When I was in elementary school I traced a Charlie Brown cartoon and told my mom I drew it free hand. I'm still ashamed of that.

As a mom, she probably knew. But on the off chance she didn’t to trace something and make it look original is an art in it’s self. Another thing to look at childhood is a time to learn lessons of life, you obviously learned a valuable lesson on honesty.

John Wesley Powell led a "Geological" expedition. Sorry for the typo.
Also Teespring is telling me they won't honor the 25% (it's too much of a discount), so I did a new one for 20% and the code is YAY20. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Made several trips to the Gilcrease Museum while living in Tulsa way back in the early 70's. Was deeply moved by the work of Frederic Remington. Getting to see his amazing art and sculpture in person was a special experience. Thanks for sharing Dan Hickman's work with us. Another western artist more people should be aware of.

Hello Santee! I love classic western art which I feel is uniquely American and captures much of the story of the western frontier and the people who lived there. I especially admire the work of George Catlin, who, after meeting with a delegation of American Indians, was determine to preserve a written record of their individual tribal histories and cultures. His many portraits of the Plains Indian chiefs so often captured the look of quiet resignation in their solemn faces. I think many of the Indians knew that it was only a matter of time before the white fathers in Washington would expand settlement on the frontier while driving their people further West and eventually onto the reservations. Since American Indians were not fully recognized as citizens until Congress granted them citizenship in 1924, I am glad for men like Catlin who sought to preserve the unique history of these proud and noble people depicted through his art.
I hope you and Mrs. Santee and everyone at Arizona Ghostriders had a beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving!

Good one Santee! Having watched westerns many times, my eye wanders away to the background.
My first point of interest is different mounts they may have in a scene,
Usually a saloon or bunkhouse/main house. If they do, I'm quick to pause it to see if deer are muleys. No white tail beyond Mississippi river basically.
Next is art, paintings and bronzes.
I'm always happy to see Remingtons. Also happy when a small bronze of a bird dog on point
On a desk or dresser(setter usually).
This episode hits it on the head.

Here’s some small world building details paragraphs for my old West/Arctic Wilderness story I’m working on writing:
Within the digitized cyber-AstralSpace universe of Archaeiya is the multi dimensional Tartharia plane where the dimension of EarthStone is located.
Within the dimension of EarthStone is the apocalyptic/wilderness continent of Alessaeia, which is a arctic and sub arctic continent within the first continental ring of the Tartharian plane.
There is a couple Antarctic and sub Antarctic landmasses as well.
The other dimensions of the Tartharian plane are located outside of the first continental ring.
There’s a mirror wall that separates the different dimensions.
That mirror wall is called the universal mirror.
The Alessaeian continent is home to the Khailians, Hymerians and the native Alessaeian tribes.
Some of those tribes are the Seminoàg, Inuviàt, and the Nahopache, as well as some other tribes.
The continent of Alessaeia is mostly apocalyptic and wilderness with ruined settlements and scattered remnants of lone structures scattered across the arctic/old west frontier landscape.
Theres only one inhabited settlement and that is the frontier outpost of Lauralyn township.
Lauralyn township is by the dreaded and feared Deadwood forest/Ordovhai shadow woods.
I hope you all really like these paragraphs from my old West/arctic wilderness novella series Mysteriarch Mythos: Darkology rising I’m writing.

You could create a channel just on Western art. I'm looking forward to more.

I'd watch out doin' turkey calls out in the wild.....could be a guy huntin' out there.... I must say that Dan's a really talented artist but also that he ever decided to act, he could play Doc Adams in any Gunsmoke redo....just an observation 🤔
