One of the best synthesizer workstations I've ever worked with. Never owned one. Would be interested to buy one 01/W FD second hand. Still having dozens of 2,5 inch floppy discs full of sounds and sequences for this jewel.
The way I see it, the way a board sounds nowadays is more down to the person creating the patches rather than the factory presets. I always judge a board's sounds by actually trying to create my own stuff using it. if it's not very user friendly, then I'll look for what other people have done with it before making up my mind. for example, in my opinion, I like stuff that JayB has done with his keyboards like the Motif and even the KORG X5D. that's something I like in a board or any synth for that matter. Hardware or software. Just leave it to the end user I think.
Ive got a DX7 and only one are 2 of the patches are factory. I edited them because to me most of them don't sound that great plus it gives you a challenge to see what its capbable of. Yes digitall synths are good at recreating stuff like piano, drums, guitar etc but they can do alot more than that like creating beautiful pads like you hear on this. That's where digital synths really excel at that.
A great programmer can use uncompressed sounds (like the 01RW) and take them into greatness, but the compressed sounds (of say 05RW) can only enter greatness if I spent so so much time. From experience I have to remember which particular sounds are best for pads, etc and those are the ones.Compression is a loss of fidelity which is bad.
Complimenti!!
I miss this keyboard.. I owned 01/W pro before.. love the sound. Made lots of seq songs on a floppy back then. It was pretty heavy I got it sold when I started have issues on LCD back light.. No issues on the sound and electronics.. just the back light.. I think I have it for 15 years.
@@mariuszmariusz5104 I had the X3 as my first synth, and 01W and X3 are quite similar! The samples (that both synths share) are looped shorter on the X3, compared to the 01W and a bit more compressed and/or lower in sample rate i.e. audio quality. But on the other hand, the X3 has much more multisamples, so it makes up for it in my humble opinion. Some reviewers say that the X3 is more comparable to the 03R/W, 05R/W and so on, and the 01W is more comparable with Wavestation, M1. It also shows in the sales prices in 90s: The 01W, Wavestation, M1 were 2000 bucks at least more expensive, compared to the X3. But nowadays, with very nice used prices on Ebay and such, you can buy either workstation (01W, X3, M1, Wavestation) doesn't matter so much. Are you planning to buy any of those synths? Which Korg synths do you already have? Greetings!
@@RaptureMusicOfficial Thnx for the knowledgeable answer. I own the X3... but I am thinking of getting the 01/WFD or M1... do you have any stuff for the X3?
Man, I known about this video like 2 years ago an probably see it like 50 times between this 2 years. And still wanting to have a korg 01 series leyboard. Some day I'll pick one.
Before the M3 and Kronos were released this was my desert island synth. Great sounds, great touch keyboard and drop dead simple 16 track sequencer. I miss it... the technology has moved on and floppy disk technology does not cut it anymore but it was so easy to get up to speed on this board, hardly a learning curve at all. Wonderful synth/workstation, best in its day IMHO.
Cant belive how underestimated this synth is nowdays in the era of mini "synths" with no sound quality that makes music sound bad and all the same. It sells for less than 200 euros and even less, got mine for only 100e. Street price is not always compared to the value of gear. Great Demo in anyway.
I have had an O1W/FD since 1995. To this day it is my go-to synth. Voices can be changes and rebuilt easily and it's a breeze to program the sequencer and slave it to a studio via midi. Best synth I've ever owned. I just need to send it off for a few repairs to get the combi function and the LED read out tuned up. Only thing missing is a portamento function.
I use to own one for 10 years. The keyboard action was fantastic. The only drawbacks were the floppy disks always had read errors and the electric guitar sounds were not very realistic. I wish I still had it just for the keyboard as a controller.
Great sounds, I have a Korg 01/wfd too, could you make a video showing tips on using it, i.e. loading on new sounds from disc's, laying down a basic track etc...?
okay, I must say that everything you played including that little piece sounded so memorable and filled with feeling that it looked like you were playing famous songs and melodies :P
I had a M1 & O1/Wfd. I sold the M1 & got a M1Rex. (& sold that) The O1/W just up & died for no reason & was beyond repair. I now have a Trinity TR-Rack, Triton Pro X & Kronos X 88, but I'd like to get another O1/W someday, even just for nostalgia. Maybe an M1 too. Eventually I'll have them again, but they're not real high on my list now. Since March (Kronos in Dec.) I've bought a Yamaha EX5, Trinity TR-Rack, Casio HT-6000 & 2 days ago, a Korg DW8000. So many synths & not enough CA$H, ya know?
this is a keyboardist dream if you guys never heard one and have the opportunity to get one do so... if you guys ever wonder why the songs nowdays don't sound as big and warm as they did in the nineties this is the reason why this keyboard has a true FM sound very big plush sounds and also.... one of the other best keyboards Korg ever made was the trinity they never duplicated anything else better than those two keyboards the Triton to me was a big let-down
There are not too many cons where the Kronos is concerned. I've had every Korg Flagship since the M1. I never really like Korg's piano, guitar & drums sounds. Korg finally got EVERYTHING right w/the Kronos. I also heavily use the sequencers on my workstations & I don't much go for PC based sequencing. If you're familiar w/the O1/W's sequencer, you'll have no problems at all w/the Kronos. It's sequencer is very similar, but w/the addition of an integrated 16 track audio recorder.
Very Awesome Dude! I Had same keyboard and he has got a lot of Good sounds! But in Prog. Bank i disliked the Monolead 1 and i released... I Writed a SquareLead to it xD
