The stories are cute and understandable with important language that is easy for the listener to recognize and learn. It makes learning Japanese so fun and it's really motivating when you understand. I loved the cultural notes in this one because Japanese culture is part of what interests me so much about learning the language. I recommend Renshuu a lot more than Duolingo, as it doesn't make you put the same exact phrases 500 times before learning something new. Renshuu is based on a SRS and even has courses for grammar everything for free

I'm a little confused though, I've always thought that sumimasen is an equivalent to the English "excuse me", so a bit more casual, used in a lot of different situations, when you are not actually asking for forgiveness. And gomennasai is an equivalent to the English "I'm sorry", so a bit more apologetic, when you've done something bad/offended someone. So, let's say, if I'm asking for directions, i'd say sumimasen, and if I bumped into someone and they dropped their phone and broke it I would be saying gomennasai. Is that wrong? You actually can't say gomennasai to strangers? I just googles it and different articles say different things 😩
