This video was amazing. I have a betta with a tumor on it's side and I don't want to do substrate. He's thriving on the plants that float and I'm just glad to know it was the right choice
My husband had a red tiger lotus and it was a tiny leaf with time it grew into this beautiful monster. I was shocked at how big and beautiful the leaf of this tree is. Def. A must have for any one trying to get a different looking plant in their aquarium! Awesome video btw!
We used to call Hornwort "Foxtail" decades ago. I now have some small Salvinia plants, some Elodea sprigs, along with a bunch of hornwort, some Bacopa caroliniana stems, and an Amazon sword. The latter two are planted in beakers with some black plant substrate. My local store is going to get some more plants around the first of the year, as there are a couple more I want to get. Not to mention some fishes. Take care.
Great! Ty! Asking friends to harvest their ponds and lakes! I thought I could but wasn’t sure thanks for mentioning that. I’ll do more research to make sure I harvest quarantine and transfer/ransplant correctly.
Good point! I've yet to try pothos but would definitely be interested in the future. Heard those are really beneficial and a great addition. thx for watching!
Thank you so much for this list! At least I know which ones to buy now as I prefer everything modular inside the aquarium so I can clean it easily. I already have some of the plants in your list but I plan to add more. Greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭...
Very informative video. Although, something i didn't hear you mention was lighting. What type of lighting do these plant require and thrive in? Im looking to start my low maintenance planted tank. Thank you
The tiger lotus is a heavy root feeder as most lilies are, it will at first grow some leaves from the bulb but it will also send roots into the substrate which will eventually be used as the main source of feeding and if the substrate is not rich enough the plant will never do well, it will most probably die.
Very true, thanks for sharing! I've also found that liquid fertilizer makes them grow faster, probably because of the minerals they add to the water column.
Thanks for the info! Ive had trouble in the past with algae blooms caused by ultra rich substrate. Might try getting a tiger lily this time to offset the imbalance
Lol i remember you, you poped up on my shorts i was the guy that needed tie cleaning advice after s fundraising avent that i didnt know i was nominated for until I got there 😂 i was gunged in a shirt n tie and you gave me cleaning advice but the shirt n tie went in garbage in end was green n slimey 😂
Thanks for the video. I'm raising Ghost/glass/grass (different names, same species) Shrimp and thinking about Guppy Grass for them. I am hoping "guppy grass" is my solution for water snails and glass shrimp in a glass bottom aquarium. I also have wild caught Ramshorn Snails, Bladder Snails, Copepods, Detritus Worms, and some store-cultivated Duckweed + Water Sprite (I think is what it is). Apparently the shrimp and/or snails MIGHT nibble on guppy grass, which would be great, but the purpose is to provide some place for the shrimp to feel comfortable releasing the babies. I know it isn't the best thing for that purpose, but I want something free and edible, if possible and something that will grow on the bottom. Also, I want some "padding" of some kind at the bottom, so that I can put the big Ramshorn snails in a glass aquarium. All snails species I've raised (land and water) seem to intentionally climb up things, then fall down and just hope for the best. Unfortunately, this means land snails can't have rocks or glass or other hard things to fall on, because they can break their shell and die. I also do not want to have gravel or sand or anything else on the bottom, so that I can siphon clean the bottom without it being a huge chore. I currently use plastic containers, and the plastic works great, but the size and shape of my containers give me other difficulties. I tried asking on a discord server and got ignored. If you have a personal suggestion(s), let me know. I'm really going for the least effort, most prolific, most invasive type stuff, that tolerates the worst conditions. I admire species that are super prolific like this, as long as they aren't things like fire ants, mosquitos, etc. I suppose if it is one i would have to buy, maybe I can reach out to people and see if I can get a piece for free. I may also go see what I can get with a net from the local ponds. I really want to keep as many plants and animals as I can, from the wild (either native or established invasive), rather than non-native species. I would rather have everything be wild, but wild aquatic creatures are the primary focus and I would be okay with some non-wild plants, if they really fit the need.
That's some nice looking plant's you have there I'm working on getting what I have going in a 75 gal aquarium so when they get big enough I can transfer the cuttings from them to a 110 gal stock tank to start growing in it to sell.
Thank you so much! I am super tired & annoyed with cleaning plastic flowers. My tank is already set with blue gravel and definitely not removing them adding substrate. Live plants add so much beauty into aquariums
Very useful information, neatly described, clean and apt video. Only suggestion - If you can speak slowly with pause, people will get more time to actually feel the beauty of your content. Thanks.
Yea goldfish will eat plant's more than the food so I don't put any plant's in their stock tank unless I can make a way to divide the tank for them, I've tried that & that didn't even work so that's out.
I had success with cryptocoryne in my first tank just in plain gravel it took a while to settle in but after a 3 months it doubled in size and density.
Ok got my new starters tank only 30 litre for a beeta. Now cycling told for 2 weeks? How do i do water tests and how do i make it right??????? Im confused man!
Get a master water test kit, it comes with instructions on how to test for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, etc. there’s a lot of good videos on TH-cam that’ll give you all the information you need. When I was new to the hobby it took one single video explaining the nitrogen cycle for me to finally understand and get my first tank going. Educate yourself, and your fish will thrive.
Did you say anubius can be buried in substrate? Didnt quite catch what you said. Otherwise very helpful im getting a tank soon just getting as much info as i can
I said anubias can’t be buried. If you do, their rhizomes will rot, which basically means the plant dies. Anyways, good luck with setting up your tank! :)
@@Aquafinity cheers mate, never was good as sience🙄 ph, amonia, nitrate ,nitrates confusing me. What i understand its the nitrstes that kill fish? Most liquid ferts should be fine, like seachem flourish and easy green.

I know it’s been awhile but do you just drop the tiger Lilly bulb in and let it do its thing, or do you need to attach it to something?
You could directly drop it in or better yet, bury a small portion of the bottom bulb into the substrate to give it a head start.
