@@GingerOfOz Going all in on the "look like an official nintendo product" and I'm here for it. Looking forward to my CC letter written in invisible ink
This guy is real for dropping all the info on how to build it and pricing. 1500 is a smart price because it'll deter a fair amount of people but help make your life not miserable in having a massive order amount that you alone have to fulfill.
Ima be honest 1.5k is super expensive for a Wii handheld but given the time and effort you put into them I’m sure they are well worth it if your a hardcore Wii gamer
custom electronics like this is alot like glassblowing. youre paying for all of the messups until the final product. its very easy to mess up a Trimmed Wii board and brick your whole setup. or slip with a soldering iron and mess up your custom painted 3d printed case.
It's a hyper niche market where every single product is made to order, by hand. These handhelds (and really any custom handmade good) literally fall into the same category of market as something like a bespoke custom sports car.
Considering the R&D, hours of assembly that go into the units, and messups along the way; It's not an outrageous price. The sticker shock is real but it is a fair price.
For real. Anyone who thinks that it outrageous should try and make one. Theyre quickly gonna realise this guy is putting in probably more than a weeks work in these. All by hand. No one would do that much work for under minimum wage.
People also don't realize it's more of a collectors item, anyone that wants a handheld can just go on the internet and get one that runs 99% of every game ever made at $500
oh it's on dude. how dare you call me a rotten thief after I FOUND a completely FREE button on the FLOOR. better come to MGC 2025 and take it back before I eat it
$1500 seems downright reasonable for this kind of labour. I don't think I'd pay a big company this much for a product like this, because economies of scale and all that - but this clearly has been designed with experience in mind, rather than selling at a price point. Incredible work. Can't wait to see more on this project if you do a deeper dive.
While $1,500 seems expensive as hell and well out of my price range. I know the amount of work to do this "mod" is absolutely insane. I'm sure it took hundreds of hours in R&D alone. To build the custom PCBs, figure out the perfect cuts, design the case, and hammer out the BOM. Plus it basically being a one off means you don't get the perks of large scale discounts. Honestly, it sounds like a good deal after all that. You've basically created a whole new device from the ground up. Kudos to you! You do great work and I love every bit of it.
I'm glad people on internet were nice to you! 1500 USD is totally a understandable price since aside of being a super niche work, it's something you put all your time and care to be a quality product. About the guy in the stream, guess that's at least a cool rare insult
$1500 is a lot, but when I made my portable Gamecube, it took me spending basically all my free time when I wasn't at work and took me over two months to complete. These types of things require a lot of time.
I love this! This is a form factor that is so intriguing to me! As a kid I always wanted my gameboy advance to be able to play my GameCube games, so following your projects has struck such a chord in me! Although it might be some time before I’m able to tackle this project, I’m still attempting to get my ashida build to work :/ Ginger you truly are a wizard!
Dude this is freaking sick! I can’t believe how small and portable you were able to make it. I actually wanted to make a portable Wii, and all my friends told me it wasn’t possible, and this gave me a HUGE inspirational boost. I’m so impressed with the Wiiboy color, wow.
Looking hot!! Nicely done, GingerOfOz. I still remember building my own portable Wii and it is no joke. 1500 Bucks is a fair price for something so special and unique. I can only imagine all the preperation and planning, that went into this thing ;) As always, keep up the good work. I can't wait to see something new from you :)
@@Balou_560 nevermind a top end gpu, you could get an entire mid-range prebuilt PC for 1500 that would be able to run basically any emulator in existence
Can't believe it's been that long! I have always wanted to try and build a GBoy / WiiBoy, but just haven't found the time even though I have a lot of spare Wiis! Updated version looks slick and honestly the price isn't crazy considering the time you put into it.
wow... improvements and tweaks on the quality of life. Thank you! I still have the original build, and it's working nicely, though yellowing... BUT HAPPY with it.
$1500 is pretty fair. But since i am from Europe. It will cost a bit more with shipping included. But to have such a pricy thing in posession. That would be awesome. Time to save some money i guess.
Wow! That's absolutely amazing. Not only in design but also the general idea and craftsmanship that went into this. Truly a technical genius. 🎭 Also. I feel inspired. I want to learn more about electronics. Now that I can see how much is possible. (Mainly to repair my Nintendo 2Ds.)
$1500 is a very fair price, not sure why people are complaining so much. Think of the labor involved and the years of practice it took to get to a point of selling something like this. Also good luck finding anyone else willing to sell portables let alone at the same level of quality of this.
@@fr0nk3nst31nThis is such a stupid argument !! Having money doesn’t negate ridiculous prices just because you can afford it. The prices are absurd regardless of whether you want to flex to internet strangers that you can afford it or not
@supercat2087 You are right, every car should cost $50 because it should not be a flex to own one \s its almost as if goods and servises have a cost, If you are so well versed on building handhelds, start a compeating brand at a lower price point. HUGE SUCCESS.
The kid who eats lemons is full of endurance and vitamin C. I would be flattered if i was compared to someone like that.
