better Oceania ages

Man... I almost completely agree with this playlist. I might put Shiny higher and I think Oceania is overrated... But yes, I feel that CYR just sounds like a faint echo of what used to be SP while Atum, though flawed, feels like it's brimming with creative ideas. Aghori should be in the Fantastic tier. It's not just because "yay, more guitars!" It has complexity and beauty and gets better with each listen. It's almost on the level of a classic.
I wish I could reach out to Billy and convince him to put together a cover album of each of the Rush “mega”tracks. 2112. Cygnus X-1 and Book II of course. The Necromancer and Fountain of Lamneth. Xanadu. You get the picture. I know he loves them and I’d bet Alex & Geddy would give their blessings.
I wish Billy can get his head out of his ass, and make a short Metal ep. No one has the attention span or interest for high concept albums. I also think Billy and Ishan would collab.
Not far from how I see things. I would put ATUM higher because it just keeps getting better every listen. Aghori also seems to be something that will rise over time.
I really loved oceania when it came out. Coming back to it now it feels a little too much like ripping off his earlier Siamese. I enjoy the middle section of the album but that's about all now.
Zeitgeist Silver Cover edition is BADASSSSSSS!! TO this day, i don't understand the amount of hate this album got. Even when people explain it to me, i still don't understand. Oh and CYR is amazing too!
Pretty generous with everything except their best 3 albums, I’d say … Which I guess a fanboi should be … 😊. Except Zeitgeist, which you were incredibly hard on … and I think Zwan should just have been included/rated here, too …
Labeling someone as a fanboy just because of their opinions is a strange thing to do. "Best 3 albums"...to you, my guy. This comment has a lot of main character syndrome in it. I wouldn't even call myself a "Smashing Pumpkins FAN" these days... not since 2004 or so. Doesn't mean I can't still find things to enjoy in the later material.
@@MetalTrenches lol. Well, you seemed to consider yourself a fanboi … though I couldn’t care less, either way. Best 3 albums, according to most fans and even comments here in your comments section. You could say I am the main character in my personal opinion, yes … who else would it be? Who else’s personal opinion would I be expressing? Do I have to state that I’m expressing my opinion, every time I’m clearly doing that? I guess, for people like you, I do …
The B-Sides of the old albums are FAR better than most of the newer music. The Aeroplane Flies High boxed set is S-Tier. The Adore B-Sides are A-Tier. The Machina Acoustic Demo album is A-Tier. The Zeitgeist era B-Sides (American Gothic) and Stellar are S-Tier. It's a shame they didn't make it to the full release album.
I can agree with the majority of this ranking except for ATUM. That album is the worst thing Billy has ever released. A triple album with only a handful of ok songs.
90’s Billy Corgan had the magic touch of making even the lesser songs have something to them that hits you. I’m with you that Zeitgeist (and the worst gig I’ve ever seen on that tour) put me off them.
Similar to Tremches’ experience with that album, I was (18-ish) when it was coming out and psyched for a new SP album- while I didn’t hate it, I was pretty much stuck with a sobering reality of the long-awaited album being a mostly “just okay” release with a couple of a little bit better tracks.
My problem with ATUM is it should have been cut down to 10 or 12 songs. It's one of those albums where I really enjoyed many of the songs. Unfortunately, half the album was filled with garbage songs that wasted my time. And some of the intros ruined what otherwise would have been a great tune. A good example is the song INTERGALACTIC. The first 3+ minutes are garbage. Nobody mentions Beyond the Vale. I thought it was enjoyable and the guitars reminded me a bit of Queen.
ATUM had some good ideas but it was too polished for what Billy corgan’s voice works with. It was also too long lol. Most of the stand out songs on it sound good live though
Appreciate others opinion of course. I do not however understand how anyone could place Atum as anything but meh. There may be 3 songs on that record that i feel have potential and could yes indeed have fit well on some of the classic albums but man Cyr and Atum are just terrible to me. Aghori Mhori Mei blew my mind in the sense that Billy wasnt messin around about trying to get back to the roots yet moving forward simultaniously. That entire record is a banger and i didnt expect it.

This is a legit tier video.
Zwan might as well have been thrown in there.
I really loved oceania when it came out. Coming back to it now it feels a little too much like ripping off his earlier Siamese. I enjoy the middle section of the album but that's about all now.
Great list
Machina is a masterpiece
Yup
I wouldn’t go that far, but Stand inside your love was the last great Pumpkins moment
@@S-jq1yk Machina is easily Corgans best work
Stand Inside Your Love is one of my favorites from S.P., but Machina was a mixed bag. People need to quit calling every damn thing a 'masterpeice'.
@@nl3064 And you need to go back and listen again with more experience in Art rock and Progressive Rock. Its absolutely a masterpiece.
very good ranking
Zeitgeist Silver Cover edition is BADASSSSSSS!! TO this day, i don't understand the amount of hate this album got. Even when people explain it to me, i still don't understand. Oh and CYR is amazing too!
Cyr Is not bar at all I agree
Can’t believe you rated Pisces lower than Oceania that’s crazy
@@P3t3rp4n Life and music would be so boring if we all thought the same…
I agree with your ranking. P.S. ATUM is pronounced “autumn” and Oceania is pronounced “ocean-ee-uh”. Sorry to be that guy 😁
As someone from Oceania, his pronunciation was correct. Oh-she-ah-nee-ah
Zeitgeist is slept on.
I guess, for people like you, I do …
@@MetalTrenches … or are you just upset that you forgot about Zwan … ? 😬
All the real ones know Siamese Dream is the undisputed GOAT 🐐
I can agree with the majority of this ranking except for ATUM. That album is the worst thing Billy has ever released. A triple album with only a handful of ok songs.
smashing pumpkins still exist?! WTF?!?? didn't their frontman/band give up 3 decades ago?
Yes and no
I really can’t get past Billy’s voice now
American gothic, Ava adore b side song waiting, geesh demos psycodelic and untitled. From future embrace to love somebody w Robert Smith
Nice 👌
everybody; listen to zeitgeist again with the remixed vocals, its an all round better mix and listening experience.
@@pbrecipe2443 I did. The production is solid. I just think the songwriting is just ok
@@MetalTrenches but i do think it is improved…some fans haven’t listened to since they dismissed it in 2007. its worth a re listen imo
@@MetalTrenches ps dig the vid!!! cool content!
90’s Billy Corgan had the magic touch of making even the lesser songs have something to them that hits you.
I’m with you that Zeitgeist (and the worst gig I’ve ever seen on that tour) put me off them.
Similar to Tremches’ experience with that album, I was (18-ish) when it was coming out and psyched for a new SP album- while I didn’t hate it, I was pretty much stuck with a sobering reality of the long-awaited album being a mostly “just okay” release with a couple of a little bit better tracks.
amazing band who should've never gotten back together imo - I completely agree with the perfection tier - thanks bro!! 🤟
Yeah, I hate getting two hundred compelling new songs for free!
Generally, agree. I would put Atum bottom tier. Gish and Oceana a notch lower. Otherwise spot on.
I agree mostly with this ranking but Zeitgeist amd Pisces should be higher.
The new album was terrible, im done hoping for another pure rock album from them. At least we still have stephen malkmus putting out amazing music
But the new album was a pure rock album besides like 2 songs ?
The new album is pure rock
11:39 Up and *AT THEM!*
/*sigh*/ "Better"
